For me the biggest surprise was The Menu, didn't think much of it before I saw it but for me it's the second best movie of the year behind Top Gun Maverick, The Black Phone surprised me too. Biggest dissapointment is Halloween Ends, the ending of a franchise and the main antogonist of the whole franchise is barely in it... Great picks though!
Fun Fact : Originally, The Menu was supposed to be Downsizing Sequel directed by Alexander Payne again from his original idea. But Fox Searchlight pictures apparently hated how Alexander Payne worked.
Underrated: Thirteen Lives, Confess Fletch, Vengeance, Fall, The Cursed/Eight For Silver Surprising: Smile, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Disappointing : Men, Jurassic World Dominion, Halloween Ends, Cha Cha Real Smooth
Dam bro, I missed Jurassic Park Dominion at theater, so bought the bluray to watch for my first time tonight and now you've got me thinking I'll be putting my Top Gun Maverick bluray on halfway through it lol seen it 4 times though already, twice at cinema.
I grew up watching Halloween 1978, H2 and Christine on VHS when I was a kid...I like Ends more than most but I can admit it's a strange movie...Glad you enjoyed Christine...
Most Disappointing: 1. Thor Love and Thunder 2. Deep Waters 3. Lightyear 4. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 5. Turning Red Surprising: 1. Fantastic Beasts the Secrets of Dumbledore 2. Downton Abbey: A New Era 3. Avatar: The Way of Water 4. Scream (2022) 5. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers Most under-watched: Top Gun: Maverick, that movie bombed and surprised everybody hated it…Jk. I wish more people watched The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent that movie was awesome!
@P$YCH0 Bunny I get that part. But I watched the first movie for the first time back in late November (like 2.5 weeks before the movie came out). So I'm brand new to this world of Pandora. And I just wasn't expecting much going into this movie, I expected it to be good and entertaining. But this is like a top 5 movie of the year. I'm a big MCU fan, and it still kind of shocks me that Avatar 2 is better then any MCU movie to come out this year. That's why it's surprising to me, I'm a new fan to this franchise.
@@RJCXDOfficial Just as a Pixar movie it's bottom tier. I get disappointed when Pixar delivers medicore/forgettable movies. They are one of the best film studios out there.
I was most surprised by Top Gun Maverick, Chip n Dale, Prey, One Piece Film Red, and Puss in Boots The Last Wish. Some of these are my favorite movies of the year and two are in my top 20 of my favorite movies ever. The most disappointing for me was pretty much every MCU movie (yes even Wakanda Forever, after everyone told me I would love it and restore my faith in the MCU), Turning Red, Lightyear, Jurassic World Dominion, and Halloween Ends.
Oh forgot to add Disenchanted as a disappointment, and The Bad Guys, Minions, and Avatar The Way of Water as surprises. I did not expect to give Avatar an 8/10 nor put it in my top 15 favorite movies of the year. Clearly, I wasn’t a fan of Disney this year lol. Also, for One Piece, I knew I would at least like the movie, but never did I expect for it to end up in my top 20 favorite movies ever. I’ve seen it at least three times, twice in the theater, and I’ve only loved it more and more since. Never would I have thought that could have happened…
@@zackyyyy007 I wasn’t surprised because I knew it would be phenomenal by the trailers and I definitely wasn’t disappointed in it. So it doesn’t go in either category 👍 it’s my third favorite movie of the year
Rescue Rangers was one of the best multiverse films ever but Puss in boots 2 takes the cake for the best film of this year. But NEXT year will be LEGENDARY
Was not expecting to enjoy Top Gun: Maverick as much as I did, given the fact that I thought the original was just ok. Sonic 2 was fantastic, better than the original for sure. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent solidified Pedro Pascal as one of my favourite actors, I loved his and Nic's dynamic in the film, it was a hilarious watch, as was The Lost City. Oddly enough the disappointments for me were the MCU films I went to see, Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder. The Batman on the other hand, was fantastic, loved how it really used cinematography and tone to make it unique. Loved it. 2022 was a very enjoyable year for movies imo, felt like a return to form after two turbulent years for cinema. Really excited for 2023's movies!
