Hey everyone, this is obviously a sensitive video for a few different reasons but I hope that you watch it with an open mind and enjoy an unusual story that I think is rarely told. Either way, I’m happy you’re here 🙏

So for anyone watching in 2024- Noor is ok! He made it to Australia, after fleeing during the fall of Kabul. Heres to hoping 2024 sees Afghanistan recover :)
Thank you for letting us know! I’m watching this episode about 3 1/2 years after it was made and I wondered what happened to Noor and his plans for the shelter and school.
Thanks for telling us. I would love to have updates on things like in this video where I wounder what happened to the ideas and people yes theorie met and contributed to. I would have loved to see a follow up about the school project. But the circumstances changed again and it´s good to know Noor is safe.
I am from Afghanistan, and the media makes the country seem 10 times worse than it actually is. It is a beautiful and the people are amazing. Thank you brother for visiting my home. You are one of the few who is showing us recognition.
Hasib Omar you'd be surprised at the amount of people who also have huge dislike for the MSM, bad press only showing the bad side of the country, politicians & invaders who have taken advantage of your lands for many years. Then the Americans in the 50's ended up Changing the water table & making the water salty, therefore giving the poppy a great place to grow. I watched a documentary/film by Adam Curtis called Bitter Lake & really changed opinions. 👍🏼👍🏼
To be fair this showed how sick western culture has become. the arrogance and ignorance of western people the last couple decades has skyrocketed. People here cant even be nice to eachother anymore. I’d love to visit afghanistan quickly.
I’m sure it’s a beautiful place I’d love to visit Afghanistan some day. The media and news builds a narrative they want us to believe. It’s super annoying.
Been there, definitely a beautiful country, but definitely had a distaste for how women and children are treated. Was in shajoy, kandahar, helmand, argandob (sorry if i spelled that wrong). Definitely a lot of crappy stuff i saw but granted i was in the military and if you go looking for trouble youll find it Anywhere you go. Really wish that part of the world would rebound, it is very beautiful.
Honestly, still probably wasn't the best move to give him the camera. I know he just wanted to try it, but every kid "just wants to try it" and I'm sure it probably wouldn't make for a fun story to say: "I went to Afghanistan and I got my camera stolen" which in all honesty was probably the most likely scenario. Thankfully it wasn't this time though

you cannot believe how thankful i am for this video. all my ancestors are afghan and even my parents grew up there but i was born and lived in germany my whole life. they tell me stories about afghanistan but i never really knew what it was like. most of the stories my dad tells me are of when he was younger and i kept thinking that he was one of these kids you showed. when you showed the kites flying around i started crying because my dad told me that he always used to do that and just seeing all these stories becoming true is so insane and emotional for me, thank you
Such a pleasure to share this journey with you bro. It changed my life to travel to a country like Afghanistan with someone else and share these magical moments. Can’t wait to do it all over again somewhere else soon 🙏❤️
I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010-11, and I loved the people and culture. This video brought me to tears thinking about the people I met from there that I'll never see again.
@Деки Because Pakistan supports the Taliban and ISIS? If the US leaves, Afghanistan will just fall under Taliban control. That means no education, infrastructure, freedom of thought and religion, etc. Either way Afghanistan is a lost cause unfortunately. The government only cares about money and takes taliban bribes. No country but Afghanistan can fix that. Unless there is a coup.
It's so painful to see this video right now after that Talibans have taken over control of all Afghanistan. May God will bless this people and give them peace and love and education for everyone
My sentiments exactly. They mentioned their concerns about the Taliban taking over during the interview. It's now happened. What a beautiful culture and proud people, my heart dropped thinking about them today.

