Happy Monday guys! Hope everyone is having an awesome Labor Day weekend. The timing of this truck worked perfectly as were flying out to a Plano, Texas today to see the all-new 2022 Tundra this week. What do you hope to see Toyota address on the new version and would you guys wait for the next generation or just buy this proven 2021 model?
I bought a 2021 Tundra at the beginning of June because it is my dream vehicle. There is nothing that I do for which I need a truck. I simply like the size and ride of the Tundra. I love driving around town aimlessly on warm summer evenings with the windows down.
that's its feature though, you will never find a fuel efficient pickup of that caliber. Power = fuel. so in other words, nothing bad about the Tundra :) I think its an oxymoron to have a fuel efficient pickup. They're meant for heavy-duty work and hauling trailers.
@@PWCDN It's a great truck and it tows anything we have asked it to. If gas prices go back down then we wouldn't complain about the fuel economy but at these prices it adds up. I'm looking forward to EV trucks that can tow like a diesel and charge it at home. My brother's house is full solar and not on the grid so charging an EV truck wouldn't cost a dime.
I bought this exact truck almost a year ago. 20k on her, cracked windshield, dirt everywhere, and we're both really happy on rough dirt roads. My dream truck and I hope I have it for ten more years!
My family has a 2014 Toyota Tundra limited with only 58,000 miles on it! Bought it brand new in June of 2014 and it still looks like a brand new truck cosmetically! Especially since it only has 58,000 miles on it. Basically it’s been my moms daily driver for the past 8 years to and from work and we live in a small town so that’s the reason of the low mileage. It’s been on a couple road trips but we usually take our Yukon Denali on the road trips. It still has decades of life left in it and it’s been a great truck! We have no desire to upgrade to a 2022. This generation tundra has been great. One unique and dumb idea would be if you had all the money in the world, you could buy the new generation tundra and engine swap the 5.7 V8 from the current generation tundra into the new one (if that’s even possible) that sounds like something I’d do if I had money to blow.
The smaller turbo engine used by other manufacturers actually has worst mpg because the turbo engine is working harder and forced to work almost all the time. Reliability and durability is compromised in those turbo, direct injection engines. Making customers believe that using a small engine in a big heavy truck will result less mpg in not true and purely a marketing tactics. They dont make them like they used to. Tundra was born in a time when vehicles are over built and made to last for a long time. You cant say that to the vehicles built nowadays in this disposable age.
Gotta say this truck is tough. My friends father had one and put 230,000 km on it still ran okay at the end of it's life. Mind you it did pull about 14,000 lbs every other day of it's life.
I am glad I have mine... 2008 Crew Max Limited. 172K miles on it. Runs like a champ. Come on Sofyan, let's be honest: 85% of trucks are used by Contractors. Hell, we beat them up; toss crap in it to go to the dump. We go to Home Depot. We get dents all over it. You know how many times I need to repair my tires from screws and nails it them??!! The interior gets dusty and dirty. At the end of the day, as long as the power windows work, the air conditioning blows cold and it starts every time we turn the key. You equate a truck like its a garage queen. I got it. You're lucky you get to always test the best of the best in each model you test. Must be nice. Most of us Contractors are lucky to get mid-grade trim truck. I'd rather get a truck that works for me. Not me working for my truck.
I have a the crewmax version of this truck and yeah the mpg is terrible but I don't mind it at all. I did figure out while driving about 1600 miles on i95 that it has a sweet spot for highway driving between 60-70mph it will average around 18 mpg but as soon as you get above 70-75mph it drops significantly to around 14mpg. I bought it for the long term reliability and capabilities not the fuel economy or gimmicks. I'll drive my Corolla to save money at the pump anyway.
My only complaint with this generation is the gas mileage. The EPA MPG numbers are right on. Both my 2019 Platinum and now my 2021 Platinum have averaged those numbers. That being said after I added the TRD Pro exhaust to my ‘21 I can’t imagine owning anything else. You just can’t beat the glorious sound of a V8 with a tuned exhaust. So there is that. Then there is the “massive” grill on the next gen that I have not warmed up to as of yet. The 2021’s grill is perfect imo. Great review Sofyan. All you said is true.