2022 certainly was a year of surprises and disappointments. Surprises: Chip and dale, avatar 2 (yes you read that right), hocus pocus 2, both dreamworks movies, the black phone, weird, Disappointments: Every Disney animated film (including Pixar) disenchanted, JW dominion, black Adam, Thor LAT I’m sure there’s more for both but these stick out to me first
For me here’s my year roundup Best: the Batman Worst: dominion (also most disappointed) Most surprising: the bad guys (also most underrated) Most anticipated movie of 2023: Mario bros or ant man 3 or John wick 4
Missing an 'eye enn jee' there bud. For me The Northman, Prey and Puss in Boots 2 were the biggest positive surprises for me this year, wasn't expecting much from any of them. Biggest disappointments for me were Halloween Ends and Love and Thunder.
Disney/Marvel/Pixar was a host of disappointments this year for me. Lightyear and Thor 4 were my most anticipated and they sucked so bad. Their TV shows weren’t any better.
Biggest surprises for me were both Pearl and X, Terrifier 2, Prey, and Scream 5. Biggest disappointments were Thor Love + Thunder, The Black Phone, Men, and Nope. As for underrated I’d give it to Hellraiser, The Adam Project, and Multiverse of Madness
Biggest surprises: Avatar: The Way of Water (wasn’t expecting it to be so great) Guillermo del Toro Pinocchio Fantastic Beasts 3 Chip ‘n Dale Biggest disappointments: Thor: Love and Thunder Lightyear Jurassic World Dominion
Most surprising: Top Gun: Maverick Most underrated: Thor: Love and Thunder and A Christmas Story Christmas Most disappointing: The Gray Man Thor: Love and Thunder was not disappointing to me because I had a lot of fun with it. It also is pretty rewatchable for me. However, I understand why many think it is disappointing.
Fr i think the whole mcu hate train just made the movie out to be complete garbage. Me and all my friends enjoyed it. Its not a great movie but its a entertaining one, a typa movie you shut your brain off too
I Actually Really Like Your List And I Didn't Love Thor: Love And Thunder, But It's Still A Fun Movie. Anyways Here's My List Most Surprising: The Black Phone, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Chip And Dale Rescue Rangers, X, Pearl, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Doctor Strange Multiverse Of Madness, Nope, Bullet Train, The Menu, Barbarian, Terrifier 2, Violent Night, Puss In Boots The Last Wish, Werewolf By Night, Turning Red, Most Disappointing: Halloween Ends, Black Adam, Thore: Love And Thunder, HellRaiser, Smile,
Jeepers creepers reborn was the worst and most disappointing movie for me this year. I was hoping it would bring the franchise back but it just killed it.
At the start of the year I thought light-year and Thor 4 would be my favorite, I went into an existential crisis when them missed the mark, then I saw Weird the Al yankovic story and all was right with the world
Biggest surprises: Matilda the Musical(one of my favorite films of the year and an absolute delight), Weird: The Al Yankovic Story(A thoroughly entertaining film that went in a completely different direction than what I expected), Sonic the Hedgehog 2(A massive step up from the first movie and very entertaining), Jerry and Marge Go Large(Not fantastic, but a fun and likable film), Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers(A funny and entertaining movie with some clever comedy), and The Banshees of Inisherin(I thought it was gonna be kind of dull, but it was not only compelling, but it was pretty funny as well) Underwatched-Violent Night(This was a wildly entertaining Christmas movie), Hustle(The best Adam Sandler movie I've ever seen), and A Christmas Story Christmas(This is absolutely a worthy followup to the original and much better than it had any right to be) Disappointments-Halloween Ends(A nonsensical conclusion to the franchise that disrespects the mythos of the franchise), Jurassic World: Dominion(I wasn't super hyped for this movie, but it was still bad), Father of the Bride(Not terrible, but very forgettable), Strange World(Because they didn't market this movie at all, I wasn't that excited, but I wish it was so much better, because there's some okay ideas, like the end twist, but it plays it so safe and I took issue with the conflict between the family), Multiverse of Madness(It was disappointing when I first saw it, because it didn't deliver on the promise of the trailers, but it got better on rewatch), and Lightyear(This movie is bad. It's forgettable, it peaks in the first 20 minutes, the characters are dull, the messaging is on the nose, it makes no sense with the established canon, and the villain twist makes no sense. It's one of my least favorite animated movies of the past several years)
@The Film Watcher the one in the hallway all over the internet It's funny everyone is doing the Wednesday dance and no one is brave enough to even touch these kids
It was, for me at least. I don’t think it’s a bad film, I think it’s decent at best. Decent at best wasn’t what I was expecting tho, especially after the countless reviews praising it and guarantees from people who had seen the film. I dunno, just wasn’t for us I guess. The Boseman moments were still beautiful tho…
Biggest Suprises 5-25-77 Ambulance Avatar The Way of Water Black Panther Wakanda Forever Adams Project Biggest Dissapointments Morbius Uncharted Turning Red Most Underwatched Glass Onion : a Knives Out Mystery Death on the Nile Black Adam Fablemans Weird Al the Movie 5/25/77
I never thought I'd say this, but I guess I'll have to check out Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers! The most surprising film for me was RRR and the most disappointing was Amsterdam.
