    hi! let me know what tools are your favorite if you use this app 🎵.
    if you don’t, what kind of app do you use to have your music on an iPad?

    I use stamps, but most of them are done in red to make them stand out. For example, ANY time I miss a note because I forgot the accidental earlier in the bar, it gets a red accidental. Then later, if after learning the piece well enough that I don't need that extra accidental, having it in a different color makes it clear I can just erase it.

    Thank for the video. I play classical guitar with a quartet. I really like Forescore with the IPad because I have poor vision due to glaucoma. The backlight helps and I can make notes on scores. I tried using a pedal to turn pages but I never got used to it. Now I just turn pages with my fingers. This works Ok if I memorize the last measure so I turn the page early and play from memory for one measure on the next page. Thanks again for the video. I hope this comment is useful to someone who reads it.

      Hi, I’m happy you found this video useful!
      When I first started using the pedal it was the most annoying thing ever. The coordination seemed so impossible, like I’m already using so much energy to play the notes, I have no time to think about my foot. To get good at it, I downloaded a lot of easy songs and thought of the tapping on the pedal as part of the performance. Got used to it after about four months. I’m still scared of it when I play big concerts and always ask if my stand partner would do it instead of me. They usually say yes. So grateful.
      Wishing you a lot of beautiful experiences performing with the quartet. Being able to play an instrument is such a gift!

    You did a very nice job with this video. My only suggestion would be to slow down a little and tell us what button you are pushing to go from one page or function to another I really appreciate you work and your efforts.

      Thank you so much for being so kind! I made this a while ago and now, when I watch it, I’m bothered by so MANY things myself.
      I’m planning to film a more detailed video soon where I’ll make these adjustments:
      - no background music
      - way slower speaking and pushing buttons
      - no more random zoom ins and outs 😂
      Ahhh probably some other things as well.
      For now, i’m just leaving this video on UA-cam because many people still find it useful even with its flaws.

    Thank you for this detailed overview of your workflow. I just got an iPad and I’m considering whether to start with forscore or newzik.
    For my purposes (solo guitar), it looks like your workflow would do everything I need so I’m going to start with forscore.

    • @tavifagascon
      @tavifagascon  10 місяців тому +1

      that’s so good to hear! i’ve never heard about the newzik, but will definitely check it out.
      all my friends in classical music world use forScore, it could be because the team that owns the app are constantly listening to their costumers and update settings.
      here are the things that i left out:
      - once you have a lot of music in it, you can back it up, so in case something bad happens, you will always be able to put the music back and not lose everything (i never did this, just because i haven’t moved all my music in it yet)
      - when creating setlists, there is also an option of creating albums than contain setlists. helps a lot with organizing.
      - the app always has the option to have a person lead, like if everyone has an iPad and a forScore, only the lead person turns the page and then everyone has it turned automatically (pretty cool for a youth orchestra, but it would drive me crazy not to be in control of my own music)
      - when you go to settings, you can also change some shortcuts that your Apple Pencil has, like what happens when you double tap, or have one tap etc.
      i think this is it, if anything comes up i’ll add. but again, i just wanted to show what i usually use in the app - not everything the app can do (bc i honestly still dont know everything about it)

    Thank you for all these helpful tips; they've been incredibly useful! I've been using this app for a few months now, and it has completely transformed my daily routine. While I initially enjoyed using my original paper method, I've found that this app is far more effective in every aspect.

      I totally agree with you! I play everything from it except orchestra auditions’ material (excerpts + concertos). Some orchestras allow iPads but some do not. This is why I just use the iPad for everything else just to stay consistent.

  • @backpacker3421
    @backpacker3421 8 місяців тому +2

    I have the same pedal and agree with everything she says here. There's no feedback (clicky feel), so if you are using split page and intensely focused on the bottom of the page where you are reading the music, it can be hard to tell whether it even turned the page at all until you look up. It also requires a fair amount of force to trigger. Not excessive, but enough that turning the page is not all that subtle if you are seated. Also, the pedals are just close enough together that unless you keep your foot on the pedal all the time, it's hard to feel confident you are going to press the correct pedal without looking down to check.
    With some practice, you get the hang of it, so I'm not sure it's necessarily worth the cost to upgrade (which is why I still use it), but if you are searching out which pedal to buy, I'd say spend the extra to get the one she recommends. I have friends who have that one, and I've tried it, and it is a much better experience.

    • @tavifagascon
      @tavifagascon  8 місяців тому +2

      Ahhhh you literally described how I feel playing with this pedal ahahaha! I totally agree that you can get used to it, but it constantly feels so risky performing with it. This is why I always ask to use somebody else’s pedal.

      UPDATE: Since leaving this comment, I have updated to the Airturn DUO 500. Same company, just the next level up. Much better. There is just enough physical movement of the pedal to give me a confident amount of feedback, and I don't really ever miss a turn as a result. It is more expensive for sure, but worth it, IMO. And the battery life is incredible. I used it for two weeks, several performances, many rehearsals, and lots of practice, nearly 100 hours of use, and the app showed that it still has around halfway charged. Pretty amazing.

      Just know that the iPad stand is very light. It is perfect for an iPad but a heavy camera or a microphone won't be safe on it.
      You can also check out their official website in case you find a better option there. But do notice that sometimes they sell only some parts instead of the whole stand:

      I’m honestly not super familiar with this, but, let’s try this:
      • tap the open page in forScore
      • tap on the little line on top right corner (it is right next to the search bar)
      • once you are there you have tons of options to choose from, so click on the letter - that will allow you to type.
      • once you typed in the word, look on bottom right where you have the “Aa” sign. tap on it, it will give you options to change the size as well as the font.
      ahhh, I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the video. How do I close a piece of music and retain it in the library?

    • @tavifagascon
      @tavifagascon  3 місяці тому

      I’m so happy you found this video useful!
      Once you open something in forScore it just saves it automatically in the app. On your top left there is a note symbol, if you click on it, it’ll give you the option to click on ‘all scores’ - this is where you’ll find all the music you saved in it (you ever opened in the app).
      I don’t think there is a way to close a certain piece of music, I simply move on to the next song that i want to play, or leave the app and come back to the same piece I played last.
      I hope this helps

    Any idea how to do this in Windows? I tried just using Acrobat Reader and a pointer made for powerpoint presentations but all it does is scroll instead of flip the page. Not going to buy a tablet and instead would like to simply replace the note standard on my piano with an ultrawide monitor I have extra. I'd only need to be able and flip pages in one click, not rearrange them or anything.

    Hi there,
    Loved the information, but not the many many video editor cuts that make a movie stuttering. It is really annoying for musicians, especially those who have to deal with things like perfectionism, ADHD or just plain authism. Haha.... But still I do sincerely thank you so much for sharing this!

      Thank you for your feedback. For my next educational videos I’ll definitely leave out cuts as well as turn down the volume of the music. I’m so new to UA-cam and still learning how best to edit these types of videos.
      I guess, I had in mind that these days, everyone watches Shorts/TikTok/Reels where everything moves by so incredibly fast. I thought that if I make such a long video, it better be feeling like I’m not wasting your time at all - this is why I had so many cuts. And believe me that took eight extra hours of editing alone. I’m actually happy to hear that editing videos at a slower paste will be very welcomed and watched. It will save me so much time! But will definitely be 30-40min long instead of 25min.
      Thank you
