I have upgraded from a Series 4 to an Ultra 2 - very pleased with the Ultra 2 so far (and the significant battery improvements given that my Series 4 had a 78% battery capacity)! Whilst I can see the cost benefit of upgrading to an Ultra 1 as opposed to an Ultra 2, the new S9 chip will help to future proof your purchase and the price of a new/refurbished Ultra 1 is hardly on the cheap side.
So I have a gold series 4 with also 78% battery capacity. Toying with getting the ultra as live the bigger screen. Just not jumped yet, your situation is identical lol
Agreed! The future-proof nature of the S9 chip makes the Ultra 2 the better value long term. I jus got mine. Came from a Series 7 and WOW, what a difference. That's the same reason I waited and got the iPhone XS and not the X.....the first year is great to see the direction they are headed, but the second year they put in the things they wanted in the first year and for the next few years coming up.
The Ultra is termed as rugged but it’s a very stylish watch compared to the regular series 9 Apple Watch. It’s just looks so premium when worn. I love my new Ultra 2

I went from the Apple Watch S8 to the Ultra 2 and I'm glad I did. I was hesitant to get the Ultra before because of its size. But I've been loving this watch so far!
I got one to go with my 15 pro max and I’m loving it. I’ve only ever used android…since 2010. This is all very different for me but I can say I don’t see my self ever going back to android. This is shaping up to be an amazing experience. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.
You should do a review somewhere. I was a professional apple hater but I switched and I love Apple now. Yes I could do things on android I cant on apple… but I can actually live my life and use my phone/etc without a second thought with Apple; never got that on Android.
I also think the new iOS update for the Apple Watches makes you use your watch more, at least for me. I have the series 7 and been using it more because of the update,I especially like using it for remote starting my car without using my phone. Usually I don’t get Apple Watches with cellular cause that is just extra money for stuff that I would rather do on my phone,but I ended up getting it with this watch and decided to use it more often and same for the iPad which is a lot more useful with cellular. I may get the series 9, but don’t really need it. Though I do like the double tap feature.
I disagree with you for once. If I were getting a brand new watch, I would get the Ultra 2. The new S9 (first really new chip in several years) is worth it to future proof the watch. I tend to keep my watches until either the battery won't last at least a full day or the introduce some new health feature I want
I mean, the keynote told me that 😅😂 While the new sip changes and benefits exist, there was really no highlight feature other than the pinch thingy which isn’t out yet. And yeah extra bright screen but ive never felt my watch was too dim as a southern Cal resident. Id gladly take that extra brightness on my iPhone tho. Ive had more days where i could use just a bit more on my phone, but never with my watch