Deep Dive (Surprises): Chip N’ Dale: I thought this would be a forgettable, corny movie, but it turned out to be an intriguing mystery and fun hi-jinx Sonic 2: I enjoyed the original so I wasn’t skeptical but I had no idea it’d be as epic as it was Top Gun Maverick: I joined very late to the party so I knew about it’s awesome reputation, but I thought it wouldn’t be for me because the original Top Gun was just ok to me, but it was just such a fun film Weird the Al Yankovich Story: I knew it’d be weird, but I had no idea how weird it was gonna get so bonkers Andor: The character brought no interest to me, I thought they’d lost their minds announcing it, but then I saw the trailer, realized what it was, and just thoroughly enjoyed every part about it
My most surprising movie of this year was Puss In Boots 2 and for most disappointing for me is Thor 4 and for underrated for me might have to be Sneakerella. The story isn’t perfect it’s pretty predictable but the talent on here is great and the acting is decent some betters then others
It's an odd pairing, but I was pretty surprised with how much I enjoyed The Menu and Turning Red. The Menu felt like a weird combination of ingredients (funnily enough) that worked very well, while I had heard lots of middling reviewers for Turning Red and enjoyed it a ton.
My top surprises and disappointments (Surprises) Chip N’ Dale, Sonic 2, Top Gun Maverick, Weird the Al Yankovich Story, Andor (Disappointments) Moonfall, Obi Wan Kenobi, Doctor Strange 2, Thor Love and Thunder, My miss in The Batman
Hey Sean, idk if you'll see. This. But I have a story about the weird al movie. I was in it. They had to record a scene at a weird al concert i was at in July. Al himself took the audio of us, as a crowd in Nebraska to use in the film for a scene. It was the scene where he was talking to the crowd about his dad saying is that what you want and the crowd screaming no!
Judging by what you said about the Russo bros new film and also cherry I feel like they need to stop living off the reputation of what they did with the mcu and disappear from making movie for a few years and then come back with something incredible (The mcu should probably also do the same thing) This is of course all my opinion
My biggest surprise this year was definitely The Black Phone, I love horror and Ethan Hawke but I really wasn’t that interested in the movie until I saw some good reviews so I decided to just watch it anyway. And wow, this movie was absolutely amazing! Great concept, amazing characters and acting, and obviously really scary! My biggest disappointment this year was actually pretty hard because I loved most movies this year but it would have to be Jurassic World Dominion. Now I definitely don’t hate this movie or think it’s the worst of the year or anything, but as a huge fan of the Jurassic Park/World franchise, But I was super disappointed. I loved the concept of dinosaurs now roaming the full earth so I was extremely excited for this movie but instead of seeing all of the cool dinosaurs we got more labs and scientists, and locusts! I was also not a fan of the ending as I don’t think it concluded the story very well. Anyways thank you for reading and remember this is just my own opinions :)
One of the best movies I saw this year was also the most underrated one imo. It's The Outfit. I hear pretty much no one talking about it. It is a great movie though with an amazing performance once again from Mark Rylance. I think I will watch him in anything from now on.
Great list: My most disappointing movies are: 1. Thor Love and Thunder: first Taika Waitiki movie I did not love, and not even did I not love it, I hate it to its core. 2. Jurassic World Dominion. Just a waste, I was really looking forward to seeing the old characters, but they did nothing with them. 3. Moonfall. This might just be my bad for expecting a more fun movie. 4. Amsterdam. The trailer looked like a lot of fun, and there are so many great actors in there. Unfortunately the movie is vague more than anything else. Most surprising movies: 1. Bones and All. Liked it way more than I was anticipating. 2. Uncharted. Expected a trainwreck, but ended up having fun with it. 3. Woman King. Had quite high expectations, but this one blew me away, incredible movie.
Sean, wanted to throw out a movie recommendation in case you haven't heard, but there's an indie heist comedy released earlier this month called FOUR SAMOSAS. It's about an aspiring rapper who attempts to stop his ex-girlfriend's marriage by robbing her rich father of the diamonds used to pay for her wedding. Set in Artesia, the Little India, of Los Angeles, it also features Karan Soni (Dupinder from Deadpool) as the fiancee. Think Wes Anderson mixed with early Kevin Smith but with a South Asian flavor and you'll have an idea of the movie's vibe!
