Initial days struggle needs a lot of mental toughness nd patience with a sense of optimism always. Not easy to get adjusted in a basement apartment especially when u used to live in a pretty descent house in your home country 🙂

We have lived in a basement apartment in Ontario for nearly 13 years. We got it when rent was super cheap. Rent in Toronto has shot up in the last 13 years and we can’t afford to move anywhere else. We have made the best of our basement apartment. The house doesn’t have central heating because both the main floor and basement are rented out so the house has baseboard electric heaters so we don’t have to worry about the cold. I wish we had AC though for the heat waves we have here. It can get pretty hot. We run a dehumidifier during summer and humidity during winter to keep humidity at 50% to prevent dampness and mold. We didn’t have a dishwasher included either but we bought a portable one that we can connect to the kitchen sink faucet and it has worked well.

That was the end of everything I owned. Where did you first move into when you landed? After how many days or months did you get this basement?