Yeah my father actually drives a '19 Tundra 1794 and my mother drives an old '06 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi with like 250k miles that she wont get rid of because it was the first car she ever bought brand new lol, and my dad has said more than once how he can't believe her old Dodge manages to get better gas mileage than his truck lol. Love the Tundra's V8 though, sounds better than the Hemi.
if I’m buying used, then probably yes, but if we’re talking about new then the new F150 and Ram are just so nice and look better and also are more efficent
Proud owner 2007 with 187.578 still got a lot pick up and go everything still in working conditions if anyone’s looking for used truck look no further check it out consumer report
@@XtruecanadianX Ram's 5.7 Hemi, Ford's 5.0L Coyote, and GM's 6.0L small block would all last just as long as this iForce 5.7L... @T-boe the first Somebody said it best on a comment I read the other day ''if you want a V8 but complain about fuel economy, you shouldn't even be driving'' 🤣
15:40. You said it right there. This is why the tundra is the best truck to buy period. It is $15,000-$25,000 cheaper than its competitors, and when you factor out the 2 to 3 miles to the gallon less that it gets then those competitors you would have to drive that tundra or 200,000 miles plus to make up for the entry cost on the other vehicles in gasoline. I have this exact truck in magnetic gray, and I have to say it is the best truck I have ever owned. You can get fancier with more electronics, but I’ve owned those and they always had problems down the road. This truck not only drives great with those fantastic Fox shox, but I towed 8,100 lbs two weeks ago for an entire week, and it towed it like a breeze still getting over 10 mpg. My city mpg is typically 15 and on the road is 17-18 if I am not putting my foot into it, So I am really surprised by how bad the gas mileage is that particular truck is getting. I wonder if it’s because it wasn’t broken and properly with everyone driving it the way you are in this video. I hope to have this truck forever and I never said that with my other trucks. Oh, I threw a set of nitto ridge grapplers 285/70/18 on it and it is so sexy.
The other trucks in this class aren't really much better anyway, the ram has a more refined ride that's the only thing I give her credit for, my friend had a 2015 and something happened with the fuel system but something EVAP/Fuel tank related and he ended up trading it in for 2020 because the repair was crazy expensive
Its not that bad, my dads got a 2021 4wd crew max and he can average 15 per tank with mixed driving and abit of towing. If you cruise on the hwy you can easily get 17mpg or slightly better. Just depends how you drive.
I bought 2021 tundra trd pro in black. Beautiful truck. Great performance. I bought it for its reliability. I don't care about bells and whistles. I could sell it right now and make at least ten grand on it. Can't do that with any other truck right now. I definitely don't like the new version coming out. Happy I got the 2021 for multiple reasons.
@@dave_riots I believe this truck will hold its value or even go up some considering the new one has the V6 and its butt ugly. These trucks are just so solid.
I say that Toyota keep the V8 and add a 10 speed trans to get better MPG. I believe there would be more maintenance costs, in the long run, with twin turbos.
I just bought the 1794 edition with upgraded wheel package, I freaking love it just the way it is. A little tradition is good...in my opinion. Not too worried about the bed size, that's what trailers are for. This a great review and gives a good overview of the upgrades. All the signs are saying most likely the new tundra won't have the v8. anybody wanting the v8 this might be your last chance. Also Sofyan great intro btw 10/10
This newer body style Tundra is a real disappointment. The current Tundras are beautiful. I really don't care that it's the same chassis since 2007. It's Toyota. They clearly did it right that they didn't need to update it much.
Yeah most double cab Tundras are SR or SR5 trim with not very many options. I’ve only seen a few limited trim double cabs and TRD Pro double cabs are very rare as well.
I 100 percent agree, imho, this coming model(s) for both the tacoma and tundra could potentially affect the prices of all previous year models, which is why I’m personally gonna wait till the release of the 22’s.
