Windu versus Dooku is the light saber fight I want to see most in Star Wars lore for sure!
I think they fought a couple of times in some comics, usually to a stalemate since neither could really get the upper hand on the other. Even Yoda himself wasn't sure who'd come out on top if they fought.

Dooku went into the dark side diplomatically. His skill and tactics are noteworthy. But he never succumbed to the apparent disfigurement that came along with turning to the dark side fully. Despite his skill, his lack of picking a side is probably what was his biggest weakness. An enemy to the Jedi, expendable to the Sith.
In Legends Plagueis saw Dooku as sith lord material due to his super high potential Yoda thinking Dookus potent with the force was enigmatic for even himself to comprehend which is one of the reasons Yoda took Dooku as his apprentice that and Dooku was already a natural with the blade and with the force to the point of the latter where his first experience of combat was based on force powers such as force shields, force barriers, telekinesis, force speed, force reflexes, and force senses all in one to the point that as a nine year old Initiate he easily won force battle sparring matches and was so good and powerful that he was the only student Yoda did not let win and put even little effort into beating and as we know Dooku got even better as he grew older at force combat, knowledge, mastery, raw power, etc as a Jedi Master before, during, and for a long time after The Phantom Menace Era Dooku was considered the strongest student, the most learned in the ways of the force, and the orders greatest failure the latter due to his resignation implying that his potential was the third highest in the order in the prequel Era only behind Yoda And Anakin while Mace would be the fourth highest potentialed individual around those times and Yaddle the fifth and Plo Koon the sixth yeah.
I believe that Dooku was judging Vaapad base his encounter with Sora. Has he encountered Mace using true Vaapad (as he used with against Sidious) his analysis of it would be very different.

While I am confident Mace at his best would beat Dooku I feel like Dooku would be the only person to properly fight against it since Dooku unlike many dark siders tapped into the dark side without letting himself get enveloped by it. Channeling it with grace and control most likely from his Jedi background and slightly because of his overly composed and condescending attitude and approach to combat
I agree with this wholely. Dooku flirted with the lines of the Grey jedi and sith. He thought he was fighting on the correct side (separatists) because he could create order in the galaxy if his side won. The ironic part is that he indeed was on the side the jedi should have sided with.
It depends if it is in Dooku’s prime( A few years before AOTC) or ROTS when he was old and tired.
@@samuel_saysske1355 Both of them in their prime, I'm goign to give this one to Windu, especially if We're talking a prime Dooku in the Dark side. But even a Prime Dooku in the light side, I'm still going to give it to Windu. From what I recall, when they did fight and Dooku won, Windu was still young (and younger than Dooku) and far from his prime.
@@ceejay1353 My understanding (albeit rather poor) is that Vaapd works best when the user acts like a conduit channelling the power and aggression of the Dark side wielder through and back at them. So a superlative swordsman who happened to use Dark side abilities to enhance their power (more like Dooku) would be in a better position against Mace than a someone who was also brilliant swordsman but who placed considerably more emphasis on the raw power of the dark side of the force (like Sidious). This is because there is more power available from the Dark sider to use against them. So Mace was always likely to defeat Sidious but Dooku would be different. His age makes a difference but not only because his prowess with the sabre has waned, but also (I suspect) he would need to compensate for that loss of ability with greater use of dark side power. As such, a theoretical fight, earlier in Dooku's life after he turned would have been harder for Mace to win than one later on.
@@Daniel-mz5ek In short, I agree with you. I think Windu still wins but it would probably be his hardest dark side user fight because of what you said. But Also, I think people kind of limit Windu to only being good with Vaapad and that being the only edge he has. I'm not saying that you say this to be clear. But if he was effectively the third greatest Swordsman when he was younger and less experienced than Dooku and Dooku would've been in his light side prime, I think it's fair to give Windu the Edge here.
I think you should do a video on why Ventress used two blades in her fighting style when Dooku detested, to say the least, people who used two lightsabers in their fighting style. It doesn't make much sense to me why dooku would allow his apprentice Ventress to use two blades when he hated Grievous, Maul, and Anakin for doing the same it was one of the reasons dooku cut off Anakins arm off in the first place.
Probably so Sidious wouldn't think he was going to betray him or because Ventress already was using two sabers before being a sith assassin
Dooku believed wielding more than one Saber was a cheap trick and not reflective of skill. Pretty sure Dooku felt Grievous and Ventress wouldn't be as successful without multiple blades going up against Knights and Masters.