I am Afghan and I was born in Afghanistan 🇦🇫. I am ashamed to say that I haven’t done a percent of kindness towards my country that you have done by making this video, giving the people a chance, helping Noor with his school. I used to think that the only sensible and lucky 🍀 afghans were the ones that got out, but now I understand that we were just the ones that were not brave enough to stay and make a difference. I deeply desire to help our mother land, my home. The idea of changing something so damaged felt so difficult and impossible that I abandoned it absolutely and I have made America my new home, This video has given me so much to think about.
I’m 11 and although I’m norwegian, I wanna become a politician. You might wonder, why is that important? Well my thought is that if I’m a politician I have allot of power, if I have allot of power and might I can use it for the better, I might be able to persuade my home country to help poorer countries like Senegal and Afghanistan, although it’s not that simple, I hope I can atleast make a difference.
For people who are asking, I had a chat with Noor and he is doing ok right now, as of August 15. He is applying for visa to leave Afghanistan with his family and the process should take a couple of days. Hope everything goes well for them.
Judging by how quickly things deteriorated in the last couple days it could get far worse in a couple of more days so I do hope they can get out and the taliban won't prevent people from leaving.
You just gonna love it throughout... Like you will eventually become a better and better day by day... These guys are soo close to my heart idk how to say but yess this is how it is
Part of me feels like that was a big underlying motivator for different cultures to try and control and invade them over time. As a beautiful unique and established culture like this is one is often threatening to those who are insecure or unhappy with their own culture, and so instead of embracing the gifts that it could bring to the world instead they choose to try and control it, destroy it or make it their own.
@@adjjal youre definitely correct about that. places like the middle east and many parts of africa are so "behind" and its all thanks to what the bigger fish did to them hundreds of years ago, and in some cases recently. its horrible we cant just embrace our differences.

His heart is so pure. When he let the kid take the camera and record the person filming said “dude you’re ballsy for giving anyone your camera” and his response shows so genuine it’s almost poetic. “He just wants to film” It shows a lot about how we view people. I was wondering about the wealth gap and it seemed like they were in another world from the majority of the Afghan people. Would you say this is a true reflection of the country? (please forgive my rudeness, it's just in today's world it's hard to know what's honest and what's a pair of international rose coloured glasses.)
@@NeonCicada Hello! and no problem, I don't think it's rude and I'm glad you are curious about it. What specifically about the wealth gap are you thinking about? Also, I agree, it definitely seems that they are in another country, but keep in mind, this entire video was filmed strictly in the city of Herat (it's one of the more peaceful cities in comparison to other regions) (also, if they were to go outside of the area, the chances of running into the Taliban or seeing military officials would rise - additionally with ISIS in the region, conditions have become more dangerous for those living in the capital of Kabul). Nonetheless, coming from someone who visited Afghanistan a few times, life is pretty much normal, children playing outside, visiting mosques, going to local Bazar. But seeing large military tanks or military helicopters brings the reality of the on-going war (even seeing or hearing bomb blasts - relatives of mine were killed and affected from this). Though this is a harsh reality, a lot of Afghans try to go about their lives as there is not much they can do from their part. With that being said, i do think this video is a true reflection of Afghan society without the war. I remember times when we barely could afford food but if we had guest over, we would go beyond to show our appreciation to them - I hope this answers your question :)
You must not be in Afghanistan if you're able to use youtube and post a picture showing your hair and face. I didn't see a single woman in the entire video. Islam really is a twisted religion.
@@justinberber9848 Hi there, I do not live in Afghanistan. Due to the current conditions, women are restricted in comparison to men. Though, to your comment, that has absolutely nothing to do with Islam, it is because of the strict rules imposed on women due to terrorist organizations who claim their actions upon religion when in reality, it's very false. If you actually look into Islam, you would see that women have many rights and Islam is a peaceful religion. I would want to challenge you in that comment. Would you say that Christianity is a twisted religion? I mean, a lot of far-right groups use it as a justification for their actions if you look historically and currently at terrorist groups in the United States (for example). Nonetheless, while I do respect that you have an opinion and you're definitely entitled to that, I hope you take in my words for consideration (i respect people of all religions and don't think any of them are "evil") and you look at different sources before coming to that conclusion. If this is something you would want to talk about, I'm happy to do so. Have a nice day!
As an Afghan, born in 2001 their rulership was no more than a story for me. Something so long ago in the past. I came to Germany on October 2021 and in this video for a few seconds there was a banner on the street from the school which I graduated from. I could save over $8,000 in a year working at mcdonald's and still live off of the rest I would've made in ONE ☝️ Year. He can finally build that school and help all those children in need have an opportunity at bettering their lives, the lives of the people around them, and the future of Afghanistan 🇦🇫. Praise their souls. Great Work YES Theory. Really emotional video. P.S. : I find it absolutely INSANE Noor actually went through all that, and still is determined to better his country instead of abandoning all hope like soundly a lot of people after understanding terrorist organizations occupy 60% - 70% of all lands in the Country. (They said there are about 6-7 counties in which they'd actually be able to venture off in, without threat of terrorism or kidnapping.... absolutely disturbing. I had to cry hard watching this one. An overwhelming mixture of joy but also sadness. So many heartwarming interactions - even though, as you said, you don't even understand each other's languages you can communicate on this deep, primal level where you just know were both humans living together on this sometimes harsh planet, experiencing the same on a basic human level even though your experiences differ wildly. It reminded me of what we truly are and that were in this together. But knowing the situation in Afghanistan it's also sad. Sad that not everyone can live peacefully because some few people ignore our indifferences. One thing I will do for sure is travel the whole world, backpacking, hitchhiking after finishing my studies. Planning a rough route isn't easy as some countries are too risky as traveller. So many countries, cultures and experiences I will perhaps never see and have to avoid in the face of danger. Props to you Thomas for taking this risk but also opportunity and showing us this beautiful country.