Biggest Surprise:- Prey (FINALLY! A good Predator movie after almost 35 years) Biggest Disappointment:- Thor: Love and Thunder (We've already given enough crap to this movie already so I'll just leave it here)
Best 1. Top Gun Maverick 2. Spiderman No Way Home (saw it earlier this year still in cinema, loved it) Anticipated and seeing at cinema soon, Puss In Boots 2, Avatar 2. Avoided, no interest in seeing Thor Love N Thunder, Dr Strange. Overrated - The Batman. And not seen but about to on Bluray Moonfall & Jurassic Park Dominion which despite film snobbery, I'm hoping to enjoy for big dumb fun.
Barbarian is my favorite movie of the year. It's so refeeshing to watch a film and literally have no clue where things are going. Like I had no idea what was gonna happen in the next 5 minutes, let alone the whole film
Top Gun: Maverick was easily the biggest surprise. I didn’t like the first and didn’t even plan on watching it, then every person I knew said it was really good. I saw it, and it became my favorite movie of the year (but I found this year to be rather weak cinematically I was disappointed by a lot of films)
Deep Dive (Disappointments): Moonfall: I was expecting a film that would just be dumb fun, but it was way too far fetched, way too serious and so boring Obi Wan Kenobi: I liked the show, and I loved some of the moments, but I did not like some of the poor execution Doctor Strange 2: I felt like I got 10% of what was promised, so I only got 4 short cameos, including Bruce Campbell, and 3 bits of multiversal hi-jinx, but I expected so much more Thor Love and Thunder: It just went way too over the top and spoiled the fantastic ideas just to deliver goat screams and split kicks My miss in The Batman: Batman is my favorite DC character, I love mystery stories, and the tone of the movie seemed perfect to me, and I never was given the opportunity to watch it 😢
@@ralphpalTo be perfectly honest, I’m only 13 and I’m still living with my parents, and my parents were on the edge on me watching it, so unfortunately I was never given the opportunity to watch what was claimed to be the best comic book movie of the year
As soon as you said surprising movies I new that there would be lots of horror movies. There’s also lots of similarities between Jurassic world dominion and Halloween ends
This year in 2022 I seen movies that were amazing and some were disappointing like Thor love and thunder, I was really excited for this film but when I watched it, man Disney ruined another marvel movie again. The action was kinda messed up too much joke and goofiness I mean the director should have done it so much better like he did in Thor Ragnarok, so I don’t why he messed that up. It became a romantic comedy, but you literally have a villain that is a god killer and a best actor unfortunately we don’t have much screen time of him which is disappointing, I feel like this movie should’ve have been a scary movie instead of a romantic film because you have a villain that is so scary. There are some movie that actually surprised me like minions rise of gru, Top Gun Maverick, Sonic The hedgehog 2, The Batman, and The bad guys. Out those movies I saw that surprised me the most was the Bad Guys I don’t if you have seen it but it’s a wild heist adventure animated movie I have ever seen, if you have a chance to see it share your thoughts with us and tell you think. Also these week I might have a chance to see the avatar way of the water hopefully I get to see and later on I’ll see puss in boots the Last wish I know everyone is saying it’s one the best Dreamworks movie out there so I’ll go out a watch it another time.
Amazing- Batman Surprising- Werewolve by night Good- Wakanda Forever Underrated- Doctor Strange 2 Decent- Black Adam Disappointing But Had Really Good Moments- Halloween Ends and Kenobi Bad- Morbuis Really Bad- Thor 4 Others- Amazing -Spiderman No Way Home: (Watched it in 2022 before the fun stuff version) Haven't watched Avatar and Puss and boot
My biggest surprise was Top Gun: Maverick. I felt with modern Tom Cruise action movies, it probably was going to be fine, but a sequel coming decades after the predecessor, a legacy sequel, that has been a point of contention with those kind of films nowadays, but it managed to exceed every expectation and come out on top. My biggest disappointment was Turning Red............ ...............'s review by Sean Chandler 😅
I didn't see a lot of new movies this year, but I think I can still give one per category. Most surprising: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness I completely understand the criticisms that people have, but I love how they used the multiverse to develop the character of Doctor Strange. Most underrated: Black Adam Tons of fun, pretty funny, had some fun characters, but it's just a shame that the villain sucked. Most disappointing: Lightyear I was hoping for a really good movie, but I got something that was okay. That's not bad by any means, but when it's in the Toy Story franchise, I don't expect a cinematic masterpiece, but at least greatness. This just felt like all the intrigue left once Buzz teamed up with Izzy and the way they handled Zurg was cool until the plot twist.
