THANK YOU!!! I’ve had my R3 for a few months now and this is literally the best setup review I have seen on this camera from a video perspective. There’s not a lot of people using this camera so it’s always cool to find someone who has it and gives great advice!
So glad I could help - really wanted to create a comprehensive walkthrough of all the video features exactly because there didn't seem to be a lot of good resources for people on this subject!
Any suggestions for managing B/O & M/G white balance at events with varied lighting environments? How do you deal with manual white balance in video mode? Using the Kelvin adjustment only manages the blue / orange shift but does nothing for the green magenta. Yes, I can info in to M/G but the whole process is tedious and not practical for events with multiple lighting situations.
Great video champ. One suggestion I have found to be useful, in the last part when you're talking about changing between C1-C3 using DOF button as a Mode button, instead try using the M-Fn button (set to 'C') which instantly toggles between each of the custom shooting modes (so one press goes from C1-C2, press again to go from C2-C3, and press once more C3-C1), instead of pressing once to go into mode and then having to scroll to you're preferred setting. Of course you'll have to repurpose your current M-Fn (one of them) to the DOF button and this can only be done on the M-Fn button at the moment. I also use this setting for C1-C3 in photos. Instantly change between my C1-C3 photo settings with one press.
Thanks for watching and for the great suggestion! I’ll definitely have to play around with that - that would definitely be a faster way to change between those custom modes!
@@joshrexford solid work, how do you get the video imported into LIGHT room , says it does not recognize the video compression on my R3 4K .mp4 ?, thanks Josh
This is awesome I am considering buying a new canon R3, but I have been watching another youtuber for the canon R6 mark II and so my mind is still thinking.
Very welcome! You can definitely display the histogram during recording. Do you mean 4k 120fps without cropping the sensor or with cropping? Either way I believe the answer is yes...there's a specific crop mode you CAN enable (but don't have to) and I believe the 4K 120fps is 100% sensor coverage, it MAY have a tiny, tiny crop but not more than 1-2% or so if it is...I've never noticed it!
@@joshrexford haven't found a way to display the histogarm during recording. Video using this camera is relatively new to me (I use Nikon z9 for most of my video).
Hey Josh, Quick question? My Modes seem to be greyed out. Modes C1m works, but Modes C2m-C3m are greyed out and I can't access them. I have tried several times to register them but nothing works....Any suggestions? Thanks Robert
Ho Josh, I'm a Sony user but I'm still thinking about switching to Canon because I miss the image from Canon all the time. Please tell me is it possible to upload your solder to preview in R3? or is there any Assist to see a more contrasting picture on the screen while recording clog3? I have a request for you, would you be able to share some 4K samples from your R3 with me? preferably something 50p to compare the images with my FX3 and how my computer will handle Canon files. I would be very grateful because no one in my area has an R3 and I don't even have anyone to turn to for help.
We just moved from the Sony a7iii to the Canon R3 and I’ve been very happy with the colors, 4k60p, and stabilization. No regrets. We even bought a second R3.
I believe the R3 uses the settings in video Custom 3 (C3) when you hit record in photo mode. So put your preferred video settings there and enable that “remember settings” thing he talked about.
For the life of me I can't seem to find the answer to this 🤦🏼♂️ anyone else here know this answer?? I feel like the NON clog3 profile isn't 10 bit, but I can't confirm that.
can you help me out?! im trying to save settings to custom shootings mode and it won't let me set anything to mode 2 or 3! only saves mode 1. also my other modes aren't grayed out like yours are in the video? only my CSM2 and CSM3 are grayed out
Hmm...trying to think what might cause this. In the Custom Functions Menu (orange menu), on tab 2, under "restrict shooting modes" do you have "C1, C2, C3" disabled? If that's the case, you won't be able to write to any of those. Make sure those are enabled and you should be good!

It might be redundant but I'd like a video on Autofocus in video mode etc, and your settings of when and where you use each and why.

Glad it’s helpful! Would love to hear what you end up deciding…the R3 is an insanely awesome camera but the R6 II looks incredible as well 🙌🏼
What program do you use to edit and process the Canon R3 video? Thank you!
My fav camera, have the r5 and that catches dust now
The r5 is a beast but there’s something about the r3…😍
What are your favourite points about it when compared to the R5?
all I 120 fps at 4k is available only on the cf express not sd card right? Thats the message i'm getting.
Can you please make a video to show how you have your photography settings setup please?
Would be happy to do that. Photography settings specifically for the R3?
Thanks for sharing! Can you display histogram and magnifying the image during recording ? Can you get 4K 120 fps cropping the sensor ?

Histogram will not display during recording.

Do you have those custom modes enabled in the “restrict shooting modes” submenu in the custom functions page? That could explain it!
@@joshrexford Hey Josh, that worked! Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Your videos are amazing..

How do you set video settings when the camera is set for photo? (on the photo side, then press record)
I believe the R3 uses the settings in video Custom 3 (C3) when you hit record in photo mode. So put your preferred video settings there and enable that “remember settings” thing he talked about.
Can you still get 10 bit 422 if you shoot in a Neutral profile instead of clog3?

This is not what the menu on mine looks like. Any ideas why I’m seeing something different?
I’d check to make sure your firmware is updated! As of February 7, 2024 the R3 is on firmware 1.6
Does the r3 have a crop in video mode?
It doesn't! Full-sensor readout!
