Joel and his wife ran an arcade restoration business, and with other businesses he's had before, you'd think he would get insurance. But in previous videos, which have been taken down now, he clearly said he didn't believe in insurance, and his cars were not even insured; he also said in one video that he had a brain tumour and was going to take care of it naturally, which makes you wonder his decision-making process. No hate on him; the channel was great while it lasted, I don't think he is coming back; I'd love to know what Jess is up to; she was a great co-host.
I like the new channel name, makes sense. As for The Last Gamer, the last I heard from him was that his house got struck by lightening and caught fire (something similar but I'm not sure), he lost most of his game collection (including the awesome arcade machines) and unfortunately he didn't have insurance for his collection.
The house didn't catch fire, but it did damage his arcade machines. Him and his wife were expert arcade machine repairers though, so you'd think he'd have no problem fixing them. If he could find the impetus.
@@MesonW True but it could have been there were so many to repair and trying to source parts. Plus if the damaged parts were things like motherboards, system components, or computer chips do replacement parts even exist?? And this was be added on top of their repair business.
Last Gamer was an inspiration, but he never realised his potential. Weird to think really given he spent so many years on UA-cam. I only came across him in 2018 and loved following his library and collection videos. Shame a lot of his videos were taken down.
Joel suffered two heart attacks a time ago working so hard in his obsession to re-create in his house the same Arcade he used to go when he was a child... And being one the the major collectors in the world!! But i think now he is just relaxing and playing good games with his two children Luke and Zelda and his wife too. He is a good guy!
It was the Sega Megadrive Tetris, about 8 copies in the world as Sega didn't get the licence to Tetris, Nintendo did. But 8 copies were made and leaked out. Hope Joel/family is ok, but honestly the guy made his videos about him rather than the games and he was semi pushy with opinions on covid, making his life story instead of talking about games. His channel short changed himself, he would have 10 million subs, not 144k.
Joel was a strange one. I spent a lot of time watching him and following his auto-biography series. He then didnt conclude it (leaving us on a cliffhanger, with more questions than answers) then he kind of vanished. His comments about insurance were frustrating. Reckless, in fact. And no one knows what became of him. To that end, I hope he and the family are happy. I got the impression from Joel that he couldnt settle on what he wanted his channel to be. There was constant chopping and changing and re-uploading and then all of that building work! I can relate to that, to a small extent.
last gamer is an inspiration to me and im in the process now of building a gamesroom that will be very similar to joels (before he redid it as a museum) i miss his channel and still watch his vlogs and collection room tours to this day, im an aussie and its really cool to me that joel is an aussie too ;-)
There’s been a number of unverified rumours, but no one really knows. Joel promised a “Final Chapter” video in 2021, that was supposed to bring some closure to Last Gamer, but he never delivered that video and seems to have willfully ghosted his audience since.
I miss the last gamer. I hope all is well with Joel and his family

His home arcade was nuked by lightning 😢 he is a broken man.
Well presented, young man.
Best of luck... hope to see you grow

I remember him and I wanted to know how he was able to afford to add on to his house huge ass rooms just for his collection alone.
He built them all himself, albeit with help from friends in construction.

I remember him talking once about someone that offered him tens o millions for his collection. Seems like the offer came from some guy in Norway.
In all honesty if this had been my collection I too would pretty much disappear.
As a collector myself ....... i really liked his channel ......❤😊😊😊
Awesome upload massive inspiration to us smaller creators. 👍👍
It was Megadrive/Genesis Tetris - but yeah
