And is it possible to coat it without painting it before, for a more "natural" look? And one more.. I tried to grow kalebasse but it is no good weather where i live for the gurd, it stays too small or is rotting.. When i buy one online, what are the things i have to look at that it is not breaking when i drill in it? Thanks for the cool and informative video;
I dont coat the inside as I worry about a fire. If the end user choose a heating light bulb with high wattage, there would be a risk as varnish is a chemical. This is a very little risk but still there. Yes you can coat the gourd itself with no paint at all. Over here we call them natural finish. Our designs like 'Bohemian Enigma' or 'Metania' are examples of natural finish. When buying gourds online, you should check their shape. However the quality lies on the thickness of the gourd. The thicker the gourd, the better it is.

Hello Heather. I use Dremel but I am not perfectly happy with it. However if your gourds are cracking I would first put the blame on the gourd rather than the drill. If the gourd is weak, not thick enough or rotten you wont be able to open quality holes no matter which drill you use. You may also try reducing the speed of the drill.
Your work is beautiful. Where do you get your beads for the lamps? I’ve been to all the craft stores in my area and nobody has anything like the beads you’re using. Thanks for any info you can provide.
I am interested in the beading information. My parents used to do this kind of work but they have both passed n now I am very interested in designing gourds as well
