This pleases the spell nerd in me so much. Instead of just declaring "I cast XYZ" he manages to make the act of casting magic feel actually magical! Also, plotting in advance to future spells? Caleb is gonna go far kids.
I'm planning on doing this kind of spellcasting for NPCs when I start DMing. Describe what the Char does to cast the spell, then tell the players what was cast later, if they ask.

There may be a lot of Fjorester flirting, but that doesn't mean that that's an end-game ship. Travis is not a fan on in-game relationships, so Jester might move on to someone else. (Though, as cute as Widojest is, Liam has said Caleb isn't mentally prepared to have a relationship.) Hell, Beau has admitted to having a crush, they might go that route. The possibilities are endless! ^.^
I didn’t realise what the title meant until Caleb yelled “Does anyone have a glass bead?” and then I got super excited because I really love this spell. My bard character always has a lot of wooden, crystal, and sea-glass beads in her hair (which I didn’t realise would come in handy until after I designed the character).
I love that, technically, Caleb could've just produced a glass bead from his Component Pouch, but he makes it an interaction with the rest of the Nein to pull them into his casting.
Caleb kinda reminded me of this thing our Arcane Trickster pulled off an odd number of sessions ago. We were at a bar brain-storming on how to rescue a baron's daughter we lost to peryton, and our Arcane Trickster was not being much help. She was just going up and down like a yo-yo from her bedroom to our table to ask one of our Clerics who has a artisan jeweler for her background on how to keep crowns in a solid ring how to make holes in pebbles without them cracking in two. And seconds before the session ends and everyone calls it a night, the Arcane Trickster bursts out of her room runs down stairs like a ten year old on Christmas morning, wearing this makeshift crown made twigs and leaves and dead flowers with these little pebble chains dangling from it (the jeweler Cleric was visibly horrified by this) and she runs up to the table and goes "HEY LOOK WHAT I CAN DO!!!" and shoots her hands in the air and casts Hallucinatory Terrain and all of a sudden the inside of the bar is transformed into the inside of a jelly bean shop (she loves jelly beans)
A perfectly good use of resources. Rinds me of the time the druid and fighter (who was a noble) decided to cast awaken on our hafling rangers beast companion mastiff so then our gm had to rp being a giant dog with the personality of puppy. Heh good times.
After all the horrors that have beset the Mighty Nein over the last four episodes, that Caleb made them this little, protected haven to keep this dysfunctional family safe genuinely pulls on my heartstrings.
this scene broke me a little when i first saw it. that mischievous look he got on his face when he told the group he had a surprise, how he sneakily told jester only she could come in just to fuck with the rest of them, the way he jokingly pulled fjord into the hut. i think this was the most lighthearted we had seen caleb up to this point (not including liam goofing off out of character obviously). and to see that kind of growth right after a huge battle and all of the stress of lorenzo, it just made me so proud and so emotional.
I farted at the same time as caleb so I didnt actually hear it and had to rewind being confused as to why the cast of critical roll was reacting to my fart

I can’t find it, but did Caleb learn this spell before or after they were taken, did he learn this just to ensure nobody can be taken again? I think his actions speak volumes rather than his sort of awkward social situations.

It is Leomund's Tiny Hut, but it seems that Caleb has assumed it works similar to the Alarm spell, where creatures you designate when you cast it are free to enter and exit it.
Keg and Beau had been flirting some before this, so Caleb offers to make them a private side bubble in the tiny hut in case they want privacy, but Beau shuts him down.
dude chill its not that big of a deal, their campaigns have always had a lot of homebrew aspects. Its not just strictly the normal rules and that's it, its a mix of the rules plus their own homebrew stuff. Matt is the DM of their game and if he is fine with it then it's fine, if it wasn't he would have said otherwise.

Strictly speaking, they did this wrong. It doesn't work like Alarm so that Caleb can choose who is allowed to pass through. As written, only creatures and objects inside the dome's area when it's created can pass through it.
While strictly speaking that is correct but its such a minor change that doesn't add or really take anything away from the spell. Its a change I made in my home game I am running. Honestly I forgot that we made that change till now when you pointed it out and I went a double checked the wording lol
(1 year late) Matt talks regularly about DM Discretion and the rule of cool, where something may not happen to the book but it's up to the DMs discretion

This is Caleb's first time using the spell, and it is right after they rescued Yasha, Fjord, and Jester.
