Did you know Emu's typically lay one egg every three days, usually at sunset. The male decides where he wants them laid & will tell the female, he won't sit on them until they have enough, sometimes this can be as many as a dozen. The first few tend not to be fertile but those that are can stay fertile for about 5 weeks before they start to lose fertility. How exciting to hear those words at White House On The Hill Farm- the emus have laid eggs! 🎉
As much as I love this channel and find it wholesome, I feel sometimes due diligence isn't done to research certain things like this. I know a lot is trial and error. We have forums and tons of resources for various aspects of farming and whatnot. I don't even farm, ranch, or anything and I frequent these just to learn. It just feels like either they're doing this without research (which is fine, I suppose) or it's to set a tone sometimes. I'm really not sure.... Again, love this channel and I think they're awesome people. It just disappointing sometimes. The videos sometimes make it out like "how were we supposed to know?!" When some basic research might've helped. Either way, I've been subbed since about... late 2018ish? I see them learning, which is the important thing.
You guys give me so much happiness!!! The birth of your kids, the farm, every acomplishment I celebrate if I was a family member.. wish you many more happy days!
@@nouvel0001 it takes time remember its winter they can't do much without outside help, they doing everything by themselves.. and also the materials are expensive..
That’s a lot of eggs I didn’t know they lay that many!! I’m so excited I’ve been here since you hatched bamboo and have been waiting for this moment!❤❤❤
I remember Bamboo running around the house in a little sock outfit so he doesn't poo everywhere. So stinking cute! So so happy & excited to see emu eggs & that Bamboo could be a Dad soon (hopefully 🤞) ❤️❤️❤️
I come around to this channel ever so often and I can’t believe that it’s become full circle for bamboo and his little eggs. I remember watching years ago when he first hatched…how time flies!!! Hope you are all doing well!
This is so exciting!!! I’ve been following you for a couple of years and this is a whole next step in your barn and UA-cam career!! We have been expecting for so long
I'm so glad to hear that the emus have laid some eggs. I really hope they are fertile and you're able to hatch some, I know you have been waiting for this for quite a while. Love your videos!
I’m so happy and excited that they laid eggs, never thought that they would have laid any this season but they finally did! Can’t wait for the upcoming video
Omgosh I’m New here!!! It I’m No less excited then I’d been here years anticipating this. We are moving to a homestudy in April and this makes me want to add emus to our new journey
I started watching this channel around when you hatched Bamboo. Between your peacock and emu journey is what got me invested. I'm so excited for you guys! What a fun development! I hope at least one, if not more are fertile! Either way, it's still a step in the right direction!
That sucks that some of them broke but I’m so happy that they laid for you! And it’s so crazy to think that the dog is three years old already ?! what? I have been watching since you guys had the little farm ! before you even had this big place. Where did the years ago??? Feels like literally just last year
So exciting! Yay! Bamboo is gonna be a dad! I've seen on other channels journeys that they will eat them for the nutrients if they are not fertile. Hoping for at least one or two to hatch! Fingers crossed can't wait to see new babies!! Congrats to you all!
This video just came out in my country and i got so excited when i saw the notification come up im getting cozy to enjoy. Ive been watching you guys for years i enjoy very moment❤️
I’m also a viewer of The Urban Rescue Ranch, and the channel runner, Ben, keep rheas, emus, and ostriches. He hasn’t ever had good luck with his breeding rhea being able to raise their own eggs either. He says they’re, quite frankly, just dumb. Don’t feel bad about having to collect and raise the eggs yourself, that seems to be quite common for captive ratites. He’s had success in incubating and raising their offspring himself though, and you guys already have experience successfully hatching and raising emus, so I’m super excited to see if these eggs are fertile and capable of hatching!
I know if sounds like a waste but have you considered opening one to check for a bullseye? I know their eggs are a bit more valuable and less often than quail but that is how I check my new layers sometimes.
YAY! so excited all the work of getting the males Bert and Ernie is paying off-what a journey its been. Ostriches and emus apparently know if an egg isn’t fertile and cracking/eating them isnt unheard of. But I agree with collecting and incubating any surviving eggs. also 9 eggs is a good amount! CONGRATULATIONS! Good job peekaboo.
I don't know much about breeding ratites, but I know parrots can lay too many infertile eggs and start having to pull calcium from their bones. They just keep laying eggs until either laying season ends or you leave some of them in there. If emus are like parrots, you'll want to significantly increase the amount of calcium they are getting and/or put some dummy eggs in so she thinks there's a full nest and stops laying.
I noticed that you let pickaboo see and taste the one broken egg.... Perhaps that's were she got the idea to break open the rest...? Love from the Netherlands, Daniëlle 🙋
When geese lay infertile eggs somehow they know and they pile them up and break them too. Those eggs along the back of the shed looked like they'd been there awhile. But good for you to finally get the eggs at all. I hope they produce for you. How exciting.

@@k9thundra Maybe the eggs she broke open were the bad eggs.
I wonder if peekaboo was eating eggs that were unfertilised.
Wow how fascinating, I never knew these things! Sounds like a good system. Do you keep Emu's yourself?
@@k9thundra you and the OC have so much knowledge about Emu's! I found it all extremely interesting.

That’s a lot of eggs I didn’t know they lay that many!! I’m so excited I’ve been here since you hatched bamboo and have been waiting for this moment!❤❤❤
My guess is they laid 1 every day as with chickens and most birds. So most of them were around a while.
I didn't know they laid that many either. I thought maybe 2 or 3 at most.
I've been waiting too this is crazy
Same here ❤
Ours laid one a day at the exact same time each day
Am stoked! Hope you get lots of babies out of this! Looking forward to the updates!
Thanks!
Good
I hope at least one of the eggs is fertilized because it'll mean Bamboo finally understands the birds and the bees. 😂
He understands the birds. It's the bees that confused him.
@@denicesanders4586 nope.... He thought he was people. The birds part escapes him 🤣

can't you tell from the yolk, if the egg is fertilized or not.
