  • This wonderful tribute song was originally written by Jim Anglin, the brother of Jack Anglin of Johnnie & Jack fame.. The story line dates to WW2, & Jim Anglin later sold it to Acuff/ Rose publishing Co, with Roy, Hank, and so many others recording it over the years. This version folks by Doc & Chickie we've always enjoyed, with Doc himself adding the names of the Battles to increase it as a tribute to all wars. Many years ago attending a funeral at Arlington of a Sailor we knew, there was also a Marine Colonel that spoke there, who was very well versed in terms of battles and losses in war.. He said instead of searching for the grave of a loved one, try just closing your eyes, turning around and throwing the wreath in the air..Whichever grave it lands at, that's where you kneel & pray.. Each and every grave is equal and all is worthy of it.. I never forgot what he said folks, and feel it certainly blends with this song now.. We indeed thank you friends, & do enjoy it.. !!!