Ive decided to switch from garmin fenix 5s to ultra watch few months ago so i decided to wait for the ultra 2 ...not having the first model it was logical to go to the new model for just a little much more money... even if people here are saying that they are very similar...an important thing are not saying is that the ultra 2 has 64gb of storage which is significant upgrade over the original model...After a week using it my verdict is 9/10.
It’s my first Apple Watch ultra 2 in the uk and it’s taking me a little time to get use to the layout apps as some apps aren’t available on the watch that are on iPhone and the weight and size
I got it because the extra bucks buy the newer chip which I expect will handle more processor function. But yeah, I bought it for the health features and last years would have Dione fine.
I also upgraded from the Ultra uno The best improvement I like and use is the on device Siri. It’s nice to have more storage and a better chip to future proof. I enable airplane mode in the house so being able to launch apps or do basic things is nice without the internet. I think I’ll like and use the double tap. Wasn’t there a zombie movie called double tap 😂 I was disappointed there wasn’t a new color option but I can understand that it would have been more prone to getting scratches. The screen going down to 1 nit I haven’t really used it much in the dark but that is nice. I love the new modular watch face. I got 380 for my old watch as a trade in and Apple just credited me for that as I was quick to return it. Plus I got the new trail loop which is nice. I love watch OS 10 and iOS 17. Apple did good 😊 with those software improvements.
I have the 1 and 2 . It is not noticeable and really depends of the settings or functions you use. On low power mode and screen off, it’s the same . I ll keep my one and give back the 2
I’ve upgraded from a series 7 and I love the size of the screen and I can see more of the notifications. I’m partially sighted so this is a better size for me
I've had my Ultra 2 for over a month and I'm glad I upgraded my U1. The U2 is NOT a huge improvement over the U1, that’s for sure but I do appreciate having the 64 vice 32 GB! Going forward, I think the SiP9 is going to allow some future proofing and will certainly be supported for several years. This not the say I think the U1 was/is somehow an inferior Watch. I liked it and was glad I got it, but I feel the same about the U2. The Series X coming next year will probably mean a major re-design for Apple Watch overall and the rumors are hinting that the 9/U2 will be the last series to use the current watch bands. If that's important to you then you might want the 9/U2 in order to keep using your band collection for as long as possible. I'm in that group. That being the case moving to the U2 made sense to me. I also got $411 as trade in from Apple. For my son's upcoming 50th birthday, we bought him a U1, an upgrade from his Series 7! He likes it.
I’m still using my Series 3. The battery life is better know than when first got it. It now lasts for over 48 hours where I think I used to get about 30 hours. Anyway thinking about the series 9, Ultra or Ultra 2. Probably go Ultra 2 so I know the charging treatment.
I just need to ask, if I buy the U2, how would I know Apple is not selling me an U1? The same for 3rd party or personal venders that may purposely trick an inexperienced buyer to know where on the watch or whatever the version is?🥺
Add a gate to your signal chain on the audio if you have not. If you have a gate, raise the threshold. You can fix popping by playing with the attack/release. Compression too, but not enough time in the day to go through that here. lol. Friendly pointer.
I have the U1 that I bought from T-Mobile and getting $200 off over 24 months. I’ll be getting $380 trade in from Apple so I’m not paying full price. Why do it? The SiP9 is the main reason. The U1 SiP is three years old. Since I plan on keeping my U2 (once I get it) for the long haul, I want the latest and greatest. I like the 64GB of storage for music and other things. I like the Double Tap feature and the improved display. I also noticed just how much time is spent accessing the internet on the U1. I like that more will be done on the U2 itself. I also like that all my watch bands will continue to work. Not sure what’s coming but I plan on keeping the U2!
I’ll be honest I switched from my series 7 to an ultra and from an ultra to an ultra 2 in one and the same week. Bought a used ultra with 99% battery capacity and sold it for even more than I paid. I just wanted the double tap option and here I am super happy with my ultra 2 everything’s just great about it but as many people say it only makes sense to upgrade if you have a watch 5 or older or if you’re a stupid must-have-it-all like me

It’s a huge upgrade from my beater work watch series 3. Love my new Ultra 2. The battery life and huge flat screen is amazing. And anything made of titanium is so cool. Now just waiting for delivery of my iPhone 15 pro max in titanium too.
I’ve had the Ultra 1 for 13 months now and there’s nothing on the Ultra 2 that I miss not being on the 1. More ram… when do you notice less ram being an issue? I’ll wait for a major redesign but if that takes another two or three years, the Ultra 1 will be enough to do what I need.
A fellow series 3 user… it’s insanely light and no less comfortable switching from a 42 to 49 display, the battery life is more in line with a pebble watch then the older series 3 Apple Watch
Battery life has definitely improved. I can easily get three days where I could only get two and some change on my Ultra watch 1. I like having the largest tech.
Upgraded from a series 1 or rather the very very first release not even sure what they called it 💀. The truth is it is still functional and in pristine condition but I just wanted something newer with more functionality. Going from 42mm to 49mm is a big change it is so big and heavy to wear at night 😢.
I think that the ultra2 is better: 62gb vs 32gb , s9 better , quick and efficient. The doble tick. The 3000 nits. I had one ultra 1 and I shell it and buy the 2. And is better. In my opinion.
I recommend the Ultra 2 because I’ve noticed 15% longer battery Life, better software, smarter CPU, better GPS tracking for the out doors Lovers, brighter screen, brighter flashlight, Siri available, but it’s the same watch literally, but just different interior.
saving a couple of hundred on a used watch if stupid I would get a smaller new apple before that or does apple provide a warranty on refurbished? might consider that used is just that Used
There are some significant differences with the Ultra II. How can you say otherwise? The flashing alarm is a huge deal and I use it to wake up every morning. What's more, the color is customizable. It uses the heart rate sensor on the back of the watch. You can configure flash rate, intensity, and duration. You can also synch with a spotify tune. The feature also serves as a beacon. Very useful when camping. Also, the sensor protector is greatly improved. Again, you can customize this within the Settings and set parameters that make the protective barrier automatically cover the sensor at times you designate.
Hey Dad. It's my first smartwatch so it's alright. I've compared it with my colleague's Ultra1 and it's more brighter, and that's it. Prob the chip inside is new tech aka faster but who knows ?

