When someone explained his name to me i was blown away:
Whats the opposite of a liquid stranger?
A solid friend.
That just blew my mind 🤯 I had assumed the liquid part was referencing liquid dance that was popular in the rave scene back in the day, and the stranger part was because he originally intended to be anonymous, but your explanation makes more sense
Gaseous acquaintance.
Plasma foe.
@@ieatants888 hehe
@@ieatants888 Plasma Foe is actually a pretty dope moniker
I got chills after reading that ❤😮
He was so underrated for so long. It's sick to see him be recognized as one of the goats. Well deserved. Great video, man!
He’s still extremely underrated
been following him since ~2010 when him excision and downlink were putting stuff out on Rottun Records. Martin is a goat and I'm glad he's gotten to a place he deserves to be, can't wait for wakaan fest round 4 this fall! 😁
@@daver00lzd00d I can’t wait either! Bought my tickets last week, super excited.
Agreed! I was shocked that last year was his first time playing red rocks.
@@daver00lzd00d I’ll be there as well. Can’t wait!
My first Liquid Stranger experience was at a Shambhala in the Village stage.
My day started by getting stung in the leg by a ground wasp earlier in the morning. Med tent told me to prop it and stay off my leg. So I went and chilled in a chair at my favorite stage.
after a very late night and I'm about to hobbel off to bed Liquid comes on for a massive long sun rise set. His sound had me hooked from the first beat. I couldn't help but get up and wiggle and get weird. Best Shambhala memory ever!!!
Shambhala and liquid stranger is a perfect duo🙌 saw him last year at the pagoda and i think about it all the time!
Of the trees into liquid stranger into zeds dead last year was one of the best nights of my life
@@Deadmau5ismyhero FOR REAL! All 3 of those sets were the best sets i had seen from those artist. Especially the liquid stranger set
@@Deadmau5ismyhero Big up Of the Trees, our good ol' local Colorado boy. His shows are killer. Liquid Stranger is one of my favorites as well.
I went to Wakaan 2023
And that festival definitely changed my view on many things including experimental bass and dubstep
It brought back my love of Dub
wakaan fest has been incredible every year that it's been held. can't wait for round 4 on the mountain this fall! 👐
I quickly fell in love with the music then raced to find out more about the artist, & now I've fallen in love with him as a person. Thank you for this video!! Ima die hard fan now & I plan to attend Wakaan 2025!
This was great!
Yoooo you just made my day! Cool to see you here
like many other people in the comments are saying, you should def have a lot more recognition. love to see you diving into bass & modern edm. keep this shit up bro!
I appreciate it!
I love Liquid Stranger
I’m glad I got to see him at EDCO last year right before Excision.
Fuck yeah homie. EDCO was 🔥
*Beautiful video. I'm a big Liquid Stranger fan. I was exposed to their work before Wakaan and was pleasantly surprised to learn about 'Sskwan'. Thank you for this upload.*
Posted this in his fb group a lot of peeps will appreciate this
Sweet, thank you for doing that!
You are probably the reason I am here watching then haha! Thank you, if so! #wakaanfam
Thanks for sharing! 🐐
Martin is a living legend! im so grateful to be alive while he’s still playing
Hell ya! I'm so stoked to be seeing him play next month for the first time
The more i get to know about this guy the greater is my motivation to keep going and produce more and more❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Definitely top 3 of my favorite producers of all time. It broke my heart last yr at Shambhala, about 50 minutes into his set at the Pagoda, the acid turned on me 😭
But I will be redeemed!!!! He's playing again this yr. I've been following him since around 2010 I believe, once X signed him to Rottun. Listened to his Mechanoid meltdown and Bionic beatdown mix literally for a yr straight. Then he did his ambient stuff for a while which kinda threw me off but then I heard The Gorgon and Wings Of Waves remix and we'll, he never fails to deliver.
Thank you for doing a mini doc on him 🙏
Bro you are killing it with these videos! Im stoked that i found your channel!!
Watching this fresh off of Wakaan Fest '24, and I while I appreciate the hell out of Martin and his team already, this raises my respect for the person he has molded himself into. He seems like such a pure, driven, and passionate spirit, and you feel that in his music and presentation.
Much love for this video!!!
