Swami Sarvapriyananda is a Hindu monk belonging to the Ramakrishna Order. He is the current resident Swami and head of the Vedanta Society of New York, a position he has been serving since January 2017. He grew up in Bhubhaneshwar in the Indian state of Odisha. From childhood onwards, he was inclined towards spirituality and was inspired by the lives of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda. His family was also devoutly religious, who were initiated devotees in the Ramakrishna Order tradition. Swami Sarvapriyananda has stated that his first goal in life was to become a pilot and the second was to find God, with the second goal later becoming his only goal. After passing school, he completed his Business Management degree from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. Sarvapriyandanda joined the Ramakrishna Order in 1994 and took his monastic vows in 2004.
Swami Sarvapriyananda served as assistant minister of the Vedanta Society of Southern California in 2015. He was later appointed head of the Vedanta Society of New York, a position he has been serving since 6th January 2017. He was also selected as a Nagral Fellow for the year 2019-20 at Harvard Divinity School.
    ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.

    3. Consciousness manifested itself in so many ways in different forms, living and non living. When I realize the fact that I am Consciousness, then why is there so much constant struggle to get enlightened and liberated and get back to my original state (based on transactional reality, as defined in adwait vedanta)? Karmic baggage has been accumulated unconsciously. What is the simplest or easiest way to dissolve the karmic structure completely?

Always a privilege listening to Swami ji.
Each of his answers were so loaded and could have been a single episode if not more. I found we hopped through variety of very different and loaded topics without digging further on his responses. The meditation was a good conclusion and helped reinforce the 5 sheet body topic though…
After reading few comments, my worry is touching such deep topics at such surface level subjects vedantic knowledge to mockery. People who would have heard him or advait for the first time may not appreciate the wisdom.
The questions were brilliant but each could have been dealt with more conversation.
Nevertheless, great guest and some food for thought for me to go back and study deeper!

If we can encapsulate consciousness into a microchip then everything in the world can be made conscious and interact with us not just AI. 2. When buddha was enlightened, how he could not see consciousness as poornam?

  • @vijaybob11
    @vijaybob11 2 місяці тому

    1. You should not have asked difference between good and trying to be good. But, as said that good and bad are relative, so for a person you are considering bad, in that bad person view, he may not be bad but good. That bad person may also be thinking that he is more spiritual than the so called good. Good and bad doesn't exist in spirituality. Now, how tendencies (samskara) develop when good and bad do not exist and it gets transferred also from life to life and then how tendencies play role in award and punishment game of next birth, when tendencies cannot be decoded into good and bad, that should have been your question. I want to say that how acquired tendencies can give results in terms of reward and punishment as tendency is a habit but being born as physically handicapped is not related to acquired tendencies?

How can the subtle body survive the death if it is changing ? It is impossible because its parts had a birth. Even in the Upanishad is said that after death there is no more ideation. Memory cannot be transmitted, the only immortal entity is the Consciousness because it is trascendent and had no birth. Only its relection in the mind had a birth and will die along with the mind. Some elements of the subtle body can be transmitted in some misterious way, but they are not the individual, like your nail is not your body, just part of it.

Swami Sarvapriyananda Maharaj is from Ramakrishna Mission and Math. And this math and mission welcomes everyone even you are atheist. Because the founder of this math and mission , Swami Vivekananda told in his new beliefs that who doesn't believes on god is not an atheist, but who doesn't believe on himself is atheist. So there is nothing wrong to be atheist spiritually, still you can get enlightenment through your daily life.

    4. There is a Darwin theory for evolution of physical body. How subtle body evolved? How vedanta will explain evolution of subtle body? Whether subtle body of man after death can go to animal body? How subtle body choose physical body for new life? Why everyone forgets past life when subtle body takes new body though impressions are there? Why nature does formatting? Why things are not open and fair by nature/consciousness? Why alone guess work in different religions? True things must have been common in all religions. But that's not the case in spirituality.

@AmiraAroraOfficial It will not be a very pleasant situation, if our consciousnesses are really immortal. There will be crisis for food, cloth and shelter. When Ram left human body by drowning in Saruju river along with lakh of his followers, Bramha had to give order to construct more houses in heaven for their staying. Hence, it is better to be mortal than immortal of Sarbapriyananda.

    5. If a Person suffering from amnesia, say as an extreme case, has lost 100% memory which will not fall in deep sleep example also as the person is aware without memory and not in zero dream state also. So, can we say that the person has lost mind and free from mind or karmic baggage and thus enlightened and liberated? A person losing 100% memory due to some accident, means definitely some nerve in brain or elsewhere is responsible for thinking. Which is that physical nerve in the brain that can think? Whether that nerve which thinks and mind are the same? Whether it is the pineal gland which is responsible for thinking?

IF you say that Jnana Yoga is Advaita vedanta---- what is the use of his Jnana yoga in this process of liberation? Give knowledge about the true nature of Brahman. This knowledge is given to who ultimately? There is no one except Brahman in Advaita Vedanta. At the same time You say that Brahman is always liberated. Also what form of Jnana will give that liberation.
Hence purpose of Jnana Yoga itself will fail in Advaita vedanta. Knowledge given or eradicate ignorance can happen only with two real entities. Else whole process will be a prattle.
Visistadavita-------- We are not part of Brahman-- we are inseparable with Brahman - visistadvaita propounder Ramanuja was the first vedanta acharya who embraced various disciples from non-brahmins.
He administered---- schools, feeding poor, without caste discrimination.
Brahma satya and Jagat Mithya- is said by Buddha and Shankaracharya.
Ramakrishna means mithya is attachment towards world-- Not the world itself------ Sri Ramakrishna gives beautiful example of Bel-fruit-- Brahman, living souls and matter are inseparable as one- non-dual
Shankaracharya advaita - is same as Yogachara school of Buddhism-- which states the consciousness only all else is like dream
Why would consciousness has a dream of suffering and tries to eradicate with Jnana yoga?
    ALso
Free will--- all souls have free will when that will is in exact frequent with God's will----- In advaita vedanta-- Free will and possessor free will both does not exist at all eternally- It is just illusion or false
Swamiji states this in his lecture-- 'Realisation ' jnana yoga-- he concludes.
Then we shall find that we are in the Real, and that Reality is God, and He
is our own true nature, and He is always in us and with us. Let us live in Him
and stand in Him. It is the only joyful state of existence. Life on the plane of the
Spirit is the only life, and let us all try to attain to this realisation
Please observe-- Living souls finding themselves separable is against the free will----- When we always live in God our separateness becomes inseparable. This is organic unity

Advaita Vedanta is valid (Truth is One) but I feel it misses the point. The point is that it is not good to be alone which is why there is Life.