While she was his apprentice she hails from dathomir and the magic of the night sisters, are you really gonna sit there and tell such a person that they can’t have two lightsabers? Also dooku developed a fondness throughout the clone wars of anakin and subsequently he’s apprentice. Dooku witnessed first hand the effectiveness of jarkai, though he disapproved of it he couldn’t knock it. Also, I’m sure he would have developed an understanding and appreciation for other combat forms in his time as one of the best saber instructors at the jedi temple, having realized that everyone has a particular stance that’s perfect for them.
@bombadillo6810 I'm talking about Dooku here, about his point of view, dooku allowed grievous to have four blades because it was his masters sidious's order. Dooku was arrogant and prideful and thought his way of thinking and dueling was the best way and the way it should be.
Count Dooku was correct about Sora Bulq, but it was for the wrong reason. Dooku noted how Bulq used a "sloppy" version, but was too clouded in the Dark Side to make the correct conclusion as to WHY Bulq's version of Vaapad was bad. Since Dooku devoted himself to the pro-Dark Side narrative that the Force is both sides and power was all that mattered, he thought Vaapad's flaw was that it didn't use the Dark Side enough like it "should" have.
Mace Windu perfected Vaapad by choosing to accept his darkness and the truth: the Dark Side is a cancer of the Force and the "Light Side" is the authentic Force. By serving the Force instead of trying to enslave it, Windu unlocked the power of Vaapad Bulq could never get with all his lust.
I agreed with you 100%, many people miss that very important fact between Mace and Sora.

Anakin wore his heart on his sleeve. Even Obi Wan and everyone knew he was banging that chick. There's a deleted scene in Episode 3 where Sidious says Padme's hiding something and Anakin denies it, but Palpatine basically says he's conflicted. So, my Star Wars fan character being the lightsaber nut that he is eventually learned of form 7, and of Vapad developing his own variation called jiyin (ji-yin) which altered jiwo to a more energetic and chaotic form calling upon and amplifying a user’s excitement and joy rather than anger amplifying the light side of the force when used. The form additionally allowed for the fluid use of force powers similar to form 6 Niman which he had originally used to great affect ultimately combining the two forms to what he referred to as the ultimate form of lightsaber combat. However, he was recognized as by this point he had been exiled from the Jedi Order and spent most of his time in seclusion eventually kicking in the face of death Vader in a duel literally with Vader concluding that he was not a Jedi any longer and that he would never beat him in a fight.
Mace windu Seem atleast Nigh Incorruptible because if his own style cannot Corrupt him what truly could aside from if he had Killed Palpatine that is

He had two, Yoda and Cyslin Myr. I’m sure he developed Vaapad years after passing his trails though. And yes, I’m sure they both approved of him developing the form when you learn the story of why he created it. He and his apprentice Depa Billaba were the only true masters of Vaapad.

