Well that was one epic day in the rain. I wasn't scared but as the tour leader responsible for the 'ducklings' I was beginning to get a little bit worried about the flooding flowing fast across some of the roads. But, as you say, it's all about the adventure! Memories are definitely made of stuff like that. :-) Good job at the back V.

Got a bit dizzy on that one, went through canterbury, then porters pass then west coast then back though the porters then back to the west coast then Arthurs pass then west coast again lol. I come from NZ and travelled these roads for 21yrs i even know of the waitress behind you at the pancake rocks lol. If you ever wanna do the back roads let me know, i got spots no-one has ever seen!
Yeh I noticed that too. Lack of continuity, also you're not telling us about the place you're in for those watching from overseas. And when you're on the west coast it is quite normal to get four seasons in one day, and lots of rain.

A trip or holiday around somewhere is one thing but to have an adventure there needs to be some unpredictability to spice things up and divert from a scheduled plan. Myself and 5 others did the whole of the south island of New Zealand for $3000 NZD the doesn't include the cost of the bike that's just for motels food drink gas and gifts ..you can buy a cheap bike for around $4500 Nzd and sell it for about the same price when you have done your trip

If you come back , try some Nth-Island Back-roads . Probably not a lot of fun on a Motorway-bike (Harley) but something nimble that handles is a magic-experience . I'd imagine a lighter sport-bike around the70-100-ish HP would be ideal . I live rural on amazing twisty roads . My W650 is fun but a little under-powered , while my XV1000 TR1 is a bit-heavy for the down-hill stuff (might be old-age though , 70 next year ) . I reckon the full-power SV650 would be ideal or a Triumph triple 675R . See you out-there...Dave nz

Where you first stopped on the coast and stopped again in the rain ......those big rocks in the ocean near the point, my wife has always called 2 Men in the Bathtube.....West Coast, South Island. She used to live and ride that area in the 70's. Every winter that area would be isolated. It would be nice if you named the more of the area's you are riding thru.
Welcome to NZ .Went to South Island a few years ago. Hired a bike Went throught Aurthers Pass would have to be the best for scenery. The road going out of Aurthers Pass was brillant. Had been there before but not on a bike

I enjoyed my time in NZ, water rafting, zip lines etc, but fell fòul of the ridiculous 100 km speed limit. Not a fan of Harley tanks.. Spooky that you are a clone of an old flame, in looks and mannerisms 😅😊 Fun riding out there
Just got to stay away from the West Coast if you want consistent good weather. Central Otago, the Canterbury Plains and Marlborough over summer, perfect. West Coast is just too wet and unpredictable.

Speaking as a New Zealander, I apologise for our roads. to be fair the South Island ones - the main ones - are not in too bad a condition, but a lot of the best riding in the North Island has been ruined by lack of repairs. I guess some of the touristy roads might be ok, but the really really good roads, the one we Kiwi's ride, unrideable. To the point I have sold my bike because its just too dangerous. 45 years of riding gone. Maybe if the roads get fixed in the future I will get something again. In the meantime, a nice comfy car, a coffee and sound will have to do. Sure is beautiful though (most of these places arent hidden gems, I could take you to places that would blow your mind). Nice views on those highways down there though.
This is my idea of hell. Organised; like minded people; outdated, humongous agricultural Milwaukee geriatric vibrators. Crashingly boring. First of all, I want to plan my own journeys. Always have, always will. Secondly, riding in groups is nauseating. Thirdly, I guarantee you won’t find more than a handful of people who think like me in any country, never mind in a group of tourists too lazy to plan their own trips. There are literally thousands of better bikes than those old things. And people PAY for that??? There’s a reason why Noraly got 43,000 views in the first hour on her latest video. Actually there thousands of reasons.
Try the North island rds, they are rated as second-best biking-roads in The World , Afghanistan was first (before shit-happened ) . Aussie roads are probably great for Cruisers and the 'Cafe' -Crowd' , know people who've had bad-times hitting 'critters' over there Dave

People love them or hate them , they're pretty agricultural and not famous for handling , look great in photo-shoots Dave nz
Isn’t the south island great , you can go from mountains to the sea in 2 odd hours or sea to sea in 3 1/2 . Arthers pass is fun innit ? Enjoy.

Start small (250-500cc), unless you already have a full license. I'm thinking of getting a CFMOTO 450NK, after 20 yrs of no bike.
