- Siquijor Witches Part 2 | Filipino Legend! We meet the witch and it turns out it is a male witch doctor who performed bulo-bulo on us. This was not what we were expecting but it turned out to be an enjoyable experience. You know us, we love a good mangrove and today didn't disappoint and oh yeah, a nice sunset.

The esoteric explanation: the healer was using water elemental to absorb any bad energy the person has, and then dissipate it through the air elemental, or ground it through the stone or earth elemental. As per the explanation from my Filipina Visayan wife, the stone (anting-anting/agimat) has a ritual prayer or chant over it passed down generationally, in this case his faith healer great grandparents.
LMFAO. Just to clarify, that guy was an _albularyo_ (from spanish _herbolario,_ "herbalist"). They're not really the ones who gave Siquijor its reputation. Honestly most of it is just sleight of hand. Don't feel bad at laughing.
The original "witches" of Siquijor were actually shamans, called _babaylan,_ who escaped Spanish prosecution. And they were almost always women or homosexual men. As shamans, they were the religious leaders of the villages. They didn't need theatrics and magic tricks. Their main job was interceding. Talking to the spirit world for advice or healing or cursing enemies. Hence why it's mostly women and gay men because they were believed to have female spirits who had a stronger connection to the spirit world (giving birth and all that).
This also meant that when the Spanish arrived and introduced Christianity they were the first to go. They were reduced to being "healers" (usually doing things like therapeutic massage or _hilot,_ setting bones, or midwifery), while Catholic priests took over their religious roles. A few _babaylan_ attempted to lead revolts against the Spanish because of this, but all of them failed. As a result, almost none of the traditions survived. Modern _albularyo_ are a far cry from the _babaylan._

Exactly. Pre-Spanish colonization, women in the islands were very much respected and the villages hold high respect towards them. Sometimes, they even have higher regards for the women than they do some men.

@@annemateart1663 I don't think there is a book dedicated to that topic. Most of my knowledge on them is incidental, encountered while reading about other things in pre-colonial Filipino culture.
It also doesn't help that Philippine shamans differed from ethnic group to ethnic group and have different names (they were known as babaylan or baylan in the Visayas). Though in most of the Philippines (and indeed also in Borneo, eastern Indonesia, and Japan), the shamans were women or effeminate men... hence "witches".
They are described in Spanish records, mostly in relation to the revolts they did. They're also usually talked about in detail in books which deal with Philippine pre-colonial history or the pre-colonial animist religion - Anito.

Is it just me as I notice your smiles, gestures, and other aspects of your body language becomng more spontaneous, fluid, and light hearted? You two appear to talk and act more relaxingly. Could it be that the unassuming healer dissipated some negative elements from your chakra? I mean, there's a positive aura about you both. I guess that is why some people consider the Philippines as one of the world's great psychic power points and why most Filipinos are always chuckling, laughing and smiling despite their hardships. He is not a witch. He is a faith healer. Witch in Siquijor doesn't tell anyone that they are a witch. It is hard to find them. You only find them through good reliable source or meet one when you open up to them and tell your problem. They will just help you and tell you that they can do what you want for an exchange (not money but certain animal). If you find a real witch please post. Sea snake sometime lives on the mangroves.
I grew up there so I understood that culture and kind of thinking. Emma's water took longer to clear because remember it has been her who has always been sick lately on that trip. It's a kind of energy healing like cleansing your aural energy around your body especially the problem spots. Question is, after Emma's healing was she ever sick again the rest of the trip (or at least there in Siquijor after the healing). Thanks! New subscriber here and really enjoying your vlogs. :)
Siquijor island is a witch island but you won't find one because that is just a meeting place. All witches from different islands of Philippines gather there every Good Friday to test & re-energize their witchcrart

I've been there too to visit and meet some healers. I'm a kind of shaman and using faith healing. I really love that Island and felt like I belong to that place. It was weird but I felt peace there. I hope to go back soon to meet other healers and talk about our knowledge. I've been to Makati to meet Jaime.T.Licauco and show some things with my shamanic drum and asked him if he could recommend me someone like me but unfortunately he never met someone with the same skill so... I still traveling. I did an international congress of healer in France where I had a chance to meet other shamans from different part of the world. We did ceremonies every night to show and explain our culture. It was pretty interesting to share our knowledge and traditions.