The new chip in the ultra 2 is and will be a big thing in the future for sure! Faster quad CPU instead of the old school dual core! Big difference! Also more Ram and storage! The ultra 1 and all watches before 9 will be slower, starting from the next update! WatchOS 11

I have my Watch Ultra since October 2022 and I can’t be happier… watchOS 10 is great too…. I wear it with the Ocean Band yellow. The best one (I have the Trail Loop but I found it too flimsy for the Watch Ultra, even though I run a lot).
People need to stop asking apple to change everything every year. Leaving these watches as they are for some years is perfect! They have a full lineup of watches to choose from, so is not an smart move to make big changes every year. As an Ironman myself, I’m using the Ultra one, if they change form and features every year, leaving my Ultra as an old watch taking out functionality, I’ll jump to Garmin again in a heartbeat.
A little longer battery life and who doesn’t need that either Apple? A brighter screen, onboard Siri so if you don’t have your phone with you or have it in Airplane mode you can set timers, alarms and reminders, you can now access Apple health with it that you can’t on Ultra 1 and its processor is a little faster.
I can’t see the watch screen at night in dim environments, is anyone else having this issue? I have brightness at max and have difficulty reading at night. It’s just too dark.
Audio is distorted during phone calls. My brand new Apple Watch Ultra 2 makes cracking sounds when I make calls with the speaker volume at Max. Audio is distorted only during normal or FaceTime calls. The problem does not occur when recording or playing sounds from the speakers. It's never been in the water, I haven't even washed my hands while wearing it. It may be a software issue because the Apple Watch Ultra (1) had the same problem and it was solved with the watchOS 9.0.1 update. Apple then had the following note in said update: «This update includes improvements and bug fixes for your Apple Watch Ultra. Audio could be distorted during phone calls using speakers.» I hope that the problem will be solved again through a new update and that it is not a hardware problem. Finally I should note that until recently I had the Apple Watch Ultra (1) and it had no problems related to what I mention.
These comments drive me crazy! The Ultra 2 isn't meant for those that already have an Ultra. Its meant for those with now watch or older watches that are looking to upgrade. Are you going to trade in your 2023 car when the 2024 models come out???? Every once in a while the upgrade is significant enough to make it worthwhile for a year over year upgrade, but 9 times out of 10 it is not and was not meant to be. I do disagree with the video though. If I were getting a new watch I would get the 2. You may not be able to see a difference but the new S9 chip is worth the extra money to future proof a brand new watch in my opinion.

the only real difference is the Double Tap support, which is in itself, different from how the S9 handles it compares to its predecessors, but nothing really noteworthy that a potential new Apple Watch buyer can't live without.

Ultra2 is a Great upgrade from Series 5.
Ultra 1 doesn't have double-tap feature tho.
I recommend the Ultra 2 because I’ve noticed 15% longer battery Life, better software, smarter CPU, better GPS tracking for the out doors Lovers, brighter screen, brighter flashlight, Siri available, but it’s the same watch literally, but just different interior.