For me, the biggest surprises were The Bad Guys, Spirited, and Along for the Ride (which I was an extra in). The biggest disappointments were The Lost City (in my opinion), Jurassic World Dominion, and Halloween Ends
Disappointment: Halloween Ends. They really stuffed this trilogy up and it's a shame as 2018 was such a surprise. Surprise: Black Phone. I saw trailer in scream and thought it could be alright and then forgot for months. When finally watched it was amazing
Most surprising Lyle Lyle Crocodile Scream The Lost City Everything Everywhere all at once Puss in Boots: The Last Wish The Woman King Father of the Bride Most disappointing Thor: Love & Thunder Amsterdam Don't worry darling Moonfall Disenchanted Most anticipated movies of 2023 John Wick 4 Scream 6 Shazam: Fury of the Gods Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning part 1 Spider-man: Across the Spider Verse Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbird and Snakes Oppenheimer Dune part 2 Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom
Most disappointing was Avatar 2 (its my second least favorite movie of year) Idk about most surprising but I did watch the Star Wars sequels for the first time this year and actually liked TFA and TLJ (rise of skywalker was awful though) so I guess if those count I’ll go with those
Top Gun: Maverick is the biggest surprise of 2022 for me. I mean, I love Tom Cruise and his films but I wasn't the biggest fan of the first Top Gun. I thought the film was Good and that was that. I wasn't even that excited for Maverick. But Holy Fuck, This film is a Masterpiece. One of the Best films I've ever seen. I watched it on opening day and I have seen over 50 films that released in 2022 since then and It is still the #1 on my list.
Biggest surprise: "X", "The Menu", "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" and "Scream 5" Most disappointing: "Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio" and "Uncharted" Underrated/Under-watched: "Good Luck to You, Leo Grande" and "Vesper"
My 5 Surprising Movies My 5 Disappointing Movies 5. Barbarian 5. Beast 4. Ticket to Paradise 4. Choose or Die 3. The Adam Project 3. Strange World 2. Elvis 2. Thor Love & Thunder 1. Puss in Boots 2 1. Jurassic World Dominion
Best Movies this Year: The Black Phone The Batman Avatar:The Way of Water Top Gun 2 Most Underrated: Nope Doctor Strange 2 Halloween Ends (Doctor Strange 2 and Halloween Ends we’re just ruined for people because of how high the hype was for it) Knives Out 2 Hustle Scream 5 Overrated/Worst of 2022:SPOILERS Black Panther 2 (disappointed on how ruined it was by politics, it was stupid that Namor killed the mom yet Shuri became friends with him at the end) Black Adam Lightyear Jurassic World: Dominion
Most Surprising 5. Sonic The Hedgehog 2-Didn't think they do a sequel that would be good let alone surpass the original 4. Prey-After "The Predator" I wasn't thinking this was good but man did it literally blow me away by how they did it 3. Minions 2 Rise of Gru-Ok last franchise film this was actually funny and made me really laugh unlike the first film and was pretty good 2. The Bad Guys-I'm going to be real I thought DreamWorks was going to be dumb with this movie and be lazy but man was I wrong and it was awesome to be watching 1. Lifemark-This was a film that I didn't know anything about and it leaves you with a smile and a very cheerful life Most Disappointing 5. Almost every Disney Movie-I'm cheating here I thought Disney, Pixar, and MARVEL really were lacking here and they were pathetic (ex. Lightyear, Strange World, and Thor 4) 4. Bodies, Bodies, Bodies-No offense to anyone I thought this film was mid I didn't find it funny or really liked it 3. Jurassic World Dominion-Really Universal you made this movie horrible and seriously I just wished they stuck to a plot where the archeologists are trying to stop the Dinosaurs but they didn't 2. Halloween Ends-Man I was really hoping this movie was just going to be a simple win but bc of an added character and other bad plot devices I just thought the movie wasn't good 1. Blacklight-I was hoping for a pretty solid Liam Neeson film only to get this bland and pathetic mess
Biggest surprises: Chip N Dale The Menu Barbarian Prey Bullet Train The Outfit Push in Boots: The Last Wish Biggest Disappointments: Strange World The Batman Lightyear Halloween Ends Black Adam

Nah you’re not lots of other people out there loved it too even some of my friends. It’s enjoyable in some parts, but for me, I was expecting something much more different. I also wasn’t expecting bugs to be the center stage of a dinosaur movie. Regardless, we each got our taste, glad you liked it that much man 👍
@@NinthShinigami I do understand what you mean there were parts that should've been cut from the movie I agree I really enjoyed the nostalgia of having the 3 actors back from the previous films and having them interact with the other characters and i liked the dinosaur stuff which was fun I really liked all of that it gave me what I wanted but yes I do agree with you there are things that could've and should've been cut it doesn't stop my enjoyment from the movie tho

For me the biggest surprise was top gun maverick and the biggest disappointment was jurassic world dominion

Disappointing : Men, Jurassic World Dominion, Halloween Ends, Cha Cha Real Smooth
In the middle of watching Jurassic World in the theater I ended up going into a different theater room playing Top Gun😂
Dam bro, I missed Jurassic Park Dominion at theater, so bought the bluray to watch for my first time tonight and now you've got me thinking I'll be putting my Top Gun Maverick bluray on halfway through it lol seen it 4 times though already, twice at cinema.
