- Getting around Amsterdam is easy when you use the trams. The 1-hour ticket and 24-hour ticket are available on the tram and bus or from Ticket Vending Machines at all metro stations. In this video, I will tell you everything you need to know including the hours of operation, costs, and why they are so clean! I will also tell you about my favorite travel app and why you need to download it for your next vacation.

Thank you! We’re on Day 1 in Rotterdam, about to visit Amsterdam, and you explained the tram process so nicely!
Thank you!! Have a wonderful day exploring Amsterdam!
Really loving these video's you have done as we are traveling to Amsterdam in a few months. Also enjoying the Pacsafe info
Thanks so much for watching!!
Thank you for sharing your video, it was super helpful 👍
Happy to help! Thanks for watching.
Even though the 1 hour tickets is expensive, there is also a cheaper way to pay for shorter single trips: You can just hold your credit or debit card to the card reader when getting on/off the tram. It will automatically charge you a kilometer price (this is cheaper than 1-hour tickets on most jouneys).
Good to know! Thanks for sharing that information!!
Thank you for this information! I'll be there the last week of August for the first time, and I was hoping that I can just use my contactless credit card on trams just as I understand one can do to take the train from the airport to Centraal Station.
Super helpful. Shoutout from Brooklyn!
Thanks for the watch! Shout out from Yanbu, Saudi Arabia!
Great video! I'm on the travel app already.
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
Very helpful thanks a lot ❤
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
very helpful for my next travel in amsterdan :) i will never be lost anymore with the app 🤣Ty
Happy to help!
amazing! thanks for this
My pleasure!
This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for.
So happy to help!
Thanks for the helpful video! I also love that, since 2023, it is now possible to simply check-in and check-out using contactless payments on all Dutch public transport, which I think makes it much easier for tourists and occasional travellers.
Thanks for watching and your insights!
Can you use your personal bank card for that? Without even the need to buy tickets in advance?
Hi, I would like to ask can you use your personal bank card to pay directly without the need to buy a ticket in advance?
@@norali6439yes, only VISA and Mastercard debit/credit card are accepted.
Born in ASD, was a Police Officer in The Red-light District, got married and left the Netherlands 40+ years ago. Love the video. But, I will never come back to live there again. Thank you ...
Thanks for watching!
Thanks 🌹🌹
You’re welcome!!
you Canadians have the best pronunciation of english
Thank you! ❤️
Thank for your video, ver good.
Do I have to purchase 2 cards for me and my wife? Or I can just purchase 1 and both of us to use it?
Good question, I’m pretty sure you need to buy one card for each person
Dude, where was your website reference when I was planning out all these stupid public transports in Amsterdam and Germany?
Thanks for the tip.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!!
:35 Brouwerij’t Brewery is a great place for beer with a side of sausage and cheese
Good to know!
I was in Amsterdam before and intimidated by public transit. Took cabs. NOW, after watching your video, it all seems way too simple. I've already downloaded the app. 3 weeks before our trip. 3 full days in Amsterdam, then Stockholm, Copenhagen, etc on a cruise. I feel much better equipped after your video. Thank you!
Awesome! I just booked a similar trip myself for this summer, Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen. Check out my channel, we were in Amsterdam and Stockholm a year and a half ago, I have lots of videos you might like.
Have a fantastic trip!

