I remember my dad had to leave during the wait to get my brother from some event thinking he was going to miss the cool part, and when he came back it was still a while before the cool thing even happened. Absolutely amazing.
still hoping bungie does another 'true' live event like this minus the 2 hour waiting period. imo these type of events tend to be the most memorable experiences in games that do them well, and when they are done well they're probably some of my favorite moments in gaming period :') thank you for preserving this one in 4K :)
A dev said that end-of-season missions like Last City Override or the exorcism are Destiny’s unique versions of live events, but like... no, they’re not. They’re end-of-season missions. Bring back actual cool events.
This event was simultaneously so cool and so disappointing. The whole it falling and blowing up was amazing. However, it took way too long to get to that bit and there was never a real lore implication that came from it. It would have been so much cooler if a chunk had flown off and hit the traveller, or better yet the entire ship collides with the old tower taking out the entire wall section, this would then lead to a 6 player activity of defending the last city from the fallen just outside the wall.
I was a bit disappointed, because something THIS massive impacting THIS close to the city should still be absolutely devastating. That's still more than the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs. And for some reason it made no real dent in the planet, let alone just BE DONE after a shockwave like that. There absolutely should've been a fireball with that kind of blast / crash
Honestly, I would've liked it to just come crashing down and take our tower out, forcing us to go back to the old one; could you imagine how neat it'd be if we watched the rebuilding of the tower from the inside?
@@Jukantos This force would be no where near as powerful as the meteor. That ship is free-falling from the sky. The meteor was estimated to be travelling 30 kilometers/sec, (150 times faster than jet liners. about 4 times faster than the ISS).
@@queueeeee9000 Well the Psions did activate the engines of the Almighty enough to steer it onto the collision course, but that meteor was also significantly lighter than the Almighty. We are talking about a ship large enough to scale up to a good few percentages of our SUN. It might literally be a celestial body competing with our moon just in sheer size! Not to mention, despite Rasputins bombardment it's still made out of whatever Warship alloys the Cabal deploy, not just a rock. Even if you dropped something that big and heavy from orbit as "kinetic bombardment", the devastating impact would unleash force far exceeding most human nuclear capabilities. And for us it lands a few miles outside the city and we're fine? :D
As much as I really loved this event I'm sad bungie didn't go further with it and let us get a strike or something to do at the crash site or a defend the last city thing from broken parts of the wall, just doesn't feel like there's alot of weight to what happens in the world due to it
The almighty had some great missions during the red war campaign and I really wanted to return to explore it. 😊It would make a great strike, dungeon, raid, or patrol zone setting with tons of relics and potential reasons to explore yet its basically been forgotten about at this point.
would've been really funny if anyone too close to the crash was immediately evaporated and had to be rezzed. lore-wise, though, i think it would have been super fuckin cool if there were a bunch of Titan NPCs basically just working together to put a giant ward of dawn around the entire Tower.
i remember standing there for HOURS, being hyped when the shockwave hit us back 2 meters, almost crying. Now my partner shows me fucking interactive fortnite season ending events. We got this, 8 year olds got fkin king kong-godzilla events. Bungo....
Did bungie not realise how actally huge they made this thing during the red war? The almighty was supposed to be 3500km long. For reference, thats the distance from manhattan to mexico city in a straight line. If this actually crashed on the planet, it would be an extinction level event.
Yeah it’s big, but I imagine the damage from rasputins attack, the reactor detonation, and atmospheric re-entry likely disintegrated a massive amount of its mass, maybe leaving a bare bones frame thats on fire behind, the reactor cooking should have snapped it in half going by how bright the explosion was.
Looking back at this, it’s one of the few times we actually had an in game thing happen. Other than the traveler making itself whole again. They really should have had more in game showings than just cutscenes. Kind of annoying that most of the time we are just a side character than actually being part of the story in Destiny. Sure we are there to witness all of it but we aren’t actually appreciated for it all even though we usually put in all the effort.
they stopped doing these live events because of a lot of people missing them. Bungie wants everyone to witness everything happening, so they switched to cutscenes that start whenever you can watch
I didn't even know that was happening when I got on Destiny 2 after not playing for a while. I remember heading for the Tower and seeing everyone around Zavala. I looked up to see the Almighty in the sky. So I went on youtube to see what was going on and found out about the event that was happening that day. I had completely skipped that season but got on the right day for it to play it...lucky me.
@dragonrabbit7410 don't get me wrong, bungies sky box designs are always top tier, but as someone who was at the live event, standing in the tower for over 2 hours before anything even started to change wasn't great, especially since we were told the time the event would start and still waited that long
I know this a couple years belated, but whatever happened to the wreck in lore? That was a literal celestial body’s worth of valuable salvage, and the hulk is massive enough to be a destination in itself. Was there ever any follow up to the almighty from here?
Jesus Christ that is such a good point. I know it was practically nuked out the sky but you can't tell me that at least a few cabal survived using there protective drop pods? Shit Caital was just at the tower last week! There is no way she WOULDN'T want to salvage the technology for her already shrinking army.
I know this is a year belated, but afaik its pretty much worthless to the city as its mainly just cabal tech which we can get in troves from all the red legion bases from red war. It is used in the BL lore book about the dark future that Elsie came from, wherein they use the remnants of data from Ghaul's traveller trap to bring the traveller back to stand up against Eris Morn (who ig is a stand-in for the witness in this dark future? maybe we never alert the pyramid fleet who knows)
