- A Customized Cross Bones designed by John at Laidlaw's Harley-Davidson and built by Jamie Myers. John's vision was to keep the bike mostly stock but go all-in with blacking out all the components. Then set it off with an amazing custom paint set. Should Harley-Davidson bring back the Springer front-end? We think yes! What's your opinion.

Hell yeh they should bring back the Crossbones but with a 117 and special paint, I’d buy one or more.

I would love to see a Springer front end again! They look really cool! I wanted a Cross Bones when they came out, with a young family, I couldn’t afford one! Now I’m constantly searching to find one! I’d love to see Harley come out with the Cross Bones again, or some type of Softtail Springer setup!

That's awesome! The springer front end is my favorite front end for a Harley. I personally would love to see Harley davidson bring it back in the Heritage, The Slim, and the 883 Iron. I haven't seen a Cross Bones in a while. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.

Nothing could have made me happier than you making a Springer vid, and showing them so much love. I’m biased, but agree nothing outlooks my FXSTS and it gets lots of compliments often. Mostly because you just don’t see too many, but the looks are undeniable. His crossbones is absolutely stunning. Hell of a job man. Yes HD, bring one back. Don’t change it too much or suck it up and forget Europe if you have too. Edit: Matt, you should make a sequel to this. Explaining the stuff on the floor at the time and recent prior years. Back then it was Chrome and skinny front tires. This bike was so far ahead of its time in style, and the stories you can tell about that time would make an interesting video on it’s own.
Great video, Matt! I own a 2006 FXSTSI that is my pride and joy. 2006 was the first year Harley incorporated a 200 rear tire with the 2.15 front tire on the FXSTSI and then discontinued the fully chromed Springer front end after that year. The Motor Company made a CVO Springer in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and added, as you said, the Crossbones in 2008. The Crossbones used a blacked out Springer, much like the Bad Boy, but it had a 3.5 front tire. Fortunately, I have a good mechanic who recently tuned the front end and the bike rides like a dream.
I know this is a 5 year old video, but I just saw it for the first time today. John's Crossbones is beautiful. I hope he still owns it and takes as much pride in it as I take in my FXSTSI.
One of my favorite bikes. I think Harley needs to listen to the guys at Laidlaws and possibly even add a few of them to the design team.

I watch this vid over and over, thanks Matt for making it in the first place. I'll have a Cross Bones one day soon hopefully. I know you said the advent of compulsory ABS in some markets made H-D phase the Cross Bones out but I don't understand why? Surely disc brakes are disc brakes, I don't understand why the addition of ABS to the set up would make any difference? Perhaps one of your techs would know? (If you ever get to see this comment, I appreciate the video is a few years old now).

Matt, beautiful bikes. Yes they should. One thing that I admire about HD is the new technology incorporated into the iconic HD bikes. That old springer is a good example. i.e. - "If you keep it running you're doing good" - Now days they don't leak everywhere, so yes they should bring back the springer. They look great.
I had that exact FXSTSI Springer! A 2004 in two-tone blue/black. I was hit on it in 2006 and it was totaled. (I healed, but the bike didn't) The Springer has come and gone throughout the years. It is definitely time to bring it back! The Springer front end is instantly recognizable as H-D, even from a distance. Both those bikes are gorgeous (even the Pan Head). Really enjoy your videos, you and your dealership represent the brand very well.

I love my 2011 Cross Bones. Bought it new and I ride it constantly. I don't think HD will bring back the Springer but I wish they would. I'd buy another and have a nice pair.

I agree with you, the Slim backed out with a springer front end and a bobtail rear fender. HD promised 100’s of models over the next 10 years. We’ll see. Addicted to your videos, thanks so much for getting me through these non-riding months here in Massachusetts. And thanks for showing that a tall guy can ride a Street Glide.
When I'm back in the cash, I dream of changing my Rocker C front-end out with a Springer (shock assist) front-end. Love that 3 stack look the additional center shock gives the Springer.
If they brought the same de-raked springer from the Bones back, I'd buy it. Hell make it an option like the 117 across the softail line. The last Harley I bought was an 09 X-bones, I still own it and ride it. It's tired, but I doubt I'd buy anything that didn't have a springer on it.
Only got to ride a 08 once for around a 100 miles, what a fun Harley.

