Got suspension elements from both Fox & RS and usually prefer RS for ease of service. BUT love how Fox made travel adjustment on the Float X very easy, without destroying spacers. 2.5mm increments, so easy, even I can do it :D Wish manufacturers would do it that way on every shock. Also like the spacer solution on the Manitou forks. Would be seriously considering a Mattoc and Mezzer, if I didn't have a 34, 36, Pike and Lyrik, which I'm happy with.
To say I am shocked by your caveman antics is an understatement, however, it makes me feel a bit better about the odd times I have to bodge stuff! A confidence inspiring watch 😆
@@MarkAinsworthAinz unfortunately most people who know me would be shocked at how pro I was compared to my normal back street butchery habits. I did run this ‘hack’ past Fin at Full Factory Suspension too
@@GuyKesTV I'm considering fiddling with my 2021 Top Fuel 9.8 in a similar way by, erm, gently removing the spacer from the Sidluxe, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna run into clearance issues with the stated 115mm frame travel. I think it'll probably be alright... will have a gander next time I take the shock out.
Loved the butchery personally. The only thing you didn’t do was lose a key bolt or nut under your units or a shelf where the spiders live 😂 like I normally do! You might need some zzzzs
@@MarcusOliver2006 oh don’t worry, there’s plenty of lost essentials under there. Especially since i decided to put metal check plate on the workshop floor so you’ve no idea which direction they’ve bounced off in 😵💫
Hey man, Merry Christmas. Dig your style and dig your videos. On paper the Top Fuel looks like a perfect bike for me. My current Spur is a great bike. A near perfect fit. But it’s built up around a 120mm SID which I’ve yet to really get along with. Almost like the front end is a mismatch in terms of capability compared to the rear. I’ve got a spare 130 Pike I may try on it. I think the 130 Pike has a much better feel than the SID. You have any time on the Spur?
@@mkrj2576 thanks and merry festives to you too. I’ve been trying to get on a Spur for so long. Definitely think you should try the Pike. Which version and year is it?
@ no I wouldn’t say so. The Charger 2 series models were awesome. Charger 3 Ultimate had some issues with bushing fit which is mostly cured with 3.1 forks but they can be hard to find a sweet spot with. So sounds like you’ve got the pick of the bunch
I’m really hoping that Trek is updating the Fuel EX for 2025 in the same ways they’ve upgraded the TF. If so that would be a really exciting trail bike. Also really excited for all of your thoughts on the fox suspension! Really curious to see how the 36 Grip X2 works on the TF.
@@AlienfromEarth I’m already straight lining much more stuff with the 10mm travel bump so can’t wait to get the 36 plugged in. Might have to put the 34 in first though just for a direct comparison with the Manitou
@@lordgibbness I’ve seen some others on UA-cam comments complaining that the steering gets too wandery at 140mm. Are you overstroking? Have you had any issues with wandering steering?
To think I nearly let my kids watch this!! Fortunately I noticed the “Contains Shocking Workshop Butchery” last minute, phew!!
@@creativechimp03 I nearly put ‘parental advisory’ but figured that would have tripped the UA-cam alarms. I’m glad you were more responsible
Sounds like some superb projects planned there!!

I would love to try the frame with a RS Super Deluxe. Better control and I think the hydraulic bottom out would be nice on the frame.
Totally agree, and I should get the shock and a 150mm Lyrik in January
Would love to hear what you think of that Guy. I'm thinking of trying 150mm next winter on my 2022.
Any chance you could put these videos in a playlist?
@@elslanedog1264 that’s a really bloody good idea. I’ll get it sorted 👍🏻
Oh and looking forward to see how you like the pimped Top Fuel. Are you going to try the 650b rear wheel too?
@@Felix-mr1vs yep, got a Roval 27.5 wheel and Schwalbe Rock Razor 2.6 all ready to go 👌🏻