21 years of growing up in Afghanistan, I have seen it all! Talk about Talibans, Suicide bombers, militia attacks, everything. But instead of trying to build resentment for the country I actually chose to watch it from a different angle. I knew in order to change the world I have to change myself, that change starts within. So I tried that! Started by reading books, watching beneficial videos and stuff. Suddenly came across a video of you guys Ramadan fasting. Saw that one and another one, one after that and after that. Maybe binge watched for about 4 hours! 4 years forward, I'm pretty sure I've seen about 90% of your channels videos. I love how wearing their traditional outfit indicates respect. In America they would probably label it as cultural appropriation instead of cultural appreciation.
The right wants migrants to do the same and show respect, the left claims it is appropriation. Same people who operate this channel, hense the contradiction that I find ridiculous
That's what I was thinking too initially, I was like "Wait, isn't it a little disrespectful?" but after they explained it, I was like "ohhhh okay." Thats amazing that it's considered an act of respect.
What's this "cultural appropriation"? Seems like more crap to be mad and fight about for no reason. As long as you show respect to the culture, you should be able to experience it and share these things.

People think this comment was me insulting Afghanistan and assume that I’m American so they keep saying people get kidnapped there. Yes. People get kidnapped everywhere. But you wouldn’t usually hear someone saying “we don’t have too much taliban” or “just some kidnappings.” This wasn’t my OG comment btw. I was in Helmand Province. The worst province in Afghanistan. It was sad at the state of the area. There were plenty of really good people just trying to get by with what little they had, just to constantly be stuck in the middle of conflicts. They weren't loyal to either side or even the country. They were just trying to survive. Just taking a walk to the Bazar, was a risk because the IED threat was so high there. Pressure plates don't discriminate with race, gender or age. It was also one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.
I’m sorry for the loses you’ve had to endure. I am very touched & so glad to see the guide is doing something truly amazing that will have a great impact on the younger generations. Not only to give them a safe haven, full bellies, & love. But to strive to give these kids an education & give them a chance in this world to really make a difference. So they can grow up with the tools to make their home a better place. To remedy the past & help make a better future. It all starts in childhood. A foundation they can stand on. So good on Moor for doing his part to make sure the kids left behind know love.
Watching this today...I felt sad for this people, their smiles are priceless and just thinking about those kids right where they are now breaks my heart 😢
@CNN is Fake News and you’ve probably never been to a Muslim country so don’t judge. I’ve been treated better and with more respect in Muslim countries than in the United States for example. So please be quiet if you don’t actually know anything.
@CNN is Fake News I'm right wing and I do support the preservation of western culture, but you are an ignorant idiot. To say an entire country and their culture is barbaric. There's so many great thing about the Afghan people and their cultures. To associate the actions of groups with an entire people is just small minded. I've met people from Afganistan, very kind people. I honestly thing if you learned more and met these people you opinion would change.

