  • Can this cheap mini sewing machine sew through 8 layers of denim? It has 12 stitches, button hole foot, and can backstitch. Is it worth $50? Here are my first impressions on this little sewing machine.

    I need a sewing machine that is not too heavy because I am disabled. In the last few years, I've lost a lot of strength (I have Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy) so my standard-sized sewing machines have become near impossible for me to carry from the closet to the table, etc. I have a lot of experience sewing, and so am not in need of a "beginner" sewing machine, but for light-duty sewing - I think this could work for me. I clicked the link and saw that there are quite a few of these same models being sold by different sellers under different brand names - each one with sometimes drastic differences in feedback ratings. This one has only one review and it's one star (it says they think they got a defective one). But your review here makes me feel like it would be worth trying - and I worry about risking the purchase of any of the others. I appreciate this review and going thru what this machine is and is not capable of - thanks!

    I bought my sewing machine on the goodwill website, paid 20$ for the actual machine and 30$ for the delivery (because it's very heavy), but honestly i'm so happy i went with a good proper used machine rather than try to buy a new one. the one i got is a old nelco machine, it's made all out of metal, it's in really good condition other than needing a clean and stuff, and i've been learning how to sew on it with so much pleasure! love it so much, it's made in japan and has all the things i need! definitely an affordable option for someone who wants a heavier duty machine

    I've been looking through so many videos about this machine and yours finally gave me some answers. I was pretty frustrated with the fact that only the front part of the seam looks good and I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. Because I've tried every tension number on that wheel and it still looked off.
    At least now I know that I'm not doing anything wrong and it's just the machine... Which kind of sucks. Because I'm usually sewing on lighter material, not jeans. And it makes things much more complicated because I have to sew them with the nice looking stitch up...
    If you have a tip for that, I'd love to hear it.

    Thank you for this review! It's so nice to find people taking a serious look at these mini machines, and giving them a genuine test and review.
    I've been considering the possibility of looking into something like this (I've seen little mini sewing machines at my local 99-Cent&More store, and got curious), because I'm in a tiny flat with not much room to keep a sewing machine, but my hand-stitching is so terrible I actively avoid even supposedly simple things like hemming. I think this might be just the right size for someone in my circumstances, doing the basic things I'd need it to do.

      Girl! No! You need to start at a thrift store! $20 make sure it has the machine( duhh) a foot pedal , a power cord, the bobbin has a cover plate, and inside has the thing you put the bobbin into before you put it in the machine, make sure the machine is holding a needle or has a spot for it, and has a presser foot. Don’t waste your money on that tiny thing. I lost muy baby lock I scored on Craig’s list and wanted another machine, and my grandma bought me an old banger and clanker( sounds like an old steam train) from the thrift store. At first I thought “ This will do until I can buy a newer nicer machine” and then I took in an old pair of jeans that were too big and realized; it blasted threw close to 11 layers of denim like a hot knife threw butter. My old $350 baby lock would loose steam on 5 layers and tangle up the bobbin thread. I’m telling you some old lady who made quilts and knew her shit gets to old to sew every day and her machine ends up at the thrift store. That is the machine you want. And any problem you have UA-cam has a video tutorial for.

    Does it require metal bobbin or will plastic work? Isnt there a magnetic disc to provide bottom thread tension?
    ty 4 an entertaining and informative video :)
    I just received my supercheap machine and spent 3 days struggling to adjust the catch hook. Instructions manual could be better. After countless broken thread, and 3 broken needles, I finally grabbed a pair of pliers & carefully bent the hook outward ever so slightly until it barely contacted the needle on its pass. Now I'm stitching like it's a $100. machine.

    I used to have a sewing machine like that though i bought it for around $24 equivalent in my countrys currency. I sold it after 2 months of using it because i decided to upgrade to a brother sewing machine since i felt it has way more features than that model also its more sturdy because my sewing machine like that has thread jams a lot also for me its not that strong since my needle broke a lot

    wait- im new to sewing and i haven't gotton a machine yet, im trying to way my options, so tread lightly if i get this wrong but,, ok, this machine can't really do buttons but if someone wanted a really tight zigzag stich, couldnt they just use the button zigzag one?

      Please note the incorrect pressure foot was used and most likely affected the final outcome of the buttonhole.

    Hi! I've wanted to make my own clothes and scrunchies for a long time now and I'm looking for an affordable sewing machine. I'm only 16 and very inexperienced, so I don't need a fancy one...just something for beginners. Your videos have been soooo helpful but I'm still super confused about what to get. I can't afford the best sewing machines but the cheaper ones always seem to have a problem. This one looks good tho...can I make clothes with this sewing machine?

    • @BlueprintDIY
      @BlueprintDIY  2 роки тому +1

      You can make clothes with this, but I’ve heard that they don’t last a long time. If that bothers you, then definitely think about buying a better brand used one from Facebook marketplace or a second hand shop.

    This does buttonholes the same way as my vintage Elna, 4 steps. I actually like that process because I feel like it gives me more control. But mine has the zigzag way tighter like a satin stitch almost. I do feel like this looks more versatile than the other mini 'toy' machines you have tested and just the sound it makes when running sounds more "solid" if that makes sense? Like the motor is more powerful?

    I bought this exact same sewing machine in 2020 and i watched this video in 2020......... Its 2022 I'm just now actually using it I know how to sew sleeves back on and the shirt together but im finding it hard to lettuce hem. I also feel so scared to cut something up even though its old. I've been practicing with the same shirt lol. I think i'm discouraging myself because i wish i would've invested in a better sewing machine. But because im a beginner i choose this one. Yesterday was my first time actually sewing.

    I’d think a used old machine would be a better investment for the money. Ask your relatives if they know anyone with an old machine they’re not using or search FB market. I see them all the time for $50 or less. Those old workhorses will run forever.

    Awesome, question though the button holes how do you open them without cutting through the stitches?
    Also I found a Singer Fashion Mate 533 yea an oldie but goodie... For less than $8 at Goodwill. I tried it and it ran so did I, with it to the cashier lol. I've used this monster, for couple weeks now but want the parts feet and such that can be used with it I'm bored lol I found an old singer cabinet for $5 that I managed to get it to fit into and glad because when I'd go full sew it would slide across my table towards me (the legs are worn so the screws are showing making it slide) I haven't sewn really since highschool and I'm 59 so it's all new to me again.
    I'm now looking to find a different machine that'll do more but this is also heavy duty so maybe it can do more too 🤔

    I was so impressed with your video & ordered this little sewing machine ___ just got it today ___ but got an unpleasant surprise ! The " Foot Pedal " does NOT WORK :'( Now I'm forced to use the power switch only, but it sews so fast ( even on Low ), to turn the corner on the fabric while sewing ___ so I have to HURRY up & switch it to " Off " ___ this makes sewing hard for me :'( I have been trying to search for the manufacturer on google ___ but google just keeps pulling up Amazon instead. I don't want to go through the whole ordeal to send the sewing machine back to Amazon, I just want the " Foot Pedal " to be replace. Was wondering if you could help me find out where can I get a replacement for the " Foot Pedal " only ?

    • @BlueprintDIY
      @BlueprintDIY  2 роки тому +2

      What fabric are you trying to sew? Try a different fabric and see if it works. If so, you’ll need to switch to a needle to go through that fabric. The needle may just be bent, in which case you’ll just need to change the needle.
