    Nicely done, not the hardest chalange for a strong picker like your good self.
    With 7 pins and some extreme biting,the lock did seem to let itself down,

      I’m not exactly sure why it wasn’t too hard, but a more paracentric keyway would make it super hard I’m sure

    I think LOTO locks are plastic mostly just to save weight. A lot of guys carry them on their belt loop all day. As a bonus, it's not conductive. The high pin count greatly decreases the chances of someone else having the same key.
    The hardened shackle and security pins have always been a mystery to me. They're great to pick, though! The unsprung core helps with the feel a lot.
    I've over rotated a few. It sucks.

    These guys along with the 90A-PRO are both little beasts. I ordered one of each and they both have really good bitting with some very high cuts way in the back hiding behind some really low cuts. I have beat both of these locks several times, but I seem to have lost my mojo. The ones I have a re very odd. If I apply almost any tension then the pins bind up tightly, I can apply pressure to a pin and remove all tension and the pin still will not move. I basically have to just barely hold the tensioner in place to get a successful pick. Yours seemed to have some nice clicks and clunks, mine more or less whispers a little bump when a pin is set, oversetting is very easy.

    Was expecting a bit more of a tussle, given the bitting. But still an excellent job, sir. It always makes me grumpy when the manufacturers make it so one must destroy the lock to see the insides. Oh well, i trust your description of the pins and springs.

  • @libertarian1637

    Locked out or tagged out - it’s locked out and tagged out as you use both the tag with your information on it and locked out with as many locks as people working in a multiple custody arrangement such that everyone must remove their locks before it can be energized, open/closed, or used. LOTO is a great system and required industrially and commercially; I don’t understand the resistance of some to use it residentially given the safety and piece of mind it adds. If only some of the lock manufacturers used the LOTO cores in other than cheap plastic lock bodies as in my experience they tend to be of much hire security then their “secure” side lock products; master lock comes to mind.

      These are lockout locks and are colored so you can easily find yours when there are a dozen or more attached to a single switch. As an industrial electrician (retired) I've seen switches before with 20 locks on them. One for each company stays on till the work is complete, and one for each and every man working on it until their shift ends...and the last lock off is the safety supervisors.
      Often they also only lock the switch with one lock, but the only key is kept in a lock box with everyone's lockout on it. To avoid having 50 lbs of locks on the switch.

    I wonder if you can specify bitting on these like you can with other Padlocks?🤔
    Maybe if the one I get has poor bitting I'll look into it or maybe just get one of the regular 90a pro or whatever and specify some tough bitting. Anyway, great pick Noob.👍

    I did just that with that lock. Its not a skeletonized core but if you don't pay attention and rotate it the wrong way after picking, the driver pins will shoot into the keyway. Then you get to hacksaw down the seam and split it open to change it back from rattle mode to lock mode. Lesson learned. Also I've never picked it in under about 5 minutes. Not gonna lie, I got mad just for a second when yours popped open so quick.

      If the pins are still partway in the bible, you can push them all back up with a small straight edge inserted in the keyway. The handle of your tension wrench works well.
      If not, you can use one of those clamp on shims to hold them, and replace the springs and pins one at a time.
      It's a long tedious task, but you can save your lock.

    Sounds like the LOTO Master lock is better.

    Yep, nice lock... Yep, pins spill out, Yep, if one is careful, one can split the lock, recover the pins, re-pin the lock, and glue it back together again. Guess how I know?
    BTW, Pac Lock is a great company located about 8 miles from my house. Really nice, deep product line for a lot of cores and lock bodies. Their puck locks are amazing... redesigned via lots of commentary by the locksport community.

    • @JohnSmith-gs4lw
      @JohnSmith-gs4lw 4 роки тому

      Agree with all. Paclock makes excellent products all the way around. And they listen to their customers, which is exceedingly rare. If you really want a goof proof LOTO lock, look at the Brady locks. They are made by Abus and you can easily disassemble them with a screw down the shackle hole, just like many other padlocks. They are still plastic body locks and look similar to this Packlock and the Master 410. They do have a cavernous keyway (shaped in the silhouette of the word BRADY) so they are no challenge in that regard. Nice to be able to use those 0.025 picks though!

    Don't over rotate the core in a LOTO lock. Yep, learned that the hard way with a Master! Still, putting the pins back in was an interesting first foray into lock stripping!

    • @Tokyo-go2du
      @Tokyo-go2du 4 роки тому

      I can't tell if the "rotation" caused explosive structural failure or if the pins just somehow came flying out in pure paranormal fashion right now

      @@Tokyo-go2du To make the shell of the lock they drill holes all the way through the bottom and into the bible, so if you rotate the core by a full 180 degrees the key pins fall out of the bottom of the shell and into the plastic body of the padlock. It gets messy!

    Cool lock. Thanks for the tip. That has happened to me before when I was dismantling locks. I guess it's a learning curve we all have to learn. The worst one was a Multilock PiP core that I didn't realise didn't have an outer shell (the lock body itself holds all the pins and springs in). I never did get that lock back together, as I lost some of the inner pins and the tiny springs.

    Well done! With that bitting I thought it would be hard to reach that last pin deep enough without over setting one of the deep cuts.
    Good point about the possibility of holes the backside of the plug. I have seen many plugs/cylinders with those holes and have a theory about them. I believe they are there not as a trap for pickers although they work that way, but are merely due to the way the cylinder and bible are made. I think they simply drill from the bottom right through the cylinder into the bible to make the holes, so it ensures they all line up perfectly and you don't need any top access to the bible to assemble it.
    On cylinders made this way but meant to rotate 180° those holes are filled in but still visible where they were.

    • @penfold7800
      @penfold7800 4 роки тому +1

      I think you're right. I have a couple of hardened steel bodied replaceable core padlocks from Wilko's (before they started selling mastercrap) and the cores in those are exactly the same. In fact, that's exactly how I repinned the cores after all the pins fell out!. I was manipulating the removed core to see what position it needed to be in so the tailpiece lined up with the actuator for the ball-bearing mechanism, which itself was an utter pain to get back in with the spring in the right place. I had to hold the shackle partially open to be able to slide the core in. A very delicate operation. Imagine how 'annoying" it was when all the pins fell out of the sodin core! grrrr
