Who Is Junko Junsui? - Inside A Mind

- The topics I cover in my videos have a fine line between reality and fiction, but no matter how real they may feel. There's always just something that gives it away. Junko Junsui however, went out of it's way to create a world so close to our reality it even had some of it's most hardcore fans sceptical on whether or not what they were playing was actually real. It all began, with a simple Facebook friend request.
Junko Junsui took place in 2009 and I'm going to explore the world the two creators built and how they created a gigantic audience online by using Facebook as a way to promote it. This is something you could never do again as Facebook has changed dramatically over the years. All the more reason to admire this particular point in history.

My biology class just talked about chromosome deficiencies, so I knew this was fake when they said that three X chromosomes would mean that they have improved brain functions, as it actually opposite. Women with three x chromosomes are most of the time mentally impaired with learning deficiencies

There's aggressive menwritingwomen syndrome, so not surprised they missed the mark by making being intersex spooky too.
Sadly everything connected to genetics or non-trivial biology in general gets used a plot device to explain all kind of bs. The assumption is that no one understands it and so it makes for a great trope. All it does though it to turn off people with scientific understanding and mislead those without it.
Hopefully we will be able to have some smart fiction in the future.

On a related scientific aside, Trisomy 47, or having three X chromosomes, is an actual condition women can have. It occurs in approximately 1 in every 1,000 female births.
The condition doesn't do the stuff in the ARG, usually just making the woman abnormally tall, but it can also cause some deformities such as learning difficulties, kidney problems, seizures, and decreased muscle tone. There's no evidence that Trisomy 47 is hereditary.
Women can also have one X chromosome (Turner Syndrome), while men can have two X chromosomes (Klinefelter Syndrome) or two Y chromosomes (Jacob's Syndrome), and some people with an XY genotype can have a female phenotype (Swyer Syndrome) while people with an XX genotype can have a male phenotype (De la Chapelle Syndrome) .

Umm...just for the elucidation of everyone here, Triple-X Syndrome is a real thing. It definitely is not associated with superhuman ability, though the effects are not always so severe as to impede daily life. This whole supposed mechanism behind the Junsui’s “evolution” should have been a tip-off from the start that it wasn’t a real game; if we already have people in the world with 3 X chromosomes, and they don’t have some secret history or superpowers, why would these purported super-girls be any different?

patricia G Just like Trisomy 21 (better known as Down Syndrome), certain genetic abnormalities can cause a triple-copy of sex chromosomes. Triple-X is basically where some or all of a person’s cells contain 3 X chromosomes. If 2 X chromosomes makes someone biologically female, and codes for things like estrogen production and the absence of a transition from ovaries into testes in the developing fetus, then Triple-X basically ramps up a lot of those feminine characteristics, though not usually in extreme ways. Most people with Triple-X are merely taller than average, though other minor physical differences do occasionally occur.
EDIT: My recollection of a difference in fertility was incorrect. Infertility is common in other sex chromosome abnormalities, but in Triple-X fertility is unaffected. This would stand to reason, since they don’t lack anything that a normal female individual does in terms of reproduction, nor do they possess the anti-female sex-chromosome-encoded traits, as someone with XYY or XXY abnormalities would.

"Three X chromosomes" made me laugh out loud. Triple X syndrome doesn't result in "beauty" or "accelerated learning"; they're mostly the same as people with XX chromosomes, except a bit taller and with a higher risk of some health complications and learning disabilities.

Oh my gosh! I just remembered I got a friend request from a Junko Junsui back around the original time! I deleted it and thought nothing of it, thought the name stuck in the back of my mind as odd. I was in high school at the time and didn’t want to friend anyone I didn’t go to school with. So weird! Glad to know what it was all about. Thanks for another great video!

A month ago I watched Atrocity's Guide video on the controversy surrounding Junko Junsui and on there, it was stated that the doxxing, the naming after a real terrorist group, the naming of a real government agency, along with the watch list was real. That's on me. I trusted that someone else did their research and now I see that I was incorrect to do that. Looking it up now, it checks out to be true (what's said in this video, I mean). I called the creators negligent and irresponsible in that previous comment and, seeing as that isn't true, I sincerely apologize.

I love hearing about all these ARGs that I missed out on, or new ones I haven't seen yet. It's really amazing how much work people put into making these games believable.
