I was sent here by another Loomer to see how to do brioche, and she said never give up on trying this out, i won't but it is different i will say to normal looming..Thank you..Kim☺
I love that you did this video! I started loom knitting last Nov and brioche always interested me but I was never able to figure it out. Do you have something holding your loom down? Mine would be flying all over the place! Great video, thanks for teaching us!
Yes. Velcro. When I'm knitting for real, I hold the loom between my knees. As the scarf gets longer, I hold the scarf between my knees instead and knitting it gets easier.
I love the look of brioche, but the pattern I desperately wanted to make NEVER came out right! Changing yarns and changing gauge size looms didn't help at all, it still came out quite loose and sloppy. I am very anxious to try your technique because it seems to address the problem I have been having all along. Thank you for posting the video!
Wow, it's like you are performing a dance with your yarn and arms. Your own special loom hula! Thanks for the video! I wanna try this now. Are you using worsted weight yarn or heavier?
I will make that video soon. if you want to try now, just knit the first pegs, then the third, then the fifth, etc. Then, knit the twelfth, the tenth, the eighth, all the way back to the second. That's one row. It's a very tight and thick stitch.
ok, thanks!; i'll try that. Isn't that the technique you used (swapping out the colors on each side, as needed) for the houndstooth scarf? Hubby's b-day is in a few weeks and I would really like to try to make that for him. Did you do that scarf on a large gauge with bulky yarn or on a smaller gauge KB loom, with worsted weight?
The houndstooth was made with Deborah Norville, a bulky yarn, on a large gauge loom. Using the skipped brioche technique I described, the pattern is as follows- Pick a color to be color A. The other color is B. Pick a side to be main side. I will tell you which color to wrap the pegs on the main side in two passes- the 1st and 2nd. 1st pass is pegs 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11. 2nd pass is pegs 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2. Row 1, 1st pass- B all the way, ending on 11. Row 1, 2nd pass- B and A alternating, starting with B, ending with A on peg 2. Row 2, 1st pass- B and A alternating, starting with B, ending with A on peg 11. Row 2, 2nd pass- A all the way, ending on peg 2. Row 3, 1st pass- A all the way, ending on 11. Row 3, 2nd pass- B and A alternating, starting with B, ending on peg 2. Row 4, 1st pass- B and A alternating, starting with B, ending on peg 11. Row 4, 2nd pass- B all the way, ending on peg 2. Repeat 1- 4 until it reaches the length you want. you can make it narrower or wider in multiples of 4. It is VERY THICK. I hope this helps.
Hi, don't you just love this stitch? I need to try it soon. I have been looking for this purple loom. What brand is it and do you know where I can find one? Thank you for sharing
Hi Kimberly, thank you for replying so quickly. :) I like that loom because the pegs have a good head on them. The long looms I have don't and it is hard to keep the yarn on them. It could just be me too. I am used to using the round looms with the better pegs. I will check around for this on the internet. Can't find it at the local stores. Thanks again. Have a great week. :)
Thanks. Just listened to your Clasped garter stitch video. I have not heard of it before. Is it your own creation? I think it great. And the colors you chose are so awesome. Thanks again for another great video :)
Wow amazing i love how you create this pattern. It just shows we learn everyday. 😍

This will be my next project. Thank you for an awesome video.
I wonder what it looks like when you're finished

I like this but how do I make this more tighter and not stretchy in width? Any idea?
Which yarn is best for this means the yarn no is4or5
Which type of yarn is best

How do you cast off after?
Thank you! Thank you! Great instructions!

I'm using Charisma. It's a five. For a worsted weight, I'd use a smaller gauge loom or 2 strands.
i love ur dog
Great visual guide! Can't wait to try it out!!!
So, how do you do the slipped stitch version, in order to create the houndstooth effect?
I will make that video soon. if you want to try now, just knit the first pegs, then the third, then the fifth, etc. Then, knit the twelfth, the tenth, the eighth, all the way back to the second. That's one row. It's a very tight and thick stitch.

What weight of yarn are you using? it looks like a Bulky (5) or maybe a Super Bulky (6)
I'm using 5. it's Charisma by Loops and Threads

Loops and Threads makes looms like this. Or you can try to find a Knifter Knitter. and yes. I love this stitch. It's really fun to do.

+jlee Knifty Knitters definitely have the best heads. good luck!

+jlee Yes. It's my own stitch.
Hi Kimberly, What cast off do you use for this brioche scarf?
I do the cast on in the video. it's a tightened brioche cast on.
+Kimberly Carrigan, thank you for your speedy response. I did see the cast on. I was just wondering how you cast off/bind off?
+Judy Kirchner oh! Sory. Misread. I made a cast off video. It's on this page.
+Kimberly Carrigan Thank you! Is it the video for the double knit cast off? Thank you so much for your help! And I LOVE your videos! So helpful!
+Judy Kirchner yes. That's the only cast off I use for double knitting. I'm a simple girl. ☺
