Instead of partying on the weekends, I was working on cars- and I loved it. Since starting youtube, I have started what I call Ecrew. Emelia, if you're going to TIG weld stainless steel you need to back purge your welds. There are simple kits out there from companies like TICON Industries, that include plugs that enable you to plug each end of the tubing, and then you connect an argon hose to these plugs so that you're flowing argon thru the tube while you TIG weld. If you don't do this your weld will have porosity and sugaring on the inside of the tube. This will lead to a less strong weld, loss of corrosion resistance, and obstructions to your flow inside the tube.
    This process is not difficult to do, especially with these custom products designed specifically for back purging stainless exhaust components.

    • @user-zj2mb3sp3x
      @user-zj2mb3sp3x Рік тому +1

      @@jamesanderson8342 The issue with using solar flux and products like it is that it forms a glass like slag on the inside of the tubing. Although you can get away with this in some applications, if you're making a header that will go into a turbo, or an intake or sanitary tubing like for a brewery or food processing plant you'll need to back purge, thusly back purging is a great process to have in your toolbox for when its needed.

    For the CEL issue; plug the valves into the harness and start the car, see if the codes pop up. Odds are it think the valves failed and due to how they tune the car, its playing it safe. Other than that, the car will have no way of telling the exhaust is different. Theres no back pressure sensors, just o2 sensors from what i can see. So if the o2 sensors are getting the proper air flow and they arent designed to be post cat, they should be fine.

    • @Steve-Mcgarrett
      @Steve-Mcgarrett Рік тому +5

      The O2 sensors could be getting a higher airflow reading. These stupid new cars can't be tuned by a lot of programs! So annoying... HP Tuner for example just good for American stuff. For the valves connect them back up and cable tie them to the the hangars or something

      @@Steve-Mcgarrett A wideband sensor like the ones on these cars (4 wire) cannot measure air velocity or pressure. They measure a air fuel mixture. If a wideband sensor could read velocity and pressure, no one with a car newer than 2007 would be able to add more power or flow without the car tossing up a dozen or so codes. I can almost promise you that the codes being thrown are all related to the exhaust valve. Unless, again, those sensors we are seeing are supposed to be post cat. Which, considering the cats from factory are AFTER the sensors, is not the case.

    I’m sure there’s more to it being a much more complicated vehicle, but I was going to say the same thing as others about the exhaust valves. Even changing a cat back exhaust on a C8 z51 or Hellcat (from personal experience) they will throw codes. Aftermarket usually gives you options to reinstall the factory actuators or a delete kit which simply tricks the car into thinking your valves are installed/opened.

      They're completely fine with it. Ferrari will always be Ferrari; they are a wealthy person's first choice for a vehicle specifically because of the image that Ferrari was careful to cultivate. Compare that to Lamborghini which is widely considered gauche and only driven by "new-money" types which actually wealthy people want nothing to do with.

    • @PhilG999
      @PhilG999 Рік тому +1

      Maybe plugging the valves back into the harness might do it. I don't know Ferrari's but on my newer GM cars the CAN bus makes everything "talk" to everything else. One thing out of spec here interferes with something you would think was totally unrelated. For example, on my '05 Grand Prix GT2 the alternator went because the battery died and overworked it. Ever see an alternator read 200 degrees+F with an IR thermometer? Damn thing hasn't quite got 30,000 miles on it (I inherited it when Pop passed in 2015) DIC showed "Charging System Failure". Scanned it and got out the 6" thick stack of service manuals (yeah, I have them). How in the HELL is the starter considered part of the Charging System? That's one thing I DIDN'T have to replace!
      The '99 GTP is a LOT simpler (and the Supercharger gives 40 more horsepower).🤔

    • @pootmahgoots8482

      @@PhilG999 yeah man. I know a few other cars that have active exhaust valves where if you unplug the motors it will throw a code because the valves are coming up as missing and can't open under accel. Not sure if that's the case here with the 296 but it sounds similar.