As far as that dirty mechanical sounding dubstep from the early 2010s goes... NOBODY could touch him imo,(Excision, Space Laces, Downlink, Datsik ect.) His sound always hit different to me, it was so mechanical yet so human and organic sounding somehow. His stuff on Rottun will always be my favorite dubstep hands down.
The years in the thumbnail near gave me a heart attack lol
Yeah I didn't think about that when I made it lol, I just meant the video covers his whole life
Interesting video! Especially to show other producers that it doenst have to "happen" when you are like 21, just keep going and thing will happen
I am loving this series... I'm a huge fan of Liquid Stranger, Rezz, and Subtronics, so you've got me hooked on your channel already.
Would love to see some future episodes on ATLiens, Zomboy, Dirt Monkey, and ill.Gates, (my mentor who also appears in the above video)..
I love these documentaries!! You have been crushing - keep it up man!
Thank you, glad you like them!
been following him since his days putting stuff out on excision's rottun records. liquid is the king of experimental bass and wakaan will forever be top tier bass music releases. cant wait for wakaanfest in the fall, round 4 lets gooo
One more, this one time at echo stage we got an entire spaghetti time set and it was one of the best sets I will ever see. This man is one of the best to ever do and I have the upmost respect for him as a person. Thanks for getting this information out there. ❤
Thanks for the video! Liquid Stanger is the goat been my favorite artist for years 💙 #wakaanfam
The Bass Missionary!!!!!
I saw liquid stranger open for excision in 2014 before I had ever heard of him. So sick!
Wow this is super inspiring. I had no idea that we were the same age and I also started my music journey in trance about 1999 under the name 303 Infinity. Now I am doing music in somewhat of a similar scene. Martial Arts has also been a huge passion of mine since 1997 ! Crazy
It's really inspiring to know that there are people my age that are still stream rolling ahead ! Sometimes I feel like a dinosaur ! I look forward to meeting Liquid Stranger some day!!!
I can't believe as such a big fan I never listened to those first two albums. Holy crap they might be his best. So ahead of its time in 2007-2009
This was so informative and very awesomely done. Would love to see one on G-JONES!
Check out Cult Figure Club, he has a G Jones video!
wow this is amazing!!! Martin has been one of my biggest inspirations since I started making music after discovering psychedelic bass music when I had only heard dubstep and house before, it is especially inspiring to know he had been at it for so long before the trees of his labours beared any fruits. This resonates as someone who has been producing for (only) five years going on six but in todays day and age and my kinda uh generation I guess because it has felt a bit discouraging at times as time goes on and I inevitably observed so many people kinda my age and younger proceed to blow up in what I (think) was a shorter frame of time. (not to make this about me but) Anyways thanks for making these videos man, very interesting watch!!
Just listened to his Bloatsucher IDM stuff, man he is simply gifted at music production
great video shedding light on someone who makes music from an authentic place and lives their life accordingly
Huge inspiration for me had a gnarly trip with my friends listened to the entire infinity mix and bought ableton the next day🔥 talk about pushing boundaries he created an entire culture. Thank you for this video dude very sick and much appreciated🦑🔊🫶🏽
Looking forward to this
I remember that flyer it happened right before he moved if I remember right. Then I remember hearin the rumblings about it actually happening it was such a wonderful festival year 1
This is such a great documentary man thank you for your work.
I grew up like many here listening to dubstep, especially the releases from excisions label in the early years.
Until recently liquid stranger for me was stuck in 2011, I had never listened to anything past the monumental mechanoid album and mechanoid mix.
Discovering that he kept making music, expanding his sound palet, creating a huge record, making success after success with his own tracks and the tracks from artists he signed made me so happy.
Seeing all these informations now adds so much depth to all of that lore, its so great to have people like you making documentaries about artists from the early dubstep scene. Keep it up. I can't wait for more. I really do hope you'll talk about classic artists with huge discography like zeds dead or moody good in the future. Cheers
Thank you! I do have a Zeds Dead video already if you want to check that out
Liquid stranger is a legend. Humble with humility
Martin is the man to do it all! first artist to really get me into the end scene. 🕺🏽 keep up the killer work. i’ve been waiting for this one!
Awesome channel + detailed interview - I'll be back to learn more!
Thank you for doing the research and putting these videos together. I cant imagine the amount of time these take. I love the structure, story telling and the topic choices. Finding these artists over the years have really made me who i am today and learning more about them makes me appreciate them more. As well as making them seem like people and making your dreams come true really is an option. Thank you
Thank you so much!
