A very interesting approach to comp takes. I would have never thought of using the gate function for that but instead would have worked with start end endpoints of the different samples. But your method seems to be quicker. THX, Jeff!

Awesome, I'll definitely try this out! Your tips are pure gold for vocalists working with Maschine!! I bought the MK3 a while ago, because of one of your videos (where you showed how to record with monitoring FX.) Now with the new clips feature I'm even more committed to learning what I can do with it. So fun! Thank you!

This is a great idea. I've been recording a lot of vocals, so this will be super handy! Just one suggestion, you can record directly to audio device and so separate sounds (since you had it set to sampler). Select loop mode, then instead of take choose sound.

Nice video, Jef. One thing that I have noticed is that having the second group to house Guitar Rig may not be needed any more. I just put GR6 on the group and can hear the effects while recording and the recorded audio is dry. So, I think I am getting the same results with a little less setup. This is such a great tutorial! Thank you! I’m still having difficulty with recording a vocalist track. And with that I mean the recording process instead of the comping. In a ‘normal’ DAW you can punch in and out and start and stop recording at any moment in the timeline. But when I got a song length clip for the vocal track I can’t let the singer quickly re-sing (is that english?) parts like overdubbing a bridge or repairing a high note and start just a measure before that. Are there ways in Maschine to record like that? Now I just let the vocalist sing the whole song a few times as a workaround and comp the good bits out. It would be awesome if you could invite a vocalist or gitarist in your studio and record a whole track with hem/her to see the process. And thanks again, you have a talent for explaining!

How did you get all of your takes? Did you have to record the first, stop, hit start on sample and start again over and over? I can’t tell, but it would be amazing if there was a mode where you could play take after take (until you hit stop) and have each take automatically be assigned to the next sound slot.

I do have one small point though: Instead of using the internal sampler to record your comped take, you can use the pattern audio export button all the way to the right of the software (the squiggly wave next to the pattern length) to export the audio of your pattern/clip. This could save you some time :)
