A7X and Metallica respect each other and Avenged tries to get on tour with them every chance they get. Metallica are legends and masters of craft, have to respect them

Avenged Sevenfold is an extremely talented band that doesn't always get the recognition they deserve when being mentioned as musical pioneers. They can play tons of different styles and Shadows has an insane vocal range, he must have worked hard to get to where he is now, because he's still able to scream, while also being an extremely melodic singer.

The whole band were massive massive pantera fans growing up and in their early days. Getting to play with Vinnie was prob a dream come true. Their song betrayed is actually about dimebag too, great track as well .

Amazing job by Shadows, he managed to achieve the rage of the original studio recording, imitating Anselmo's voice, while keeping a flavour of his style. It can be especially heard on the higher notes (G4 and above). Awesome performance. I only hope that his technique is better than Phil's , cause he is in the top three best rock/metal singers of our times (alongside Corey from Slipknot and David from Distubed) and I really do hope he won't destroy his voice as fast as Phil did.
Unfortunately his singing technique has taken its toll. Years of constantly belting notes higher than C5 is just not feasible for a baritone, and his voice diminishes further each year. His tone has grown incredibly thin and heady, some of which he claims is intentional but it’s clearly just vocal damage.
Can't say I'm a big fan of A7x, nor do I think this has quite the umph (to be fair, who really could) of the original but my hats off to them... they did the song justice and know how to drop huge respect to one of the all time great bands. hella job guys.

I'll never understand people saying that "All covers are shit because they don't match the awesomeness of the original". Yeah, so? They're not supposed to match the original but to a personal spin of another artist to an already existing song. Take for example any of Disturbed's covers or Motörheads cover of Sympathy for the devil. And covers help spread awareness for other bands. I wouldn't even know what Pantera is if it wasn't for A7X's cover of Walk and that could be said for any number of bands. It's not just Phil nowadays... take a look at Moscow 91 for example, he might have been a better front man with a lot more energy, but he was constantly going out of breath, not hitting highs etc, while Matt just nails everything. Speaking PURELY IN A TECHNICAL SENSE, there's no denying Matt is more skilled.

Unfortunately his singing technique has taken its toll. Years of constantly belting notes higher than C5 is just not feasible for a baritone, and his voice diminishes further each year. His tone has grown incredibly thin and heady, some of which he claims is intentional but it’s clearly just vocal damage.
And at the end of the performance they give all credits to Vinnie Paul, how awesome!

Can't say I'm a big fan of A7x, nor do I think this has quite the umph (to be fair, who really could) of the original but my hats off to them... they did the song justice and know how to drop huge respect to one of the all time great bands. hella job guys.
most people dont realize that the guy is a beast. he uses one of the most complicated gglottal compresison techniques and can still hit the clean notes AND scream... almost no one can do that

I'll never understand people saying that "All covers are shit because they don't match the awesomeness of the original". Yeah, so? They're not supposed to match the original but to a personal spin of another artist to an already existing song. Take for example any of Disturbed's covers or Motörheads cover of Sympathy for the devil. And covers help spread awareness for other bands. I wouldn't even know what Pantera is if it wasn't for A7X's cover of Walk and that could be said for any number of bands. All you elitists need to get off your high horses when it comes to song covers, especially when talking metal.
well said.. and when you listened to far beyond driven or vulgar display all the way through you probably had the same reaction I did, where has this been all my life? kinda the same reaction I am having with avenged.. really didn't give it a chance early on now revisiting the bands work I really appreciate it.

Gonna get so much shit for saying this but Matt is a more skilled singer than Phil. It's not just Phil nowadays... take a look at Moscow 91 for example, he might have been a better front man with a lot more energy, but he was constantly going out of breath, not hitting highs etc, while Matt just nails everything. Speaking PURELY IN A TECHNICAL SENSE, there's no denying Matt is more skilled.

beefchainsaw That's not an excuse, that's just Phil Anselmo doing a bad job at staying in shape to perform as good as possible. Mad respect to metal front men who take their jobs seriously enough to lead a healthy lifestyle in order to perform optimally. That being said, as I mentioned, I still think Pantera as a band were a thousand times cooler on stage, putting on a much better show overall.