@KR45Y76 There's this video game called "Sky: Children of Light" there are a lot of "shared moments of humanity" because players aren't able to speak to each other using chat and can only use emotes. Once a girl (who I later found out was from Saudi Arabia) was playing the piano in-game. I liked the song she was playing and sat down next to her, and pulled out my own piano. She started playing the song again and I tried copying her. When she realized I was trying to play the song, she slowed down and played it a few notes at a time, and only moved on when I got it correct. When I finally got the song correct she was super excited and was running around. We didn't speak each other's language nor did I know anything about her but we spent half an hour together. Sky has a lot of moments like that which is why I love the game, if you're ever looking for "shared moments of humanity" you should try it out.

Part of me feels like that was a big underlying motivator for different cultures to try and control and invade them over time. This video made me feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, and I can begin to really try to appreciate what the country of Afghanistan, the culture, and the people really have to offer. Thank you for this.
Same brother, 2 tours in RC East. I always knew it was a more beautiful country than just what I experienced as a troop
I won’t pretend I know what you’re going through because I never will. Just here to say keep going! I’m glad that people can still see the beautiful culture Afghanistan has to offer, and good luck on your life’s journey !
I know that I can't put myself in your shoes, even a little really, but I am glad that humanity has brought you as individuals closer to a culture that was a backdrop for one of the harshest times of your lives. I never comment on UA-cam videos but after watching this, i feel compelled to do so. As a fellow Afghan, I am in tears. For my entire life, I've watched Afghanistan being portrayed as a war-torn country, though there's never mention of our culture and the generosity of our people. I've always loved Seek Discomfort but this elevated my love even more for the channel. Thank you for portraying another lens to the story of Afghanistan. I hope this inspires others to look into Afghanistan and look at our history (it's very interesting). I am also happy to see Noor in the video as well and because the proceeds will be going to Noor's school, I will be purchasing merchandise. Thank you Thomas and Seek Discomfort team! This definitely made my day :)
I love reading this comment!
This touched my fucking soul. I love the intention of giving Noor some proceeds of the company they gave him. It really shows how much people of privilege take for granted.

I can feel the positivity and optimism, which has helped me tremendously on my POV about the world. But I always felt left out because of how you guys were in America and I was all the way in Afghanistan! But now, watching this, I feel so good that you guys have taken the risk of all kinds and shown the world what Afghanistan really is about. And I also kinda feel leftout that you guys didn't have a meet and greet! Although bucket list is a cliche word but that would've been one of the top things to meet you guys.
Still tho, the positive side is wayyy lot more than me not meeting you guys.

@@ZACKG3456 It's thier religion, the culture is seperate and beautiful. The architecture is part of the culture. Just like american culture isn't centered around Christ.
yes so beautiful
This really did change my perspective on Afghanistan!

"A shared moment of humanity." Yes, that is what it is all about.
that resonated and stood out for me too :)
I wonder how the people in this video are doing right now? I hope they are still alive and safe.
I'm curious as well. I hope he started his shelter/ school
You guys are single handedly changing people’s perspectives on the world and guiding them in a positive direction. Thank you for this

@@artist4746 they were saying that yes theory is guiding people who don't understand how other ppl live into a more inclusive bubble that shows how beautiful the world is

Thanks for your service. That is unfortunately true. I am an Afghan living in Colorado. Most of the people that I meet here who traveled to Afghanistan with the military have horrible experiences. There so many goods in my country. I hope someday you can travel and experience the peace and love in my country.
The soldiers deployed in Afghanistan seen the agliest face of Afghanistan.