Vapaad is not simply a facsimile of juyo. It is similar yes. But the differences are important. The power and ferocity of a juyo practitioner is fueled by their own inner rage and thus connection with the dark side. Vapaad is actually fueled by the opponents rage and connection to the dark side. Perhaps this is why dooku was unimpressed, since he did not fully immerse himself in the dark side, and remained centered and calm while fighting, like the Jedi that he once was. I would love to see a dooku - windu duel. I believe dooku might be able to win such a duel, though I'm not certain of that. Windu was able to defeat sidious because of vapaad and the power it granted him through sidious' darkness. But dooku would provide much less advantage to windu because of his relatively calm controlled use of the dark side.
Mace also had three other highly skilled Jedi with him that Sidious had to deal with had it started out as just a pure one on one fight it would be way different yeah.
Did Mace have any other favorite forms he used next to vaapad? (I know he mastered all forms)
Windu supposedly had a decent level of mastery in all 7 forms, though so did Dooku. They were both prodigies in the art of saber combat, so it'd be weird for them not to have a working knowledge of all forms, its just they both specialize in a particular form.

Isn't that the point? The AOTC is a mystery movie where we discover Dooku's gentleman manners are just a facade. It ends with Dooku and Sidious starting the war and scheming.

Yes, welcome to the Dark Side.....we have cookies too! All kidding aside, making yourself better (a better person, a better fighter, a better defender/protector, a better healer, etc) would be in line with the Living Force as opposed to the dogma of the Jedi Council. There are elements of self-truth (because our "truths" are based on our own perceptions of the universe) in both the Jedi Code and the Sith Code.

It should be noted that Mace was already the top tier form seven user before, during, and after mastering Vaapad and the only two people he never beat in saber sparring matches were Dooku And Yoda and that says a lot since Dooku was able to best a top tier Djem So user in Plo Koon and everyone else besides the two i just mentioned in saber matches yeah.

Dooku and Mace would of fight in Clone wars the disappear act with JarJar and the Queen. But they ended up going with Mother Talzin as the villain and who fought Windu. I guess it made more sense to go with her.

If Dooku knows anything, it's lightsabers. If he says it's an inferior form, it's inferior. That being said, just because it isn't perfect doesn't mean it isn't the best fit for Mace Windu, nor does it mean that he's weak for using it. Mace could have been much stronger if he embraced the dark side, but that wasn't his way. He was Jedi through and through. He refused the allure of quick power to follow the path he though was right.
He DID indeed successfully develop a Jedi Form 7.. Mace just was totally WRONG about it being perfect. The fact that it's founders failed to PERFECT it to where it DIDN'T or very seldom caused a trained Jedi's fall means it WASN'T PERFECT at all an needed more work. Such a fact shoulda stood out to both Sora and Mace especially. To be perfect it probably should've been the kinda thing that actually did pull a Force User to either Light side or more a balanced state. Rather then push to the Darkside. An when THAT truly been achieved test it on someone like Anakin. To "fix" his flaws. Dooku woulda seen VERY different had he witnessed Mace use it over Sora. An also being an extremely good fighter AND true user of Vaapadd Dooku would only bout survive only if Mace wanted him too.
Yep, the Vaapad Form had flaws and led a lot of Jedi to the Dark Side. I think Mace would have been better off creating an entirely different and new form that would have been from a Light Side user's concept. To me it seemed that using Vaapad was dancing on the edge of a razor and it was just a matter of time or situation that would cause you to fall.
True Vaapad needs one to remain centered enjoy the contest, understand the end may come but not fear it. Form seven needs the fear, guilt, shame and hatred of self rooted in the dark side while Vaapad needs the care, selflessneses and the love of self and what one stands for in truth thus granting its using true power held within freedom countering the false power of the Sith who is enslaved to their shame, fear and rage.
Dooku was wrong. I think he judged Bulq. If he saw Windu he would change his mind. Vapaad is perfect. It used strength and enemies darkness against them. Strange Dooku thought that. Dooku hated mace's vaapad not because it was sloppy, but because mace's force gift of Shatter point made his vaapad perfect! Not a hot uncontrollable fire but a focused plasma beam! Focused anger is always more dangerous. If Mace trained students in vaapad, he would have them find their own unique focus point for their anger. Mace would be the correct teacher to show perfect form 7.
I got an idea. What if Maul joined Obi Wan on Tatooine? Maul had grown to hate Sidious for killing his brother and mother as well as raising him to be a weapon. He would want to bring the Emperor down. It would take some time no doubt but it would be interesting to see how he could possibly change over the years.
Mace Windu would be OP asf in the old republic the sith back then wouldn’t stand a chance, then he could teach Vaapad to other, bro coulda been the chosen one in that era with vaapad and shatter point

