  • Home Detective has been out for about a month and a half, so how's it doing? Can I retire, buy a mansion, and finally invest in that solid gold hum-vee? (No.)
If you're a developer considering if it's worth it, or just morbidly curious about how games releases go in this modern hyper-saturated market, this may be interesting to you.

Hi! A few of updates on that... possibly warrants a new video!
      - I'm not making more money on App Lab, but it has kept bringing in income, which in itself is suprising. I expected it to tail off to nothing.
      - I released on Steam, and had some initial sales there, but I'm selling a different product (all in one) so it's hard to compare exactly. Brings in slightly less revenue than App Lab overall.
      - Meta will soon merge App Lab into the Store properly, so _everyone_ will be on the Store. Will be interesting to see how easily games are found, compared to AAA titles.

That would have been really good information to put into the video, wouldn't it? :P
Well, essentially, I posted about it as much as I could. On Facebook, UA-cam, Reddit, Discord... including the video (when allowed) and asking my friends to download/play it. I asked for some feedback on Reddit and a few people gave me their thoughts about it, which I still keep in mind when designing the new levels.
I was quite lucky and the release was picked up by a journalist at UploadVR. He kindly made a story and I was on the front page for a day, that was a massive boost. In that case I emailed him directly (via the website) and told him all about my game. It's really up to the journalists what they choose to post though!
I find marketing my game very difficult. Personally I think the best strategy now is to try to avoid spamming people, but posting again when you have new content or new features to show off. Do you have any tips? :)
