    I enjoy the fresh water content. I enjoy fishing for many different species and I enjoy watching others do the same. I'm not a "purist" or a snob when it comes to fishing. I'll fish for bluegill on a ultra light or catfish and stripers on a heavy bait caster. I'll fish with bait or lures. Its all fun IMO. Looking forward to the next one!

    They spawn naturally in that lake. Later in the year, you can walk the creeks that feed that lake and spot them in the creeks in full spawning color. Some years are better than others of course

    I love spending long days on the water in my boat, but I was tired of having to constantly recharge batteries. Switching to LiTime lithium batteries has given me the peace of mind he needs to enjoy time on the water.

    At the start of your video I was left ??? in YOUR GARAGE. Maybe the only home/garage NOT CLUTTERED overwhelmingly with fishing "stuff (like mine) is a last day/week one signed for a new "abode". Great video, fishing, battery tutor, scenery, colors, info, gear and some nice fish catches. I believe kokanee rods are traditionally long and very flimsy for their soft mouths. I know there is a super KOK fisher in the Truckee area that has "KOK" fishing down pat, using slightly stiff rod s but with very light drags. Very good Kokanee fishing is available in that area at both Donner and Stampede Lakes. They use "fish finders" to located fish/depths, set their depths and cruise back and back through them. It would be interesting to learn how many on water hours you use/spend on your videos to fish/catch fish. Mainly, so I can value my effort vs. success. Many times I think I should just enjoy fishing and not worry about the catching.

    Freshwater content is awesome.
    Lots of Kokanee vets I know OBCESS over speed. Sometimes those little differences of even a tenth of a MPH can make all the difference.

    Hey bro, only because i am a fan i am going to tell you that the secret to catching a lot more kokanee is to use the scent kokanee special on your shoepeg corn ;)

  • @danlewis6157
    @danlewis6157 Рік тому +1

    I’m tellin ya man, try this: line, swivel, 3 to 5 blade spinner string (Dave Davis), rubber snubber (surgical tubing with line coiled inside as a shock absorber), a couple feet of leader, and a lure like a frog pattern Needle Fish or mini Daredevil. You will loose almost no fish, and catch lots!

    • @foreyes4it
      @foreyes4it Рік тому +1

      You must be an old veteran of many years of kokanee fishing. Lake trolls (or should I call them pop gear) with a snubber have been phased out in popularity by dodgers and light action rods . I remember starting out Kokanee fishing with lead core line spooled on a Penn 209 level wind , ford fenders, snubber and an L-J Kokanee King or similar spoon tipped with plain unscented shoe peg corn since Pro-Cure & other companies hadn't started making scents available. We pulled this heavy gear with our striper rods. Many a time we'd detect a hit and then spend 15 min's reeling in 100 yds plus of line only to find the fish was not hooked... making tight turns and circles was not practical with that much line out and the maximum trolling depth that we could reach was probably 50-60 feet. Depth readings were obtained by a Lowrance flasher unit (a spinning disc with a fluorescent bulb that blinked at the measured depth. Still used by some ice fishing guys) OH how times have changed ....

      Kokanee....mostly about 1.0-1.3Mph...your mileage may vary...but I usually go to 1.2Mph to start with. Depth? More about time of year and where your sonar says they are. Can certainly guess and still do ok as long as you move your depths til you find fish.

    Kokanee is the best breakfast ever. Couple runny yolk eggs, fried potatoes (polenta is also amazing), and a pan fried Kok. MMMMMM.
    Lots of butter...screw healthy, we want CALORIES and FAT!! lol

    Does anyone know why the kokanee only last 1-2 yrs? Is it predation, or just that they die because they can't migrate?
    Honestly, they're so small and only a limit of 5, doesn't seem worth it (unless I didn't have to travel to get to the lakes). I saw that Berryessa had stocked salmon that were larger, even if they are a more mild flavor.

      @thereason3763 Рік тому +3

      Kokanee And Kings are planted as fingerlings in certain lakes. They are only about 4-5 inches long when they're planted. Two years later they are of catchable size. At that point, they're considered 3rd year fish. They usually die in their 3rd or 4th year. In the fall.

    Try shorter set back. 10-15 ft on the bottom and only 5-8 ft on the top. also maybe space 12-15 ft apart from top to bottom. Also a shuttle hawk makes it easier when lowering your top rod down.

    • @rustyhookeroutdoors8705
      @rustyhookeroutdoors8705 Рік тому

      Shuttle hawks don't work well if you're running braid on the downrigger fyi or at least for me they don't.

    • @REELTRU01
      @REELTRU01 Рік тому

      @rustyhookeroutdoors8705 Braid isn't good to run with kokanee. They have soft mouths and you lose more. That stretch from mono helps. But I've used them with braid and works good. You might just need different releases

    • @rustyhookeroutdoors8705
      @rustyhookeroutdoors8705 Рік тому

      @@REELTRU01 I was talking that shuttle hawks don't work well if you have braided downrigger line. The braid actually cut grooves into my shuttle hawks which then frayed my downrigger line. Just my opinion. Loved the shuttle hawks when I ran SS cable tho but hated the whining for the cable.

You might want to check the rules where your fishing before going out. Not being a smart ass id just hate to see a fun day of fishing ruined with a nasty ticket. I've seen it happen many times.