    So, whenever I have to weld or torch around anything sensitive, I use either refrasil or spun/woven kevlar heat repelling/flame retarding cloth, which I discovered by working in the film industry as a Key Grip, protecting from super hot lighting equipment. Any sparks are immediately arrested within the cloth. The black spun/woven kevlar cloth can be held between your hand and a torch without experiencing any flame, heat or spark transfer. It's very expensive, but it lasts forever and can be reused over and over. It's around 250.00/yard. Refrasil is cheaper and will do most anything required during car work. This is especially important when working around fuel tanks, lines, and intakes. Be careful!

Emilia has ZERO respect for the brand and marque, which she initially displayed by destroying her absolutely perfect (before she touched it) 458. Here we go again, as true Ferrari aficionados watch in horror as another perfect car get butchered by an idiot UA-camr. The owner of that car has just lost close to $100k in market value by letting a non-factory certified technician touch the car. That’s just NOT done. She’ll never be allowed to purchase a new one with her record of disrespect for the brand. Hope it’s worth it. Probably is, she’s more in love with freakin Mustangs than Ferraris. Genius. smh

I do like seeing good maps and modifications in these vehicles but I hope you/the owner of this car wont face any problem, coz this engine is gonna take all that tweaks which you are gonna perform which might doesn't make any sense considering the fact that this car has it's own symphony. All the best Emelia.

    Ok now from what I can find being a bit more savy than most people or mechanics the part where you messed up is the E valving your removed from the exhaust is needed it actually holds the car at temp in the exhaust along with function as a back pressure regulator and pipe temp control the valving is actually pretty smart it'll close during Rpm or load variable and it's not just controlling tone they're using it as an advanced measuring device. Yes remove restrictions in a turbo application it makes better sound and frees it up more power but down low controlling the back pressure helps control boost numbers and use to build reversion and heat into the system making a more efficient system. The car period will freak out cut the exhaust back up stick the E valving back in like close to the stock location and keep the rest of your custom exhaust and done will bet Sandies left leg on it

  • @kimballscarr
    @kimballscarr Рік тому

    Ok… what is going on is the lack of back pressure is increasing airflow in the inlet during cam overlap and/or effecting the turbos and there output and/or changing the EGR flow. I suspect it is the EGR thing… and would start there…. see you are going to have to increase exhaust pressure so the EGR flow balances somewhere close to stock. Remembering you decreased the exhaust back pressure after the turbos… which will affect the pressure in the exhaust before the turbos. Likely reduced engine performance. And, reduced the volume and pressure of the EGR flow into the inlet.
    Usually, EGR flow is calculated and mapped in the ECU using EGR valve position indication and the signal from the Inlet Mass Flow Air sensors output, i.e. inlet airflow. That will throw all kinds of codes because it changes the emission mix of gases, likely increasing NOx, and definitely a EGR flow as well as an inlet airflow code or problem. The other problem is the ECU sees an increase in NOx correlated to the other emissions, performance, and other sensors of all kinds. And, the signals from the removed cats will defiantly be another issue. Not the engine won’t be capable of mechanically running! It just won’t electronically correlate to the mapped conditions it was developed to.
    My suggestion is put the stock system back on the car…. And, simply tune the exit of the exhaust system to increase noise… remember you have a lot of exhaust flow to work with. I’d design a new exit to be a cone tube with about a 10 degree divergence angle per side 20 degrees total then place another smaller cone in that either a 5 degree per side or 10 degree total divergence angle Important the sizing should be where the smaller cone small end is OD about 7/8th to no less than 3/4the size of the small end of the larger outer cone. I would make smaller cone small OD end .9 the size of the outer ID small end. Tune by moving the inner small cone in small increments out or back inside the outer cone which will adjust exhaust flow proportion between the cones and tune the sound GOOD LUCK !