I always loved the Crossbones. It came out right after I bought my WG. I might not have gotten the Dyna. I would love to see them bring it back on a modern softtail frame it would be sweet.
They need to bring this back ASAP......I agree 100% with Matt's comment that this bike was launched ahead of its time. Pretty sure if HD brings in 2021a X-Bones version (with the black paint + 117 ) it would appeal to a wider crowd. Harley needs to pay attention to what customers really want buy.

I sold my Crossbones about a year ago. I do miss it! I'll never come across another one like it, but I'm looking for a street glide now.

Hi Matt, as if you stole my project I am preparing. I am actually planning to custom a 2019 slim to look like cross bones. I took the decision to keep the front end, just because of the reasons you mentioned . will change the rear fender with Bob fender, to get as close as I can to cross bones look. And on the tank will put the 30es flying eagle decals. So you imagine bro. Love and peace to you

Personally I would love to see Harley do a Night Train with a Springer front end. My first Harley was going to be a Springer in Black in 07 but I could not find one in Black so I purchased a FXSTC in black instead. All very nice bikes. Thanks again Matt for the great Vlogs.

One of my favorite bikes the factory has made.
I have a 2004 Heritage Springer it is a 1550 with stage 1 and I absolutely love it.I had the engine rebuilt a few years ago. The chain tensioners didn't get changed out and it ruined the motor. I can understand why HD phased it out with the ABS situation etc. I have 2020 Street Glide that I ride when we go on long rides. I ride my Springer on short rides and I love it. It is so Harley retro and you can't beat it.
Matt your right this bike will become iconic like the 2000 Heritage Springer bagger .... springers just ride so nice, front braking needs to improve..your guys sure have some nice bikes👍👍👍👀👀👀🍺🍺🍺

Thanks for the video! I personally would love for Harley to bring back the Springers! IMHO Harley is trying too much to "look" modern and is a mistake not to have the classic or heritage look in the lineup.. Aren't the best sellers of today "classic or heritage" inspired bikes like the Street Glide and the Road Glide? The FXSTSB Bad Boy was one the best looking Harleys to me, replaced as you say with a "modern" front end, by the Night Train (great bike too). Today you have made me proud of my Springers with your comments! I have an 1998 FLSTS Heritage Springer and a 2008 FLSTSB Cross Bones that I bought fresh off the oven as soon as they came out because I was/am in love with that bike's look!

Hi Matt never liked the Crossbones when it came out , but some of the earlier springers were really good looking bikes. The bikes in your vid are both superb looking bikes..

Yes absolutely Harley should bring back Springer front forks. John's bike looks great and so does that 2004 chopper version and the Heritage also looked good with it. But as well, I think the new softail slim would suit the Springer perfectly .

I have a 2001 FXSTS and love it (post customization). I agree that the Springer front end is the best looking for Harley's and would love to see it resurrected. I can see how ABS would be very difficult to manage on the Springer design. But apparently it can be made with a Girder design as on the big BMW's and Honda's. An exposed girder front fork would also look great!

I had a 2008 Crossbones while living overseas in the UAE. I could not get it into the US without making a bunch of expensive Mods to it, and end up shipping back to the UAE and sold it there. Since then, I've been wanting the Crossbones back for a long time.

I think you're exactly right Matt. The springer front end, updated to meet today's standards would sell better than in the past. I regret not buying a Crossbones back in the day. The whole dark look, old school style and the ride were spot on. I loved the springer seat.I think the rake on the bike was exactly right for good handling, not too stretched out. The bike was a good fit for me and I'm 6'2, 220lbs.

I loved my Springer, wish I'd never sold it, but I love my CVO Dyna too. I'd do a new model with ABS on the rear brake.

No new Springers. I ride a 2008 gloss black SE 110 xbones, the only one in Australia. 17000 kms. About 1200 mls. It's now worth double what I paid for it. Whwn it reaches the right price I'd swap it for a Shovel chopper any day. But there hard to find in Oz. Love your channel. XLiam

Yes! Re engineered but indistinguishable from this last examples. On a current Softail Slim. Would sell well. No crazy pricing would help. The Electra Glide Standard is a step in the right direction.
As a cross bones owner i am pro for bringing the cross bones and many other springers back it was also my first Harley Davidson and i just love the bike and still own it.
I have a slim s & would of loved to have installled.. I’m actually looking for a black Harley springer front end to install on it . I have military inspired version so will look great … just need to find one ..
