What never fails to stun me is the fact that their live versions surpass the high quality of their originals. The use of the orchestra and various instruments make it downright stellar.
i love how bastille tries so many different covers/versions of their songs like what the hell? is this not amazing? a choir? orchestra? real, deep sounding drums to make the effect more dramatic? dan's voice? the piano? and even a large, echo-filled space to encompass the beautiful sounds and give even more effect to the song??? i'm sorry, i could do this forever

One of the reasons I absolutely love this band is because the lead singer sounds just as good (if not better) live as he does recorded. Most singers nowadays sound amazing recorded, but they can't sing live for their lives.
This song helped me through very difficult times, I lost 3 people within a year, my mother, my boyfriend at the time and my father, it really gave me a lot of strength that I needed to process it with a lot of tears, of course, I always love it still and thank you for this wonderful song. Please stay that way, you probably give people more strength than you think, I would like to get to know you and hug you for the help you gave me, probably without your knowledge, greetings from Austria
I've always loved the string orchestra versions more... it's amazing how Bastille can be so flexible with what they have.... and SERIOUSLY WOODY? THE TIMPANI???
@@niheltouil7513 this is an rpg series of a Brasilian UA-camr , I do not know if it has in English because it does not have English subtitles, but, the name is "o segredo na floresta"(the secret in the forest)this is the second season of the paranormal order.
Because their stuff is very much of a particular era and place and it hasn't aged too well. Added to the fact that they aren't hugely distinctive, and it's very easy to lose them in a sea of other non distinctive bands.
They are one of those bands who are hyper controlled by stylists. Their clothes look casual, but they will have been completely instructed what to wear by their record company's stylists. It's all very deliberate.
T H you couldn’t be more wrong. They all just wear t shirts of stuff they like eg nasa, twin peaks, to kill a king, wwcomms, blp. I highly doubt anyone is “instructing” them to make these incredibly wild fashion choices. Also look at bastille secret Santa that just about sums it up.
Wow, this 4 guys rock! This and "We Can't Stop" are their best live performances ever for me. And about this one, it sounds incredibly beautiful, Bastille is such a cool band.
Made my heart melt - especially because he's so serious and into it when he's singing and then when he finishes it's like *cue adorable side smile to break a million girls' hearts*
This song is just sublime! the vocal harmonies, the string section, the pounding drums....all creates a unifying gestalt of hypnotic and haunting depth that oozes quality from every note!
Lots of ways to describe his voice, but smooth definitely isn't one of them. "Smooth" is the way you describe someone with a classic singing style like Matt Monroe in the 1950s. Dan's style is fairly shouty - it's not smooth in the slightest. At the point of the song you point out he's simply singing quietly.
I have to admit, I hardly ever listen to pop music but have just decided to listen to this - this is so good - so soulful and well-delivered, with an inspiring choral accompaniment. Recommended!
What do you listen to most often if you don't mind me asking? Because nowadays theres pretty much only three types of music; Rock or any derivative of Rock, Pop and its subcategories and Hip-hop which like Rock and Pop has it's derivatives.
Geo, Hi! This is Jacob Clare. Finally, I have time to reply to your message! I hope you are going good. I am doing good on a early Sunday morning. What do I listen to most? Firstly, classical music (particularly sonatas for piano and cello, trios, quartets, sextets and concertos by luminaries such as Beethoven, Brahms, Haydn, Schumann and Schubert), although I like symphonies as well! My favourite piece of classical music is actually Beethoven's 9th ('Ode to Joy') Symphony. Secondly, alternative rock music, and Sonic Youth are right at the top of that tree - I could mention some of their older material, but try 'Rather Ripped' or 'Sonic Nurse' or 'Murray Street', if you have not heard them before, and then listen to their other stuff - you will not be disappointed! Thirdly, I like Hard Rock/Heavy Metal, and for me, they do not get much better than Van Halen, Rush and Helloween. Have you heard Helloween's 'Keeper of the Seven Keys' (Part One and/or Part 2)? And what about Rush's live album, 'All The World's A Stage'? As for Van Halen 1, that is what got me into hard rock and heavy metal in the first place. Long live rock! Long live heavy rock! Long live Heavy Metal! Long live alternative rock! Long live classical music (which inspires a lot of pop, rock, heavy rock, alternative rock and heavy metal, by the way)! Take care, Jacob Clare
awesome! amazing voice! especially in the live version! I love the live version, this is, something special that is not heard in the processed version.
OMG!! That guy has a voice soo amazing and melodic, and all the instruments are acording to the songs soo nice! I hope they come someday to Mexico City, would be amazing!!
Can't believe I'm only discovering Bastille's music videos now, apparently 6 years later 🙄 while in quarantine 😷🤦🏻♀️. I totally know their songs from the radio but this takes it up another level 😄 swooning from seeing the lead singer and incredible vocals, instruments, music, backdrop, everything 😄👏👏👏! Thanks for bringing me back to life 😄✌️