Great documentary thoroughly enjoyed watching this, there is not enough content on these amazing producers. Much love from Texas. You can tell some work was put into this🔥
Dude, absolutely AWESOME job on the video. I was at Imagine 2016 when I was in the Army, I saw that same Liquid set! 17:15
Oh nice! That was my first festival, I had a blast
This is really interesting stuff as an aspiring professional EDM artist myself. I just stumbled across your channel for the first time and I see that you cover the history of a lot of artists, which I love! Super cool brother, thank you for doing this. I'll be tuning in.
Glad you found the channel!
Martin is the real GOAT. Stellar human being and artist✨🫶🏼
incredibly underrated vids ! lowkey u the only one i got notifications on for
I'm flattered 🥹
Would love to see a deep dive on Amon tobin and his multiple alias. Such a deep rabbit hole and influential artist! Love your vids
very well made! Thank you for this :)
Great vid, thank you for spending the time researching I really enjoyed
I been to Wakaan 2022 It wAS AMAZING!!!
liquid stranger is one of my biggest inspirations, WAKAAN and sskwan makes me feel so many different emotions. My favorite track is Dissolve it actually makes me feel a burst of things I've never felt, and makes me cry in happiness. I now am a producer and create music everyday because of what ive learned from Martin. Hectopascal is a beautiful craft as well. if you haven't listened to any hectopascal try it out! Its very different and floaty
I still remember him opening for Excision on his X Tour in Atlanta. The concerts power went out from a huge storm and I was messaging Martin on Facebook and dude literally came out in the torrential downpour to take a pic with me.
I've been a big fan for years and had no idea Wakaan was based in OKC
Amazing video
I'll be at wakaan in a month and a half!
Would love to see a tipper one gonna catch up on the other artists!
He is so smart and his manager is so dense is unbelievable lol, cheers to Liquid
Free form bass missionary🧙♂️
🙏⛪️🔊
It sounds like he had very supportive parents that’s awesome
he was my first show in 2017 @ 930 club and that’s how I got into the scene haha
Dude . Back round song list plz
Need Svdden death next
Do one on Tipper
What is the ID playing in the background at 11:00??
So sick ! Ty for this !
Been listening to him since Private Riot. His first 6 albums are in my opinion the best especially The Arcane Terrain. But I am just a little bit younger than he is that's why I like his more Reegee/ Dubstep/ albums.
skipping over teaming up with spade jesus ?
Space jesus was the f in man in 2017
Liquid is the dj I've seen the most at 15 times
Same but I'm only at 11
I’m still learning Ableton.
This is so dope lol
What a bad-ass human.
track name at 10:30?
It’s spaghetti time❤
🍝🍝🍝
Bro with the thumbnail photo.. I thought liquid stranger died.
Yeah I didn't think about it being perceived that way when I made it 😆
He is the goat!
🐐
what songs playing at 11:15??
It's a splice demo loop
Can you do LSDream as well
Already have one for him!
What song is at 10:40?
It's a demo loop from splice
ID for song at 10:31 please
It's just a demo loop from splice
25:41
kinda implying that wakaan was the first festival at mulberry mtn ?
I just now googled it and I didn't realize Backwoods had moved to Mulberry Mountain! Still not many edm festivals happening in that area of the country though
@@audioeatswakarusa was there well before either
you should do zedd or subtronics next
I'm down to do Subtronics next! I've got 2 more videos I need to finish before then, but I can do one pretty soon. And I'll definitely get around to Zedd at some point!
hm
I swear, I was that kid that made the original fake Wakaan poster
Yooo you're a legend now! I was trying to track it down for the video but couldn't find it anywhere
BULLY!
Half decade. Try 14 years!
He's been making great music for a really long time, I just meant he's gotten a lot more "mainstream" success the last 5-7 years
I did not appreciate that thumbnail 😠
I didn't mean to make it seem like he died 😬 Just meant those were the years the video covers
He looks too young to be born in the 70s.
Yeah he looks insanely young for his age, it's all that tantric yoga
Shoutout to that 0:15 clip from @famingosproductions love those guys in the Houston scene! 🦩
Absolutely loved your video also, I can tell you really dove in. Thank you for the vid dude keep it up