They have different practices. Others wont do healing when the healer is not drunk. Theres also use different stuff like blowing smoke to some parts of your body..
Like your video. We came here for 4 days, that was over 2 months ago and we're still here. There are many healers on this amazing island and it really works. Doctors are always the very last resort.
I'm glad you guys went to get some healing. Its always best if you talk to locals for reputable ones ( you are allowed to ask decent questions and apologize if you do feel like you have offended them). In the Philippines, most heal for Good, but others may not (so avoid those). As you said, you want to do this in other countries again. You have to make sure that that healer has a good reputation... something that you don't rush into. Traditional herbs, with a reputable practitioners is probably more safer. You mentioned that you love mangrove forest, try visiting my province Kalibo, Aklan and Ibajay, Aklan and you will find very beautiful mangrooves. Oh, and by the way Aklan is the province of Malay where Boracay is.

Going to a witch doctor is a matter of faith. I remember when i was a kid everytime i got sick my mom brought me to a magtatAwas and a faith healer , and the next day i got healed:)
There is definitely something in the faith part of it, not sure if I believe in the practice but I really believe in feed your faith to starve your doubts.

Siquijor is truly a Paradise of Mystery and Magic. It is peaceful, fascinating, as well as creepy. We have a helper who lived in this island and she told me endless tales from her great-great grandmother's healing capabilities and magic spells. She often told me dat her Grandmother will often knelt at 6am or 12 noon when the bell tolls at the nearby church even along the way. And dey have a creepy ancient statue of a woman which the witches often visited long time ago. Witches capabilities here are the most powerful but they kept it low-key and others evacuate to far-flung areas due to plunge of strangers.

Witch here. Witch is a gender neutral term, so there are male and female witches. Witchcraft works on principles very similar to what some call "faith". It involves different techniques (depending on the magickal system) coupled with belief, will and visualization to manifest desired outcomes. Very cool video. I like your idea of searching out more magickal experiences in different countries.

Mangrove is a sanctuary of all living things. I love to bring children to learn science. Its a breeding ground for fish, crabs, clams oysters, basically all crustaceans and thousands more.
......and the witches came from the mangrove!😂😂😂
As stated below by Dante Fabian, I too blew bubbles in my drinks, but when I was blowing bubbles in the bath I must have been healing half the population of the town. No one truly understood the benefits, such a shame. 😁 More great video guys, love it.

Good on you guys you have been there and experienced one witch activity unlike me that I just heard stories from friends whom I believed just as well heard the story from another without a first hand experience about siquijor. We have local healers here in our place but siquijor is more well known for such. Thanks for the video.

As I recall my experience when I was younger, my brother fell off a tree and had a bad ankle sprain and could not walk. The next day my parents took him to a faith healer and all of a sudden he could walk. 😳

When I was younger, my grandma took me to them when I got sick. I didn’t believe in it. My parents didn’t either, but we just went along with it because my grandma insisted. 🤷♀️ I’ve seen others that use wax droppings on water and find out was wrong or if you offended the spirits, others that whisper into a stick and just somehow know things. The most common one, I think, is the use of smoke. I didn’t live in Siquijor, so yes, you can find them everywhere in PH.

Most parts of the Philippines got no sharks and crocks. altho in surigao there were few sightings of crocks. so better be careful... few cobras around the country but that's so seldom. annoyingly, roasters and chickens are everywhere... lolz

My grandfather was a famous Albularyo/Faith Healer in our village. Even people from nearby towns and villages would go to him to be healed. He passed away few years ago with no one to pass his ability on. No one from his children got his ability.

"BULA-BULA" - BULA is a Filipino word meaning "BUBBLES". The faith healer is blowing the glass of water using a straw (wood) to create the bubbles and that's the reason why the faith healer called Bula-Bula.
I'm happy that you enjoyed staying in siquijor even in a short for your journey in the Philippines.... Next time try to go to my cousin which I highly recommended to ask some more beautiful place there. He lives in Port area and he has motorbike for rent his name is Ken Ybañez and he is cousin even thou I live in Manila I been there every May of the year to attend Larena fiesta...

In my province (samar) you don't need to blow the water in a jar. It will automatically boil if you are possessed by bad spirits or you have someone (ghost) walking with you.
