That building at 5:50 is the church of St. Donat, and its from the 800s. It was actually built using ancient Roman columns and stones, making it even more fascinating. Very old and intriguing building.
Origins of Zadar are from 384 BC and that didn't stop English to level the city build of white Brace stone to the ground because Italians were still occupying this ancient Croatian city during WW2.
Zadar traces its origin to 9th-century BC which already in the 7th and 6th century BC. and it was an important center of the Illyrian tribe Liburni for which the port of Zadar was the starting point for numerous trade trips and a safe anchorage. The Liburnians were contemporaries of the Italic Etruscans and the Levantine Phoenicians. But the history goes further that that, the wider Zadar area has been inhabited since ancient times. The findings of this earlier culture date back to the Paleolithic, while in the Neolithic period archaeological excavations have identified numerous human settlements. On the outskirts of today's Zadar, such settlements were located in the area of Arbanasi and Puntamika. Before the settlement of the Illyrian tribes, this area was inhabited by the ancient Mediterranean people, from whose pre-Indo-European language the name of the settlement itself very probably originates - Jadera, Jadra or Jadr, which were later taken over by other civilizations what came to be. Greetings from sunny Zadar.
@@omicrontheta5956 It is all true, only i disagree with the term " Illyrian people", in Zadar and Kvarner region lived Liburni , they were much different than classical Illyrians who lived in Dubrovnik and Neretva area of Croatia, Montenegro bay Boka Kotorska , Budva , Bar and north Albania
@@mariozd971 "Illyrians" is a name for complete "group" of Indo-European/Arian tribes which have inhabited the western and interior of the Balkans since prehistoric times. Food is considerably cheaper than on the coast, and just as good, if not better. It's my hometown...miss it a lot.
Funny thing, I came across it today on the bus while searching for best villages of Croatia. It was on a list. When I checked where it was on the map, it was about 20 kms behind us. @@GabrielTravelerVideos Wow so cool! Holy smokes....let that sink in for a moment. You are totally flowing with the river current and you are exactly where you are supposed to be right now. You followed your heart, left California, and went on your latest journey, and even when so many people tried to steer you off your track you kept following your heart. My theory is when life feels like a struggle it means you are swimming upstream, going against the river flow. To me that shirt represents the current or flow of the river and your journey.
The gate dates from the period when this was a Venetian controlled city - above the gate is the Lion of St. Mark, Venice’s symbol. They owned it 1409-1797.
The winged lion in the archway is the symbol of St. Mark, the patron of Venice. So when you see that along the Adriatic it usually means it was built during the Venetian Republic days.

Beautiful Croatia
Don't use the Euronet ATM's. Use an ATM at a proper bank for a better exchange rate.
Oh wow that sounds.... day and night hummmmm interesting.
Beautiful video.
I like the old time Mexican music!
Check out the island of Pag, it has nice beaches and the town of Pag is very nice. From Novalja you can take a boat to Rab which is spectacular and generally work your way to the northern islands.
Gabriel getting very tan walking around in August.
Nice you were able to get out of the country during these times. Was that a mariachi band playing El Son De La Negra at the end?
Maybe it was the Croatian mariachi "Los Caballeros" from Zagreb :D... I was also surprised. VIVA MÉXICO CAB...!!!
Gabriel. Rules. !!!

Love how you are wearing the same shirt from your video 3 years earlier!! Very cool :-)
Holy sh!t, you're right. I hadn't noticed that, even though I watched the old video again. That's hilarious. It's a Chang beer shirt. I must have bought it when I was in Thailand the year before I filmed that other video, in 2016. I vaguely remember buying it in Chiang Mai.
I am from Zadar😁
Josip meni je Split prelip grad.. možda zato sto san se zasitila Zadra .. uvik su ti drugi gradovi zanimljiviji..
Nice. Which camera are you using here? Video looks good.
DJI Osmo Action. Link below the video.
I wanna go
The gate dates from the period when this was a Venetian controlled city - above the gate is the Lion of St. Mark, Venice’s symbol. They owned it 1409-1797.
Croatian alphabet has only one sound for each letter. Letter C is pronounced tz like in tzar.

Good to know, amazing.
The winged lion in the archway is the symbol of St. Mark, the patron of Venice. So when you see that along the Adriatic it usually means it was built during the Venetian Republic days.
It usually means built during that rule, but they were also added to existing buildings.
Amazing.
Does anyone know where I will find a really good guide on how and in what order I should do Croatia I have about 3 weeks ... Thankyou in advance !! X