😂😂good choice that saved your night
I grew up watching Halloween 1978, H2 and Christine on VHS when I was a kid...I like Ends more than most but I can admit it's a strange movie...Glad you enjoyed Christine...
Most Disappointing:
1. Thor Love and Thunder
2. Deep Waters
3. Lightyear
4. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
5. Turning Red
Surprising:
1. Fantastic Beasts the Secrets of Dumbledore
2. Downton Abbey: A New Era
3. Avatar: The Way of Water
4. Scream (2022)
5. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers
Most under-watched: Top Gun: Maverick, that movie bombed and surprised everybody hated it…Jk.
I wish more people watched The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent that movie was awesome!
Top gun maverick bombed ? It made over
1billion at the box office
@@dxd3mons702 It’s a joke
@P$YCH0 Bunny I get that part. But I watched the first movie for the first time back in late November (like 2.5 weeks before the movie came out). So I'm brand new to this world of Pandora. And I just wasn't expecting much going into this movie, I expected it to be good and entertaining. But this is like a top 5 movie of the year. I'm a big MCU fan, and it still kind of shocks me that Avatar 2 is better then any MCU movie to come out this year. That's why it's surprising to me, I'm a new fan to this franchise.
Why were you disappointed by Turning Red?
@@RJCXDOfficial Just as a Pixar movie it's bottom tier. I get disappointed when Pixar delivers medicore/forgettable movies. They are one of the best film studios out there.
Love the black phone! Was surprised by RRR, barbarian, and 13 lives
Love that new camera angle Sean!🙌🏻
Biggest surprise, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio.
Most underrated, Where the Crawdads Sing.
Most disappointing, Turning Red
What about the Batman?
@@zackyyyy007 I wasn’t surprised because I knew it would be phenomenal by the trailers and I definitely wasn’t disappointed in it. So it doesn’t go in either category 👍 it’s my third favorite movie of the year
@@NinthShinigami oh ok
Agree on most aside from Turning Red being a disappointment, I really enjoy it
I really admire you work ethic Sean! Seriously dude the amount of videos and shorts that pop up on my feed weekly is amazing. Keep it up mate ❤️
I like how you are doing transitions now. It doesn’t get unnoticed!
Rescue Rangers was one of the best multiverse films ever but Puss in boots 2 takes the cake for the best film of this year. But NEXT year will be LEGENDARY
Have you not seen Top Gun Maverick!!
@@thejamesbondshow9754 Nope
Everything Everywhere All At Once: *Allow me to introduce myself.*
Surprises: Chip and dale, avatar 2 (yes you read that right), hocus pocus 2, both dreamworks movies, the black phone, weird,
Disappointments:
Every Disney animated film (including Pixar) disenchanted, JW dominion, black Adam, Thor LAT
I’m sure there’s more for both but these stick out to me first
Agreed: every disney animated film was either really disappointing or forgettable( strange world cough)
Weird was one of my favorite movies of the year, I haven’t laughed at a movie that much at a movie in a while
I hated it
For me here’s my year roundup
Best: the Batman
Worst: dominion (also most disappointed)
Most surprising: the bad guys (also most underrated)
Most anticipated movie of 2023: Mario bros or ant man 3 or John wick 4
As a recommend to your TV show video, please see Severance, Sean. You'll love it
Missing an 'eye enn jee' there bud.