True
totally agree
TheSoccerKitten yes but the rest of the band are kind of ignored sometimes in classical instruments versions, not this this is awesome

England, how do you create these monster bands? Let's face it. Bastille are one of the best you have and they never disappoint #blessed
Msjewnicorns because England is England XD
In no particular order...The 1975, Oasis, Take That, London Grammar (look them up..), New Order, 1D, Ed Sheeran, Adele, Elton J
Luigi Grant Dont forget Ben Howard
I bet I know what your facebook posts look like...
Because English people really do not spend all our time drinking tea.
Bastille is just brilliant. It's lovely to have modern music that is actually timeless.
LYRICS
Things we lost to the flame
Things we'll never see again
All that we've amassed
Sits before us, shattered into ash
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
We sat and made a list
Of all the things that we have
Down the backs of table tops
Ticket stubs and your diaries I read them all one day
When loneliness came and you were away
Oh they told me nothing new,
But I love to read the words you used
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
I was the match and you were the rock
Maybe we started this fire
We sat apart and watched
All we had burned on the pyre
we were born with nothing
And we sure as hell have nothing now
(You said) we were born with nothing
And we sure as hell have nothing now
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
Do you understand that we will never be the same again
Do you understand that we will never be the same again
The future's in our hands and we will never be the same again
The future's in our hands and we will never be the same again
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire, fire, fire
These are the things, the things we lost
These are the things we lost in the fire fire fire

how isn't this band more popular???
Nat The Book Eater i don’t know 😫
I know it's selfish but I'm happy they aren't more popular, when I see what this industry has done to Ed sheeran...
Because their stuff is very much of a particular era and place and it hasn't aged too well. Added to the fact that they aren't hugely distinctive, and it's very easy to lose them in a sea of other non distinctive bands.

Oh my.. best live band I have ever heard, no doubt.
0:35 omg the way Dan's staring at Kyle....
So beautiful it pierces in to my heart & soul! Love, love, love!
This is the first BASTILLE song I heard I came right to UA-cam to find it. I am officially a fan they are just perfect.
He's so British, i love it
He's South African
No, He´s english
+ArtFoxLife I know him personally, he lives in England but he is South African..
Yeah sure, he´s London born South African, and I´m actually from Mars. Having South African parents doesnt make you South african
+ArtFoxLife I didn't say born South African, but he has South African blood line..
Just flew from NY to London and listened to Bastille all the way! Virgin have the best entertainment :)
They are simply the best band I've ever listened to.
hello
You really, really need to expand your listening habits.
This song is completely awesome. And Dan's smile at the end is just... I can't.
Is one of the songs that you can hear millions of times and you will like to hear once again...
WOW. When the song started, my jaw dropped, and when it hit the chorus I literally gasped. This is utterly gorgeous.
His smile at the end :)
I love how casual they dressed lol

God that was beautiful.
The dissonance that's created by the choir at the ends of those ("oh-oh-oh-oh-ohhhh") sequences...soooo good.
Wow.. I think that was the first time I actually got chills whilst listening to music.
I get chills listening to all their songs, especially oblivion live
