Solid performance from 2 of the best bullet designs. 165gr is the sweet spot for .40cal maybe 135-155gr for short barrel. Always glad to see some AZA gel testing in my ballistic feed.
Thank you buddy, always appreciate u checkin em out!! Should have a bunch of stuff comin. Absolutely agree though, can't go wrong with either, both did great. Thank you again😁👍.
Thank you very much I appreciate that a lot!! Was definitely a fun one and good to see how well they both did in the sub compact. Thanks again buddy!! Plenty comin😁👍.
I like your presentation of these tests AZ. I just happened to get a 3" 40 S&W barrel set for my Bond Arms Texas Defender on Thursday and put twp P40HST3 165 grain loads in the little beast, figuring they'd work well in the short barrel, so this test caught my attention. I haven't shot it with the 40 barrels yet but figure it may have less felt recoil than the 3" 45 ACP or 3.5" 357 magnum. I also still like and have my 40 S&W guns, including a G27. Thanks for posting these informative videos.
Well done as always. It is very difficult to choose one over the other. Both are equally consistent and effective. I am carrying the Gold Dot in both my 40s(3.5" & 4.25") at this time. I picked up a few hundred HST 165s recently at a good price. So I will likely rotate to them this year if they prove reliable. Impressive stills and cross sections. Thank you Sir.
Thank you very much!! Absolutely agree, can't go wrong with either. Great choice for carry.. I remember u saying u carried the GD a while back and had to put em to the test in the short barrel. Was good to see them both do so well. Two of the best for sure. Thanks as always my friend I appreciate ya!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
Yessir I sure have, both full size and sub compact tests. I will link it. Was definitely some warm stuff. I will have it verses 10mm here soon. Thanks for the 40S&W test with awesome ammo. The HST is my favorite followed by the Winchester 165 Defender. The 165 grainers hit the sweet spot for weight with expansion.
Thank you, I appreciate u checkin it out!! Great choice, the HST definitely did awesome. I will have a 165gr pdx1/defender test up soon for ya. Thanks again!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
Thank you my friend, I appreciate u checkin it out!! Was awesome to see them do so well in the sub, definitely a fun test. Absolutely agree .40 ftw💯. Thanks again buddy!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
Nice to have a new video to enjoy. My go to round in .40 is underwood 150gr nosler jhp, but heard that they have been discontinued by underwood. Im really bummed about that, oh well. Hope you have a wonderful day my friend.
Thank you sir!! Bummer, I wasn't able to grab any before that happened.. I will keep an eye out for em though, would be a fun and interesting test. Thanks as always my friend!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
@@AzAirgunner. I actually called underwood and spoke to Sandy one of the sales reps and she confirmed that the 150gr .40 with the nosler round has been discontinued. But the 155gr with the XTP round is still in production. I personally don't care for the XTP's. I found one company that still had 4 boxes in stock, and I bought all of them. So I have 9 boxes to last me. Just wanted to let you know. As usual hope you have a wonderful day.

I'm a retired Deputy Sheriff of 27 years also a SWAT commander and firearms instructor. I did the ammo testing for the department for over 20 years. I found that the xtp did not expand if the velocity was not high enough reliably. And sometimes penetrationed to much if full expansion was not met. Now I'm talking law enforcement needs. For the average edc it works just fine. But I still preferred the nosler, it expanded more reliably through most barriers and penetration was more in the 12-16 inch range. Thanks for the response and hope you have a wonderful day.
Now it's a matter of actually finding the rounds. I have the Speer Gold Dots but can't find the Federal HSTs, so the decision is made for me by the supply issue. Would you please test the 180 grain Gold Dots out of the short barrel?
@@paulscountry456 Thank you very much!! I try to make it before sunrise to get that spot and setup everything to try to get the best lighting I can for the videos😁.
Thank you buddy I appreciate that!! Yes I did, thank you very much for letting me know and sharing the info, very much appreciated. Sorry I haven't gotten back to ya yet, been super busy. I will definitely try to get my hand on some🤞. Would be a fun test for sure. Thank you again my friend!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
357sig adds 250 fps + to velocities (but with a 125 grain bullet) and 100+ ft/lbs of energy...to put things in perspective..speed is energy..energy is the ability to do work
Thank you, I appreciate u checkin it out!! They both felt pretty similar in this test. The 155gr usually give me the most recoil/snap with the .40 compared to the 165~180gr, Still very manageable but u could tell u really have somethin. Thanks again!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
ranger-T 180s are pretty weak...that's the round that jared reston guy shot his attacker with multiple times with no stop. i would not carry a 180gr load in .40, ever. Most of the "caliber wars" 9mm guys saying that 9=.40 come from the underperformance of .40 rounds in the 180gr class. 40 was the "truth" when they were using 155s. With 180s you start seeing the same multiple-shots-to-stop situation- it's because they have no real energy advantage over 9 in a lot of cases
Glad you’re testing 40. I have a bunch of 9s but the more I watch and read, the more I carry 40 and 10mm.
...and 357 Sig!
Thank you I appreciate u checkin it out!! The .40 and 10mm are awesome, can't go wrong with either. Both great choices.

Have you tested the Underwood 135gr. Nosler hp? They are pushing 357 sig velocities. Another great video brother! Thanks for all you do.

The xtp is a better bullet than the nosler. The 155xtp will fold the jacket back behind the base, so full expansion and will penetrate deeper.

I opened a box of these 165 grain hst and they were full of hydrashok instead of hst. Crazy as hell
Damn what website did you get them from so I can know not to shop there

That is good velocity to open those and really people are using those subs more than full size so great to use the sub.
Using the sun like you do to illuminate the block is great , best view of those tracks .

Did you get the velocity on the tshirt coming back?
The chronograph subtracts t-shirt blowback velocity from total muzzle bullet velocity. Simple math bro
I keep the 180 grain HST in my Duty size gun. Good stuff:-)
Nice, great choice. I will have a test up soon of the 180gr. Thanks for checkin this one out!!
Any reason to choose 165 over 180 grain?
defund the atf who agrees
Most certainly
Good video 👍
You mentioned that the HST was a bonded bullet ? I didn’t think HST was a bonded bullet ?
Did I miss somethin? The Chrono says 1000 sumthn, and you're sayin it 11 somethin
Nice.