Biggest surprise for me was RRR and disappointment was Alex Garland's Men
Biggest surprises for me were both Pearl and X, Terrifier 2, Prey, and Scream 5. Biggest disappointments were Thor Love + Thunder, The Black Phone, Men, and Nope. As for underrated I’d give it to Hellraiser, The Adam Project, and Multiverse of Madness
Biggest surprises:
Avatar: The Way of Water (wasn’t expecting it to be so great)
Guillermo del Toro Pinocchio
Fantastic Beasts 3
Chip ‘n Dale
Biggest disappointments:
Thor: Love and Thunder
Lightyear
Jurassic World Dominion
@whatsappme7921 bruh 🤦♂️
Most surprising: Top Gun: Maverick
Most underrated: Thor: Love and Thunder and A Christmas Story Christmas
Most disappointing: The Gray Man
Thor: Love and Thunder was not disappointing to me because I had a lot of fun with it.
Anyways Here's My List
Most Surprising: The Black Phone, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Chip And Dale Rescue Rangers, X, Pearl, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Doctor Strange Multiverse Of Madness, Nope, Bullet Train, The Menu, Barbarian, Terrifier 2, Violent Night, Puss In Boots The Last Wish, Werewolf By Night, Turning Red,
Most Disappointing: Halloween Ends, Black Adam, Thore: Love And Thunder, HellRaiser, Smile,
Just came back from Puss in Boots 2. Wow is it AMAZING! Definitely my biggest suprise
My favorite movie of the year has to be Bullet Train, exactly my humor and style. Loved everything about it.
I haven’t watched Puss in Boots 2 yet, but I was surprised with the reputation so there’s that
Jeepers creepers reborn was the worst and most disappointing movie for me this year. I was hoping it would bring the franchise back but it just killed it.
At the start of the year I thought light-year and Thor 4 would be my favorite, I went into an existential crisis when them missed the mark, then I saw Weird the Al yankovic story and all was right with the world
Black Phone was good. Ethan Hawke is becoming a guaranteed good horror movie guy
My biggest surprise this year was the second camera angle I just saw 23 seconds ago.
and the biggest dissappointment would be the bot reply
Biggest surprises: Matilda the Musical(one of my favorite films of the year and an absolute delight), Weird: The Al Yankovic Story(A thoroughly entertaining film that went in a completely different direction than what I expected), Sonic the Hedgehog 2(A massive step up from the first movie and very entertaining), Jerry and Marge Go Large(Not fantastic, but a fun and likable film), Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers(A funny and entertaining movie with some clever comedy), and The Banshees of Inisherin(I thought it was gonna be kind of dull, but it was not only compelling, but it was pretty funny as well)
Underwatched-Violent Night(This was a wildly entertaining Christmas movie), Hustle(The best Adam Sandler movie I've ever seen), and A Christmas Story Christmas(This is absolutely a worthy followup to the original and much better than it had any right to be)
Disappointments-Halloween Ends(A nonsensical conclusion to the franchise that disrespects the mythos of the franchise), Jurassic World: Dominion(I wasn't super hyped for this movie, but it was still bad), Father of the Bride(Not terrible, but very forgettable), Strange World(Because they didn't market this movie at all, I wasn't that excited, but I wish it was so much better, because there's some okay ideas, like the end twist, but it plays it so safe and I took issue with the conflict between the family), Multiverse of Madness(It was disappointing when I first saw it, because it didn't deliver on the promise of the trailers, but it got better on rewatch), and Lightyear(This movie is bad. It's forgettable, it peaks in the first 20 minutes, the characters are dull, the messaging is on the nose, it makes no sense with the established canon, and the villain twist makes no sense. It's one of my least favorite animated movies of the past several years)
That dance scene in Matilda
@@ralphpal Which one? They're all fantastic.
@The Film Watcher the one in the hallway all over the internet
It's funny everyone is doing the Wednesday dance and no one is brave enough to even touch these kids
Biggest Disappointment: Thor Love and Thunder
Biggest Surprise: Smile
Black Panther was a disappointment
It was, for me at least. I don’t think it’s a bad film, I think it’s decent at best. Decent at best wasn’t what I was expecting tho, especially after the countless reviews praising it and guarantees from people who had seen the film. I dunno, just wasn’t for us I guess. The Boseman moments were still beautiful tho…

Halloween ends, Thor love and thunder, and Jurassic World dominion sucked so bad 😢
The Black Phone 100%
Barbarian, Terrifier 1&2, Rescue Rangers, Puss in Boots, and Vengeance are all on my watchlist!
