He's going to be so mad when he finds out the back of the ship fell off.

Purposely designed this way, these are the 4th gen of this class of vessel. I worked for PGS for 25 yrs on the lower deck, just above the water on the stern, that was my main work area. I was a shiftleader mechanic in charge of about $16 million USD of equipment for 12 hours a day. I was certified to work the cranes, crew and coxswain the workboat, FRC(fast rescue craft) and lifeboats. I was charged with the maintenance and the repair of the seismic equipment and most of the in-sea equipment. She is designed to tow up to 24 streamers that are up to 16km long. With everything deployed these ships become the worlds largest man made object, being up to 1400m wide and 16km long.

Would it be easier to show this in adverse weather. I bet they don't go near any big waves in this boat.

Is it not designed to be ultra stable in all weather? what about this ultra wide design and deep draft would make you think that.

I worked for PGS for 25 yrs and can tell you without a doubt that this ship is very stable in rough weather compared to conventional vessels. These are the 4th gen of this of ship, designed to span across 2+ waves either fore to aft or port to starboard.

The last time I worked in marine seismic as an obbie with Geco-Prakla maximum of 8 streamers by 6 km long. With 22 streamers that's a lot of streamers and that would be a nightmare if those streamers gets tangled like a spaghetti noodles! The seismic vessel is humongous but I bet it is more stable.

Why? I heard we are going to stop using oil by 2030.

Offshore wind farms require surveys, carbon capture sites the same, some research companies require such surveys and any deep sea mining would require it - also even with reduction in fossil fuel use we would still need it and as old basins start to empty out we'd need to look for more if other solutions aren't ready.