Everyone complains about the MPG but on my 2020 (21k miles) I consistently get 17-18. Recently took my daughter to the zoo 250 mile trip. Drove conservatively 65-70 mph most the time. 85 degrees running ac. Achieved 20.5 mpg. My point is the 5.7 tundra gets around 1-2 mpg less than the competitions V-8’s. So it’s really not that bad imo. Guys getting 10 mpg?? I don’t get that pulling my boat?
I’m on my second tundra with the 5.7 and get way better than people report. Maybe some are leaving it running while parked with the ac on to set up video equipment, followed by multiple 0-60 runs.
@@boughtandpaidforautoreview1150 I’ve found out a lot of guys that complain about mileage often put on big heavy oversized tires and/or drive hard. Yea that of course hurts mileage. If I drive and accelerate hard in the extreme cold winter I will get 13-14. But that’s still far from 10 mpg? But I’m driving a double cab SR5 4x4 with stock tires which is quite different from the truck reviewed.
Just sold my 2019 Tundra TRD PRO for what I paid for it brand new 2.5 years ago. Folks, sell your tundras now while they can still be sold for a great price.
I definitely prefer a v8 over a v6 any day of the week. You dont buy a truck cause of the gas miles. You buy it cause you like it and do small jobs with it. I have a totota camry if im worried about gas miles. My yukon which im replacing only gets 8-10 mpgs. So this getting 17 mpgs is an upgrade. 😅😅 Im also purchase this because they are gonna stop making v8s forever and this is the truck I want. Reliability and v8 power. And longevity
Holy crap, 10mpg? I'd have to go all the way back to my first car in high school to match those abysmal mpg numbers. It was a '68 Ford Galaxie 500 2 door with a 390 V8.
Nice truck,, seen these when I was on Holiday in Florida a few years back. They have never been sold here in the UK as a new vehicle from a Toyota dealer. Toyota Hi Lux is all we get ,and all Diesels too.
I wish I could afford one. I'd love one of these with that dual exhaust. I need a truck because I live on a rough dirt road, and I'd like to see a truck I can keep for 20 years or more, and I'd like something with that exhaust setup. The rumble of that V8 is hypnotizing; it's like the 5.0 Coyote on the F-150. But I'll settle for my 2005 Tundra. I'll be able to keep that for at least ten years :) Gotta live with whatcha got when you're just a man working at a homeless shelter.
@@naveenthemachine looks are subjective but the new tundra will have new modern interior not like the current interior which looks like its something from 2008. I dont know why they never refreshed the dated interior, reliability has nothing to do with design
There are very strong rumors that the top engine may be a diesel hybrid for the 2022 Tundra. Toyota USA posted a video to their UA-cam page about how diesel works.
440 miles on a 38 gallon tank is brutal. think a F-150 or others could maybe do 750+ miles on a similar tank size. that fuel economy was normal 10-15 years ago but isn't anymore.
Not even 10-15 years ago. I had an '04 Dodge Ram Hemi until a couple years ago that got terrible mileage too but still managed 18-19 on the highway consistently... I couldn't handle 10/14 MPG that would be a total dealbreaker.

I think the Nissan Titan only has one engine option too since they did away with the Diesel.
yep they only offer the 5.6L V8
It's a beautiful truck but the fact that gas isn't going down ever again is a huge factor why I won't be getting another Tundra.
Very Nice!
I love my first gen Tundra....can’t wait for the new one..( will there be an 8 ft bed option?)....
How’s that new turbo treating everyone at the pump? lol. The 5.7L was amazing and now you don’t get the reliability OR fuel efficiency with the turbo.
17-18 mpg? 😂 “why you always lying!”
@@czar2321 I’m not. Why you can’t write correctly?
@@boughtandpaidforautoreview1150 I’ve found out a lot of guys that complain about mileage often put on big heavy oversized tires and/or drive hard. Yea that of course hurts mileage. If I drive and accelerate hard in the extreme cold winter I will get 13-14. But that’s still far from 10 mpg? But I’m driving a double cab SR5 4x4 with stock tires which is quite different from the truck reviewed.
@@kross1261 true but I traded up from a Crewmax sr5 basic truck to TRD pro and didn’t notice a difference in mpg.