Dooku isn't wrong in his assumption of Vapaad being a facsimile of Juyo, but that's because that's the point it has similar stances and techniques but it's not supposed to be rooted in the dark side like Juyo, this is where I think Dooku is mistaken though cause if as Mace has stated before Vapaad is a state of being it's power is determined by that person's own willpower while using the form Sora was already falling to the dark side when he fought Dooku, so reasonably speaking he had no strength in the form in comparison to someone like Mace Windu who defeated Dooku's own master with the form.

He seemed to respect Obi-Wan's mastery of Form 3, even to the point of admitting to himself that even he would have a tough time breaking Obi-Wan's defenses via lightsaber combat alone. Though this is an episode 3 Obi-Wan he respected.

Its less the aggression aspect and more the heavy strikes of 5 that he had a problem defending against (Well that and Anakin being an absolute beast physically) . 7 is kind of a mix of speed, strength and aggression, but not the raw power strikes of 5.

I am not extra familliar with all the lore from Clone Wars series, but in movies Windu did not lost a single duel using Vapaad, always managing to successfuly use his oponent darkness against them. Meanwhile form VII failed at least few times, both when used by Maul, and Sidious.

Mace windy was essentialy the jedi vegeta then. Creates his own form with purple (lightsaber) that makes him stronger because of his love for fighting and combat.
I think Windu's version of Vaapad is almost there, incomplete but much more advanced than the other users think.
If Mace Windu had survived the clone wars and somehow everything happened the same way, maybe if he survived the push/fall from the window, and he joined Luke's order, maybe he would have perfected Vaapad, the way I see it its more akin to how some practitioners after the fall of the empire tap into emotions that aren't inherently dark sided to empower themselves, I think there was a video on this, but maybe Vaapad is just a smidge closer to the dark side than even Windu thinks, trying to walk an extremely fine line between awareness and immersion (for lack of a better word).
Watching these holocrons for some time, the conclusion about the prequels is about 50% of it is just Count Dooku disliking (insert jedi name) because (insert jedi name) does not use Makashi.

Vaapad would definitely be Worf's lightsaber form.
If I’m right then Dooku had the advantage against Grievous right up until his death; however if Grievous had successfully learned Vaapad through dueling Mace Windu then Grievous may have become the most dangerous lightsaber duelist in the galaxy (most likely even surpassing Obi Wan’s defensive form)
I think Dooku’s dismissal of Vaapad is due to the fact that as duelist he is the exception to the inner workings of the form, unlike other Sith such as Maul, Sidious or Vader, when it came to lightsaber combat, Dooku changed very little from his Jedi day. Form II requires focus and precision and is not a form best suited to be fuelled by anger or aggression like most other lightsaber form. Dooku channels the Dark Side through his force abilities which is the key difference; Windu’s Vaapad was like the kriptinite for duelists fueled by the darkside, Dooku isn’t, why would he? He is already considered the best lightsaber duelist in the galaxy save Yoda, why would he need to change anything there? If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Although I believe in later years Mace still would beat him in duel as Dooku’s proneness to Fatigue and also overconfidence would undo him against an aggressive fighter like Windu as it did with Anakin

