Super helpful! I struggled with the auto focus settings for the last year, because I never realized that the spot AF function only works on that one button. I had been trying to do it with the star button and it never worked properly. Also, I just set a third button to 1/250 @2.8 auto ISO and this works brilliantly! This video just changed my life!
Thank you for #2 I had been using the toggle modes on the MFn button but sometimes that gets knocked and you end up with the wrong settings. This works exactly how I want it so I can set the MFn2 button to this now and it solves that problem!
Thanks, did not know about recall, helps from when I'm going from outside to in. I shoot M with auto iso and I have to crank up the shutter outside, then go inside and I get too high iso because I forgot to reduce my shutter speed. I wish M with auto iso had an override when going outside with a 160th. My exposure gets blown out and have to crank up to 1000th.
Number 4 also works for other buttons, not just back AF button! I set a custom eye tracking mode to the * button, right beside back AF button! :-) Otherwise I use my camera in traditional focusing mode. Also I set One Shot - Servo change to MFn2 in the front. I wish 1 or 2 more programmable button, but even like this R3 is a beast! :-)
Great content as I just purchased a R3 adjusting the settings yesterday #6 is a must under photo orange camera #2 Sam2 expo. for new aperture! My setting “ISO” game changer!!
You can set the rate button to do this, I import to Photo Mechanic at sports events. When live at pitch side I use the rate button to tag images then when I put the card in my laptop it only imports tagged images. In the playback menu page 4 there is an option to set the rate/(microphone icon) button function set it to lock/(microphone icon) and when you press rate instead of setting a star rating it "protects" the frame which is what Photo Mechanic uses for import.
#4 is exactly how I have things configured for sports, like a DSLR mode and similar with how the my 1dx's worked. I don't shoot much video so I reprogrammed the movie button to "drive mode" so I can easily switch between fps which is helpful for sports, I don't always need 30fps.
It's funny you could have at least points #1, 2 and 5 to some extent even in DSLRs with the help of *Magic Lantern* (with certain cameras, including 5D\5DII\5DIII, 7D and 70D, the full list is on ML website) over a decade ago... 1) ML has been showing focal length in LiveView (obviously not in OVF) since 2008... 😊 BTW R-cameras only show FL with RF lenses (EF\EF-S and, I assume, third parties for DSLRs are not supported). 2) With ML you can have two *ExpoPresets* , which are switched between one another with an assigned button too. Handy feature. 5) *Rack Focus* and *Focus Stacking* also present in ML. Of course, for shooting only. You need to stitch the result elsewhere.
focus bracketing just blew my mind
I wish the R5 had the lens focal length feature, I could not find it in the menu system ,it is enabled on the R7 !
Tremendous. I've been shooting an R3 for almost a year now, and you definitely gave me some new tricks to try out ASAP. Thanks, Josh!!

Great material, thanks.
Great features, many thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it!
You can actually set the custom AF to the AF on / * and the focus point button on the back... for wildlife I have them all set differently
Yeah good stuff! Thank you!
Can you do video with the 50 1.8 rf?
Its not autofocusing with the r3
Hello as a new R3 user - a so interesting video - thanks a lot

canon R8 also display the milimeter length
Great videobagain you’re the reason I purchased the r3 and the 28-70 :)
My apologies to your bank account but that's SUCH a good combo

Sam2 expo. for new aperture! My setting “ISO” game changer!!
YES - didn't think of mentioning that one but that's such a handy feature Canon offers!
Excellent video 😊
Is there a way to mark what photos you want to import on the camera? My A7Riv had this, but I can't for the life of me find it on my R3
I haven't seen that feature on Canon, that'd be really convenient to have!

Does anyone know why when I connect to a external monitor it doesn’t display the focal point?

oh nice! the AF-ON customization is seriously so convenient