Is taking a normal CheckIn size box possible in a tram there in Amsterdam?
This situation may arise for one commuting to reach their hotel after landing at Schipol airport.
Not a problem at all.
Greetings from the valley of the sun! Can you please advise as to good 3 to 4 star hotels to stay at in Amsterdam. I was thinking of staying at the Hampton inn central east. Also, can you just buy the daily ticket for 72 hours from the airport and use it to go to the city center? Thank you!
Hello! Hotels are so different in Europe compared to Canada and the US. The rooms are smaller, the stairs are steeper, often there are no elevators or air conditioners, especially in the old part of Amsterdam. However, staying right in Amsterdam in a cool old building with all that history is so fun. I have a video on the last place we stayed in Amsterdam ua-cam.com/video/E0kaglvr4Sg/v-deo.htmlsi=V4Z5EKBTEIBb_7Lg
The location was awesome, it was comfortable and clean but if you read the reviews they are mixed. If you want something more modern, we also stayed in Hoofddorp near the airport at the Hampton by Hilton Amsterdam.
As for the ticket, yes, you can buy a 3 day pass from the airport . Hope this helps, enjoy your trip.
Please also TAP OUT too with your card. Not just in. This is important
Yes! Tap out too!
Why tap out ?
@@EVERTONFC. the cards known as ‘OV-chipcard’-which anyone staying for more than a single week should get-act like an electronic cash wallet of sorts. You charge the card with money (at one of the yellow ticket machines); you pay a (higher than typical trip fee) deposit at tap in; the exact fee for your specific trip is calculated and settled with the deposit when you tap out properly. If you fail to do so, the system keeps all of the deposit but before it does that, it keeps you on ‘checked in’ status for a while. During that period you’ll be unable to tap in for your next trip. Secondly: some of the stations (most if not all metro stations and many of the NS train stations) have toll gates. If your card is left in a non checked-out status, the gate won’t let you pass on your way in.

Do the teams stop at all stations (or do I need to hit a stop button?)
Good question! I’m not sure about that. I’m guessing if no one is waiting at a station, you may need to hit a stop button.
I'm coming to Amsterdam from England in a few weeks time and I'm staying for 6 nights. I will arrive into Schiphol Airport on Saturday 22nd July. I'm staying in a Hotel in Zaandam. I want to know does this 3 day travel pass cover the train from Schiphol Airport to Zaandam or will I have to pay a single fare from the Airport to Zaandam. I will most likely just stay in Zaandam on the Saturday evening and have a look around. I will travel into Amsterdam all the other days that I'm there.
the 3 day pass shown in the video is only valid for the GVB transport company, which only has services inside amsterdam (bus, tram, metro) for the train you need to get a NS train ticket. You can have different ways of traveling. Either by a train ticket, a QR code (you can get one with the NS reisplanner app) or by traveling with a credit/debit card with contactless payments enabled. I recommend the latter, same system with tapping in and out, but instead of a ticket you use your bank card. Works like a charm.
Thank you
Thanks for answering this one!
Hi I will travel to Amesterdam from Sweden on the 14 of August. I just would like to ask if this hotel was good and is it actually in Amsterdam city center ?
@@norali6439 I reviewed this hotel on my channel, here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/E0kaglvr4Sg/v-deo.html

Where can you get the multi day tickets?
This is what I found online
Below you purchase the multi-day ticket online via www.public-transport-holland.com as a paper chip card. This ticket is send by post.
The day and multi-day ticket is also available at various hotels, camp sites, Tours & Tickets and AKO bookstores in Amsterdam.
These travel products can also be purchased in the GVB app as a barcode ticket.
What was the name of the app please? Can’t find a good app, thanks
It’s called Rome2Rio. It’s a fantastic app.
can i ride the tram/train in a circle and get back off? Im planning on going on a trip, and the first day I just want to ride the train/train and get back off.
Good question, I’d have to look at a transit map. We often do that too. In Amsterdam we hopped on, rode until we saw something interesting and then eventually just hopped on the train going back into the city. I have feeling the trains run in a line rather than a circle but I could be wrong.
@@TinagirlTravels oh cool. I would love to hear your results
Great video but where do you buy the ticket??
Where to buy tickets? The 1-hour ticket and 24-hour ticket are available in the tram and bus, or from Ticket Vending Machines at all metro stations. All other travel cards - like multi-day tickets, the child ticket, and OV-chipkaart - can only be purchased at: GVB Service Points
where do i buy the ticket?
At the station or on board
Where and how to buy the tickets, please?
You can buy them at the stations on right on board.