Dooku looking upon Sora, and judging Vaapad, is like trying to judge an Olympic routine, performed by college athlete that has no intention of going to Olympics or going pro. There is skill there, but no refinement. Dooku is the master of Makashi, but as a powerful, angry Anakin proved. Even Dooku's mastery had limits. I think if Dooku had ever faced off with Mace Windu after he became the face of the Separatist, Dooku would of put up a fight, but eventually the ferocity of Vaapad would of overwhelmed. After all Master Yoda a master of Ataru, could fight Dooku to a stand still, and Makashi on paper should manhandle Ataru.
Those two were the Greatest Duellists in the entire Jedi Order! Not to mention best friends! I reckon Dooku would have retracted his statement if he saw Mace Windu use his 'refined Vapaad' as it wasn't just a combat form but a state of mind as well.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Dooku seemingly hated everything other than his own style.
Dooku vs Mace would be one fight to behold. It only happened once in Legends. I feel like Mace Windu would win this fight, not only because he beat Sidious but Mace was a master duelist like Dooku. While it has been stated Dooku did win in sparring matches, people forget that he accomplished this when he was in his prime, and now he’s an 83 year old man. Mace is also really quick like Anakin and has the chance of outpacing him. I must stress that I’m not a Dooku hater as I like both him and Windu. Count Dooku can definitely use the force to hold Windu back but it isn’t a trump card, Mace has amazing physical abilities and can take the hits, and can block Dooku’s lightning. It’s still a close fight but overall I’d have to say that Mace Windu wins.
It actually was gonna happen in Clone Wars. The dissappeared act where JarJar and Mace windu were finding the Queen. It was meant to be Dooku vs Mace, but they ended up going with Mother Talzin.
@@watsupdoc Yeah, also could’ve happened in The Son Of Dathomir arc if it was finished, when Obi-Wan and Mace Windu fought Count Dooku and Darth Maul. But in the pages of the comic Windu fights Maul instead, then he gets cheap shotted by a Mando rocket so the Sith can escape. But the only time their blades really clashed was in the”Legends Republic Comics”. There was no true winner though and Dooku had his Manga-Guards step in to distract Windu, for him to escape. Which leads me to believe Mace had the advantage in the fight and would’ve won.
Legends Windu is fodder, the fight would be more fair in Canon.
I think we are missing a couple factors that would determine who would win:
1. Preparation: If Dooku had a chance to prepare to determine the time and place of the duel, I believe Dooku would win. In a straight up, random location with preparation, then Windu wins.
2. Location: selecting a location that would benefit one fighter over the other would probably be a determining factor.
3. Age: a younger Dooku would probably win as he was much more "righteous" as opposed to Dark Side at that point in his life. It seems that Vaapad allows the user to "channel" their opponent's Dark Side and rage through and back at the opponent, like a mirror reflecting back. If there wasn't any Dark Side or rage to feed Vaapad, how effective would it be? Now how effective would Form 2 be against Vaapad in this situation? I don't know, but I think a very good Form 6 user fighting with no Dark Side or Rage would do better against Vaapad. Why I believe this is because without Dark Side or Rage to feed the Vaapad user, and along with the constant quick changes of style that a Form 6 user could bring to the duel, this would confound the Vaapad user, leading to their defeat.

I think Dooku was just saying what he needed to say to tear him down, working on his insecurity, and his obvious sympathies for the dark side

I believe the main reason Mace was able to use Vaapad better than anyone else who attempted its use was his shatterpoint ability which was unique to master Windu and the reason Dooku would have lost to Mase imo.
I didn't know mac windo had Dark side in him. & he get Mad at Ankin Sikeywalker.
Because he knew That Windu would have Dooku over Powered, Vapaad is a Style that could re direct His energy towards dark side users.

I think he was exactly half right and wrong and that he might take a bit longer if he fought Windu but still come to the same conclusion but with slightly different reasoning
I think Dooku could still win against Windu even after his fall to the dark side, Dooku was a Duelist first and foremost while Windu was a brawler that has the foresight to adjust and understand his weaknesses. Overall I’d say the Dooku is slightly weaker than Mace but he has the skill advantage in Form II.
Mace style is a hybrid adapted could even beat sideous whereas dooku style couldn't even keep him alive against a little trickery

Dooku actually never saw Vaapad achieved .Myself and others have seen that Mace was the only one to truly achieve Vaapad. What was attempted by Bulq wasn't perfected, so Dooku would have been of a different opinion if he and Mace had faced off, at least that us what I believe.