For me the surprise film was top gun maverick I didn't grew up with top gun but I watched it and enjoyed it and it is top 5 movies of the year
Favourite movie: Everything Everywhere all at Once, Disappointment: Thor 4, Biggest surprise/Underappreciated: A Christmas Story Christmas
Deep Dive (Surprises):
Chip N’ Dale: I thought this would be a forgettable, corny movie, but it turned out to be an intriguing mystery and fun hi-jinx
Sonic 2: I enjoyed the original so I wasn’t skeptical but I had no idea it’d be as epic as it was
Top Gun Maverick: I joined very late to the party so I knew about it’s awesome reputation, but I thought it wouldn’t be for me because the original Top Gun was just ok to me, but it was just such a fun film
Weird the Al Yankovich Story: I knew it’d be weird, but I had no idea how weird it was gonna get so bonkers
Andor: The character brought no interest to me, I thought they’d lost their minds announcing it, but then I saw the trailer, realized what it was, and just thoroughly enjoyed every part about it
In particular for this year, horror had a lot of surprises whether good or bad.
A lot of horror movie surprises this year
It was a great year for horror
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout except for Halloween Ends and Nope for some audiences I guess.
Great vid idea sean!
Biggest Surprise: Scream 5
Most Underrated: Bullet Train
Most Disappointing: Spiderhead
My top surprises and disappointments
(Surprises) Chip N’ Dale, Sonic 2, Top Gun Maverick, Weird the Al Yankovich Story, Andor
(Disappointments) Moonfall, Obi Wan Kenobi, Doctor Strange 2, Thor Love and Thunder, My miss in The Batman
16:56 same forgot Grey man came out this year
Judging by what you said about the Russo bros new film and also cherry I feel like they need to stop living off the reputation of what they did with the mcu and disappear from making movie for a few years and then come back with something incredible
(The mcu should probably also do the same thing)
This is of course all my opinion
Great video! I agree with most of these.
Did you ever end up watching its a wonderful life, for the first time?
Sean have you seen the bad guys? I was stunned by how good it was. Definitely one of the best movies of the year, totally out of left field
The Bad Guys....Not the bad guys...Dude, big caps for titles...c'mon!!,

Great list:
My most disappointing movies are:
Most surprising movies:
Chip and Dale was one of my favorites of the year. That’s a sentence I never knew I’d ever say!
These are my picks for the year.
Biggest Surprise: Violent Night
Biggest Disappointment: Ambulance
Most Underwatched: Bodies Bodies Bodies
Biggest Surprise:- Prey (FINALLY! A good Predator movie after almost 35 years)
Biggest Disappointment:- Thor: Love and Thunder (We've already given enough crap to this movie already so I'll just leave it here)
Best
1. Top Gun Maverick
2. Spiderman No Way Home (saw it earlier this year still in cinema, loved it)
Anticipated and seeing at cinema soon, Puss In Boots 2, Avatar 2.
Like I had no idea what was gonna happen in the next 5 minutes, let alone the whole film
great video
Top Gun: Maverick was easily the biggest surprise. I didn’t like the first and didn’t even plan on watching it, then every person I knew said it was really good. I saw it, and it became my favorite movie of the year (but I found this year to be rather weak cinematically I was disappointed by a lot of films)
Deep Dive (Disappointments):
Moonfall: I was expecting a film that would just be dumb fun, but it was way too far fetched, way too serious and so boring
Obi Wan Kenobi: I liked the show, and I loved some of the moments, but I did not like some of the poor execution
Doctor Strange 2: I felt like I got 10% of what was promised, so I only got 4 short cameos, including Bruce Campbell, and 3 bits of multiversal hi-jinx, but I expected so much more
Thor Love and Thunder: It just went way too over the top and spoiled the fantastic ideas just to deliver goat screams and split kicks
My miss in The Batman: Batman is my favorite DC character, I love mystery stories, and the tone of the movie seemed perfect to me, and I never was given the opportunity to watch it 😢

Most underrated studio movie of 2022: THE OUTFIT
I didn't see a lot of new movies this year, but I think I can still give one per category.
Most surprising: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
I completely understand the criticisms that people have, but I love how they used the multiverse to develop the character of Doctor Strange.
Most underrated: Black Adam
Tons of fun, pretty funny, had some fun characters, but it's just a shame that the villain sucked.
Most disappointing: Lightyear
I was hoping for a really good movie, but I got something that was okay.