There are some significant differences with the Ultra II. How can you say otherwise? The flashing alarm is a huge deal and I use it to wake up every morning. What's more, the color is customizable. It uses the heart rate sensor on the back of the watch. You can configure flash rate, intensity, and duration. You can also synch with a spotify tune. The feature also serves as a beacon. Very useful when camping. Also, the sensor protector is greatly improved. Again, you can customize this within the Settings and set parameters that make the protective barrier automatically cover the sensor at times you designate.

Hey Dad. It's my first smartwatch so it's alright. I've compared it with my colleague's Ultra1 and it's more brighter, and that's it. Prob the chip inside is new tech aka faster but who knows ?
I am glad to hear this. I just bought the Ultra last March so have only had it 6 months and have no intention of switching yet. And I love the apple watch ultra!
The Ultra 2’s screen is significantly brighter.

The new chip in the ultra 2 is and will be a big thing in the future for sure! Faster quad CPU instead of the old school dual core! Big difference! Also more Ram and storage! The ultra 1 and all watches before 9 will be slower, starting from the next update! WatchOS 11

I wear it with the Ocean Band yellow. The best one (I have the Trail Loop but I found it too flimsy for the Watch Ultra, even though I run a lot).

People need to stop asking apple to change everything every year. Leaving these watches as they are for some years is perfect! They have a full lineup of watches to choose from, so is not an smart move to make big changes every year. As an Ironman myself, I’m using the Ultra one, if they change form and features every year, leaving my Ultra as an old watch taking out functionality, I’ll jump to Garmin again in a heartbeat.
A little longer battery life and who doesn’t need that either Apple? A brighter screen, onboard Siri so if you don’t have your phone with you or have it in Airplane mode you can set timers, alarms and reminders, you can now access Apple health with it that you can’t on Ultra 1 and its processor is a little faster.

I can’t see the watch screen at night in dim environments, is anyone else having this issue? I have brightness at max and have difficulty reading at night. It’s just too dark.

Audio is distorted during phone calls.
My brand new Apple Watch Ultra 2 makes cracking sounds when I make calls with the speaker volume at Max.
Audio is distorted only during normal or FaceTime calls. The problem does not occur when recording or playing sounds from the speakers. It's never been in the water, I haven't even washed my hands while wearing it.
It may be a software issue because the Apple Watch Ultra (1) had the same problem and it was solved with the watchOS 9.0.1 update.
Apple then had the following note in said update: «This update includes improvements and bug fixes for your Apple Watch Ultra.
Audio could be distorted during phone calls using speakers.»
I hope that the problem will be solved again through a new update and that it is not a hardware problem.
Finally I should note that until recently I had the Apple Watch Ultra (1) and it had no problems related to what I mention.
Having the Ultra 1 from day 1 the Ultra 2 was a hard pass. I’m actually surprised they even bothered. Maybe the 3 will offer a reason to upgrade!
These comments drive me crazy! The Ultra 2 isn't meant for those that already have an Ultra. Its meant for those with now watch or older watches that are looking to upgrade. Are you going to trade in your 2023 car when the 2024 models come out???? Every once in a while the upgrade is significant enough to make it worthwhile for a year over year upgrade, but 9 times out of 10 it is not and was not meant to be.
I do disagree with the video though. If I were getting a new watch I would get the 2. You may not be able to see a difference but the new S9 chip is worth the extra money to future proof a brand new watch in my opinion.
@@mjsabie8517 Well then you can be crazy lol. The point is you can still go to other retailers and buy new Ultra 1s for a nice discount. People complain the yearly iPhone update not much changes…the Ultra 2 takes that to a new level.
@@mjsabie8517 exactly... and if you purchased a $800 Ultra 1 just a year ago you would be in the dumps if they made a significant leap in the next model and priced it at $800 leaving your once fancy Ultra 1 in the technology dumpster bin. That's a terrible strategy for brand loyalty.
the only real difference is the Double Tap support, which is in itself, different from how the S9 handles it compares to its predecessors, but nothing really noteworthy that a potential new Apple Watch buyer can't live without.
