The Licence tax is the equivalent of being forced to give ASDA £170 a year just so you can shop at ALDI, or Sainsburys. Absolutely unnecessary tax.

Funny how I have never seen, Reps from other broadcasters demanding £'s because they broadcast. Only a matter of time before they could be asking for funds for having a front door or paying Royal mail for a letterbox tax. 😅 infinite possibility in an infinite universe with all possibilities not beyond being true. Revenue & cash for a select few. In the mis belief that it is there right to demand it. I've never been into propaganda. Especially when it makes rich people richer. It is better to watch the ultimate entertainment ! Life itself. Just an option!! It's not a statement of fact. As Albert Einstein once stated. We DON'T have a T.V. Licence. We don't wish to fund the B.B.C. We are law-abiding and so cannot, therefore, watch any other channels live as they are being broadcast. We MAY wish to, however. Therefore, we would like to see the Licence abolished in order to give us choice AND out of fairness to other channels who are unfairly losing viewers such as ourselves.

I'm not too sure whether the BBC is bothered about the other channels losing viewers because of the TV licensing rules. There are suggestions that we will end up paying for the BBC through a hiked Council Tax whether we watch live broadcast TV (and bbc iplayer) or not. Imagine having no choice other than to pay for the propaganda and awful programmes that the BBC churns out!

Certainly, the idea of our funding this awful broadcaster through any generic taxation is even worse than the Licence which we can, at least, not pay. My first choice (for what it is worth) would be that the B.B.C. folds. My second/third choice is that they fund themselves by advertising and/or subscription. (When in an hotel, we do occasionally tune to the B.B.C. just to remind ourselves why we don't buy a Licence. This generally lasts all of two minutes!!)

It doesn't matter what channel I watch, if it is not part of the BBC and I rigerously shun any BBC service, BBC should not get my money. If the BBC is so insistent on maintaining the TV licence, then they should stop being a private corporation and go back to being 100% state owned and have their services reduced to only essentials, such as maintaining the Emergency Broadcast infrastructure, nothing else. If the BBC wants to be a private corporation and produce "entertainment" (or whatever it is they call the trash they produce these days), they need to find their funding with subscription models or advertisement.

It always annoyed me in the music industry. You'd buy a vinyl 45, then buy a vinyl LP with the same track, then buy a Cassette, then a CD, then a download. Each time You'd pay full price for the music and the medium but you'd already paid the copyright it was just new format to play on the latest kit or in your car.
Why do you have to pay the copyright for the same recording multiple times.

Americans find the UK TV license odd because it's mandatory, even for those who don't watch BBC content. Unlike in the U.S., where people pay only for services they choose, the TV license feels restrictive. Enforcement with fines or jail also seems excessive, and many see it as outdated in a world dominated by streaming. Public broadcasting in the U.S. relies on donations, not mandatory fees, which better aligns with consumer freedom.

The licence fee and the way live over the air TV content is transmitted is archaic and unnecessary. We live in a modern world and should be able to watch content when we want and in many cases pay for that privilege. The BBC should fund itself via selling content through subscription. The unwarranted tax is a detriment to the poorer end of the pay scale such as pensioners, students and so on. The fact that you can be fined a lot of moeny (and in the past jailed)for not having a TV licence while watching live broadcasts, which again affect the poor and vulnerable, is abhorrent as being jailed for 2 years for a tweet on X! I had to agree to his arguments then that if the BBC went to advertising the ITV and Channel 4 (was no 5) would have to compete on price and everyone would start to lose out. However, with so many channels now accepting low-cost advertising, that has happened and ITV is as rubbish as everything else. So 'Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war.' Worth noting that when the House of Lords explored alternatives to the TV Licence Fee, they were against general taxation.
However, they were supportive of a household levy on council tax. This would allow for discounts to be applied, such as single occupancy and those with SMIs. The collection and enforcement of it would also be covered by the existing council tax system.
I believe they were also broadly supportive of a levy on broadband, though that had more issues/concerns.
Replying on advertising is a non-starter, as it would be strongly opposed by all commercial TV channels. Subscription was also ruled out, not least as the government likes a bit of soft power, which the BBC brings particularly via the World Service.

      Lords report: committees.parliament.uk/publications/23091/documents/169130/default/
Chapter 4 (paragraph 88) lists European countries that have abolished the licence fee, and states what it has been replaced with. Paragraphs 131 to 136 cover the household levy alternative.
Hopefully, the current Labour government will take note of this report when making its decisions.

One of the biggest revenue raising licences is the SIA licence.
£184, and it only lasts 3 years. 🙄

If the government want a national channel, they should be paying for it without directly charging fees to the citizens.

I really used to like the idea of the BBC when it was impartial.
Sometimes it's easy to forget the benefits.
In the USA for example, if there was a guest that talked about subjects an advertiser didn't like they would threaten to withdraw their sponsorship if the guest was allowed to say certain things.
I've just realised, that's a bit like UA-cam. It's great that's it's free but a lot of opinions are not allowed. If you want to hear free opinions you have to pay for it.
The BBC in it's current state doesn't deserve any money though

They should not include radio as you do not need a license to listen to the radio anymore.