No gas guzzler tax?? Sheesh 12mpg-17mpg
Nope, bc it’s a truck. Trucks are exempt from a gas guzzler tax.
The Last of The Mohicans.
I thought the pro version only came out in a crew max 😮
Good track don't need all that fancy stuff.
Nissan Titan has standard V8 also
I have yet to see a next gen truck that doesn't look ugly as fuck imo and so far the next tundra doesn't seem to be exempt from that statement
Just sold my 2019 Tundra TRD PRO for what I paid for it brand new 2.5 years ago. Folks, sell your tundras now while they can still be sold for a great price.
I am
Fuel economy only negative on this old gal. Will last 700,000 miles 😲
9:10 I don’t understand why Toyota doesn’t include a back seat pocket on the driver seat, but the passenger seat does. That makes zero sense to me
Probably saves them half a cent per truck.
7:05 don't expect a huge upgrade.. the infotainment system was just updated to the latest version for 2020
Better than that new twin turbo v6
I definitely prefer a v8 over a v6 any day of the week. You dont buy a truck cause of the gas miles. You buy it cause you like it and do small jobs with it. I have a totota camry if im worried about gas miles. My yukon which im replacing only gets 8-10 mpgs. So this getting 17 mpgs is an upgrade. 😅😅 Im also purchase this because they are gonna stop making v8s forever and this is the truck I want. Reliability and v8 power. And longevity
Do you know what years you can get the trd Pro with a double cab? Thank you.
I get 17 mpgs per tank in mine. I do a lot of highway driving, but 14 mpgs is really bad. You have to have a heavy foot to do that badly.
True, if I drive mine like an old lady I get almost 18. Normally 15.5 to 16.
Love that color.
Holy crap, 10mpg? I'd have to go all the way back to my first car in high school to match those abysmal mpg numbers. It was a '68 Ford Galaxie 500 2 door with a 390 V8.
He gets inside
"As you can see nothing has changed..."
CarPlay...?
Nice truck,, seen these when I was on Holiday in Florida a few years back.
They have never been sold here in the UK as a new vehicle from a Toyota dealer. Toyota Hi Lux is all we get ,and all Diesels too.
It's funny that he keeps talking about it being an old design like it's a bad thing 😂
So does the trd pro come with 12 speakers?
I wish I could afford one. I'd love one of these with that dual exhaust. I need a truck because I live on a rough dirt road, and I'd like to see a truck I can keep for 20 years or more, and I'd like something with that exhaust setup. The rumble of that V8 is hypnotizing; it's like the 5.0 Coyote on the F-150.
But I'll settle for my 2005 Tundra. I'll be able to keep that for at least ten years :) Gotta live with whatcha got when you're just a man working at a homeless shelter.
I found a used one for only 66k 🤣🤣🤣💯🤦🏻♂️
god i cant wait for the redesign. This is basically putting makeup on a old woman, no amount of makeup can cover up the old. Time for new meat
Some have said the new tundra design outside is ugly
pics are already leaked out with no cameo
It's time for a new design anyway. Although, the new Tundra looks quite strange. I'm always gonna be an F-150 fan.
@@Unknownevanuser i like the look of the new f150 but i dont like spending money on domestic vehicles
@@naveenthemachine looks are subjective but the new tundra will have new modern interior not like the current interior which looks like its something from 2008. I dont know why they never refreshed the dated interior, reliability has nothing to do with design
Can you review the new 2021 Ford Bronco
I really want Toyota to make a new vehicle that would look like a Durango with this grill on the front that shit would be nice
There are very strong rumors that the top engine may be a diesel hybrid for the 2022 Tundra. Toyota USA posted a video to their UA-cam page about how diesel works.
It’s probably going to be overcomplex
@@naveenthemachine it might be but it’ll last forever.
@@johnjames7712 sure hope so. The hybrid battery cost will be pricey when it comes time to replace it 😬
Lets hope will ready for a all new 4th generation tundra
I'm going to wait for the new gen Tundra.
Is this for sale ?
Intro caught me off guard ☠
You also get the 5.7L V8 in the new Toyota Sequoia.
