I know you always say sorry it’s been awhile since the last video you been busy and I get that, but you should make more when you can. your videos saved me so much time and headache
Distance between top of water pump base and center of hole, must be as specified below. Turn shift shaft clockwise to decrease distance or counter clockwise to increase distance. Short 419mm (16-1/2 in.) Long 559mm (22 in.) Extra Long 698mm (27-1/2 in.) (it's from the service manual)
New subscriber here...Great vids for fixing up my old 6 HP 2 stroke. Thanks for getting these out there. I have a question...it appears some of these small outboards have an adjuster at the throttle cam and some don't. Mine doesn't have the adjuster and any microfiche I can access on line doesn't show it as a part...what gives? Thx again.
I really like your video's and thanks for taking the time to put them online for us. I have a 1998 9.9 Mercury two stroke like the one you were working on in a previous video. I need some help with getting the throttle and the shift linkage reinstalled correctly. There are two springs that are mounted on the plate and i'm not sure how to reinstall them and then mount the assembly to the outboard. Could you help with that? I will pay you for your help. Thanks
Just a idea for future videos next time you get one of these merc 9.9hp or 15hp in. How to check cdi box for proper resistance, stator resistance, coil resistance, which direction the seals go on drive shaft water pump lower housing, setting timing, prop shaft seal replacement orientation of the seals. These are all ideas for future videos and are all the common questions you see time after time on the forums.
I just replaced my water pump kit ordered from this description. Seemed to match perfectly. . I have a 40hp tracker Mercury 2002/2003. Put everything back how it came off and re connected shift linkage but now my motor doesn’t find the neutral although throttle is in neutral. Previously anywhere in neutral I could start. Now I have to move the throttle super slow in the neutral gear back and forth in its play room while holding key turned and sometimes it starts and sometimes it’s just dead and never attempts to turn. It doesn’t attempt to crank at all till it finds a spot in the neutral while holding key turned to start. so it never cranks till finds a spot moving throttle back and forth in neutral, then it does sometimes and cranks and starts. Any ideas?
What if the lower unit is in gear? How do you get it into neutral? I can't get the shift rod down that low even though it's clear it needs to be lower.
my 9.9 2 stroke shifts into reverse fine and revs but the prop if only enaging some of the time but constantly slipping is that the shift rod out of adjustment or somthing else? the boat wont even slightly move when its reving up , thanks
Help if you can. I'm working on a friends Mariner serial number 0c230640. I think it is a long shaft motor but not sure. I have tried 16.5 on the shift rod. But with that setting it wants to pop into gear on it's own. The other measurement looks to long. Any suggestions? And I can not get it to shift into Reverse.
Hi there Martin. Loving the videos which has helped me a lot on my mid 90s 9.9 2 stroke Merc. I have a bogging issue with my motor which seems to be common with these motors. I have had a full service done on the lower unit, new impeller, thermostat, plugs, vacuum lines, rebuilt carb. Seems to run okay low end and cruising but starts bogging when given more juice. I have no idea what to try next. I took it out and tried giving a squirt of crc in the carb when it was bogging identify if it was a fuel issue. But I believe it is not as it started to die when I squirted the crc in. So I’m unsure of what to try next but my research is indicating that it might be low spark? Please help 😅

Thanks for the straight to the point video, much appreciated.
I wish I saw this BEFORE I put the bottom end back together! Thanks!
lol me too now my motor is in pieces and an easy job just turned into a few hours (hopefully)
Same bro haha
Thank you! Been struggling to figure out the length of my shift rod. I can’t wait to put it back together.

Will this be the same for a 25hp mariner
That's Martin I'm going to put a new water pump in my 03 15hp murcey.🤓
Is it 16.5 inches to the top, center or bottom of the hole? Thanks
How do you get that prop back into neutral

watched your video on impeller rebuild and it pretty much answered all my questions. Thanks,
Im having the same issue, did you ever find a solution?
Same issue here
does a 2 stroke 5 hp 1991 mariner outboard have a thermostat
thank youu !

Mine too, the prop spins freely and turning the gear shift spline shaft does not help. Did you ever find out how to re-gain gear engagement??