Ok so if mace windu used his darkness inside of him to become a powerful Jedi then why didn't they let Anakin do the same that makes no sense and on top of that why didn't they let Anakin train and be taught by mace windu that would have stopped Anakin's turn to the dark side the Jedi are dumb and that's why their gone the fear the dark side too much they need to push every Jedi to the brink of the dark side and bring them back that's the only way to stop Jedi from turning you have to turn them yourself
Sora was never truly centered with Vaapad do he never truly displayed it at its best.
Dooku would foil Windu’s Vaapad, while Dooku uses the Dark Side, he uses it from a Jedi approach controlling his emotions
Windu’s Vaapad would lack dark emotions to feed off him
Dooku’s controlled demeanor and knowledge over each style would know how to outmaneuver Windu with his Makashi

He was indeed but I believe what Christopher is saying is that he gave himself to the dark side but not wholly as he never gained sith eyes. Granted you are right the dark side isn’t just the dark force abilities but the emotions that comprise them like force lightning requires rage and fury. He may be doing so with grace but he’s still using the dark side and vaapad was created to tame dark thoughts and emotions mace hoped this would help him with his inner darkness then mastered it allowing him to turn others darkness against them it’s a direct counter to the dark side. Even dark side abilities that don’t use the force could be countered by true vaapad in my opinion. Such as dunmoc as it’s still malicious.
@@bombadillo6810 yeah for Christopher to claim Dooku was a Jedi using the dark side is just completely false though considering he was a full on Sith Lord Darth tyrantus and not just a dark Jedi or whatever word he wants to use. Even palpatine was able to mask his dark eyes and his entire dark nature and he was a dark side user from a very young age
No one had a better concealment of the dark side than palatine who was a Sith Lord while working with the Jedi for many many years and it worked agaisnt him so to say it wouldn’t work against Dooku is head cannon at best and just flawed logic otherwise

Mace and Dooku dueled ina canon comic on Ridley. Vaapad was completely ineffective on Dooku. Mace made zero progress and Dooku was most certainly not pressed by him. Without Vaapad, Mace had zero advantage against Dooku and it showed.

I'm pretty sure Dooku looks down upon everyone with regards to Duelling. Considering he perfected form 2 and was arguably one of, if not the, best pure duellist of his time and being the arrogant elitist, all forms are inferior to his ina duel and no one who uses form 2 comes close to his mastery of it. So it seems like Dooku looks down on everyone, except Yoda

I think Mace's shatterpoint ability helped him perfect vaapad with both of these things Mace would have easily beat Dooku.
Considering Vaapad can allow a Jedi to overwhelm a stronger Sith Lord (Mace < Palpatine) by turning their powers against them, I think it's safe to say that not only Dooku hated it, every Dark Side users probably hates someone who mastered this form of Lightsaber combat.
Sith/Dark Siders advocates giving into your selfish desires and staying focused (one tracked mind) until you obtain victory and be freed of your chains and their most common argument against the Jedi's philosophy is that the negative emotions within yourself can fuel your force power to surpass the dogmatic and stupid Jedi's way of using the Force without letting your emotions get in your way (which the Jedi Order was severely twisted by the ego, an emotion during the Prequels).

I'm going to say something controversial. I don't think there's one best lightsaber duelist. It's all situational. Age, experience, location, and mental state all play a part.

is it canon that windu defeated palpatine in saber combat? has it not been argued that vaapad itself is what deformed the emperor, windu siphoned dark side from palpatine who was no longer able to hold back the corrupting force he had been subduing...because if not windu would have defeated him prior to anakins intervention? if so...vaapad can not be underestimated...if this is not canon then...maybe so! but there are still many more reckless forms of saber combat including whatever the hell grievous was doing 🤣
