This is what AC does better than anything else. Any car, any road, just hop in and zone out. It's something I've been enjoying more than racing these days.
AC doesn't do it for me. It works and is most realistic when pushing the car to the limits, everything else seems worse. Already the first moment in the car when you have to launch from a standstill is disappointing. One of the worst simulations of the clutch biting in any modern sim, and then there are ridiculous torque curves in some cars. I never drove a Giulia QV, but I'm quite sure it doesn't need 3/4 throttle to maintain speed in 3rd gear at 2.5k rpm. BeamNG does these aspects far better.
having a vr makes the whole experience about 100 times better, honestly having music on in the background when cruising on a night time free roam map is unbelievable.
This is the biggest thing that has kept me glued to AC for so long, having the possibility of choosing any car and any track I want and just having a nice cruise for an hour is something that I cannot recreate in any other sim I own. AC might not have the best ai, but it's still the best "casual" simulator out there.
I have to say as a sim racer all the way back to GPL, AC is the closest we have in modern sims to that. GPL still has the edge of the more obscure historic tracks, but my particular itch is older cars on older tracks (or older looking tracks like Bannochbrae) and AC is the closest I've got to scratching that itch outside GPL. And of course AC offers me WAY WAY WAY more historic cars.
The AI might not be perfect, but I have seen far worse. Though I will say with mods, they do get a bet derpy in some corners (complete stops in heavy traffic).
An acceptable engine that's also friendly for modding is a rarity in itself. Now make it a small genre with an overall small community and on top of that also considering there's an active modding scene that produces quality content and not just reskins/reshades etc. pretty much makes AC an unicorn in gaming. Every car or racing enthusiast, gamer or not, should be told this is a must buy.

Then look - I can get into the Napier Railton, the actual Napier Railton, that will forever hold the lap record at that circuit, and see for myself what it's like to drive. I can hire out Matt Neal's Nissan Primera from the 1999 BTCC season, red livery and all, and throw it around Thruxton, my local track and one that's so dear to my heart. The Thruxton. Hi GPLaps. The name you were looking for, when referencing the Tokyo track is "Shutoko Revival Project". Very happy that you publicly acknowledged what is, without question, the *GREATEST* map in racing sim history. The only thing left to say is, well.....DO A VIDEO ON THE SHUTOKO REVIVAL PROJECT for crying out loud! :p It'd be real nice to hear your input on that map and what your thoughts are on driving through the city of Tokyo. @@karl343 No, it's definitely way better on a controller. I know some people use a Wheel but it's not designed for one and you'll have to spend quite a while getting it to an acceptable state.
Exactly that chillout "cruise feeling" of almost any road car makes this game unique and unmatched. At the end of a long day at work I just fire up a red Ferrari 250 and I hit the road and I'm good.In a sunset or in a rain whatever pleases me.
I just picked up AC recently on a nice sale; I only have a gamepad, so I was worried the game would be nearly unplayable (many people were saying that much about controllers) but I've been pleasantly surprised that not only is it playable, but quite stable and enjoyable even
I started just driving instead of racing or hotlapping in pc2 with the azure coast road and California highway, I loved taking some slow old road car like the BMW 2002 and drive it around as if it were my car and I was really there. So driving more relaxed and laid back, being more cautious and gentle. I thought that side of thing was super cool. The massive mod maps for AC are awesome for this.
I like to put on my VR headset, find a decently slow car on any sim and just cruise long circuits. After a long day and long smoke it’s a nice end to the day
I’ve been doing this for years with Gran Turismo, Forza, and now AC. I do Motor Trend/Top Gear type drives in some of the greatest cars at some of the best locations in the world. (In the world to be read in Jeremy Clarkson’s voice). It’s very calming.
I actually live only a few kilometres from there. The area is called Taunus, its located in Hesse state and has lots of hills and forrests. I got to say the map looks very accurate. I didn't even know this race existed before I saw this video. Ty for that i guess.
All Porsche 912's had the engine from the 356. When the 911 was released, it was significantly more expensive than the outgoing 356, so the 912 was introduced to plug the gap. It was just a 911 bodyshell with the 356 engine in it. When parked, the badging was the only way to tell whether it was a 911 or a cheaper 912.
I've actually done this a lot on the Japanese touge maps in assetto. VR really helps the feel of going for a drive. Shutoko revival project is also very good for doing highway cruising.
This is something I liked about Test Drive Unlimited. You got 2 islands, Ibiza and Hawaii, and can drive all around them. The Crew offers a similar experience but for driving around the USA.
There is a market for a sim driving game; with traffic, massive free roam and easy multiplayer setup. Something about just cruising in a vibrant, alive world just hits a spot. I've never tried Horizon but I imagine something like that but with sim level mechanics would really do well. For now, AC with maps like LAC and traffic mods is all we really have. Sometimes I'll load up GTA V with a wheel support mod and handling mod and that can be fun too - but it doesn't match AC's driving feel / FFB.
My favorite feature of AC is the track day feature. I like driving around a circuit, but it gets a little dull when it's just me, so I like having some cars strolling too. I put some slower ones for easy overtakes and some faster ones so I can challenge myself a bit and try to keep up with them, but without the pressure of actually being in a race.
Just recently delved back into AC after a long hiatus and I've found hotlapping has improved my well-being this past week, just pick a car and pick a track then see what I can knock out. Also, the occasional jaunt around the 'Ring is always a nice cruise.
Quite often I'll pop on an album and listen to it while free roaming in AC. A lovely time to be sure. Though if I'm being honest I've spent most of my time on the Feldbergring racing GT3s, but being able to cruise around in a Porsche 912 and race thirty ultra-modern GT cars on the same circuit is surely the mark of an all time great.
Turn on iTunes, pop on 1980s Japanese pop music, fire up SRP's Shutoko track mod and drive around in a Singer 911 or even an Enzo going wherever my mind takes me is my kind of therapy.
This is why AC reigns supreme. It is not a racing simulator it is a driving simulator. It means that its market expands to include all sorts of people as long as they love driving and cars. Just cruising or flashing through busy traffic whatever takes your fancy. I think I have driven all the big scenic layouts in AC. I just wish there were more driving simulators where I could drive even more of the world's scenic roads. Not games, not racing just taking in some new scenery and chilling out in my Porsche, Alfa etc. etc. Maybe one day before I die we will have a MSFS2020 for cars!
I love this track! I've raced the Estonias here which are momentum low powered, open air cars. just driving wheel to wheel on these long straights taking in the scenery while trying not to over rev your engine was one of my best sim memories
Ive done this with other racing games, just taken a car around a scenic area or track, and just drove, let my mind kind of drift as I went on autopilot, taking in the scenes and admiring the tracks and surrounding area one doesnt notice when racing. Assetto is next on my list
I have my sim rig for 3 years now, and most of the time I race at iRacing and AC, but it's like some kind of cycle: I take iRacing seriously and do a complete season or two, then I get tired of competing and take AC to just drive around and pretend I own all these modern and classic cars. It's what I love about Assetto Corsa, that takes you wherever you want, and I looove it.
Nr2003 Langley pst is fun because they accurately detailed the outside of the track with the buildings and even a few trailers. I lived in one of those in real life back in the late 90s and it's so surreal to be able to revisit in the best stock car oval sim ever with fairly accurate for a small mod tean
One of my favorite Tracks. I live near the former Race Track. I've hit these roads in a real car. Today its not possible to drive races there anymore. The small villages are much bigger now but the roads stayed pretty much the same
This game is amazing, and the community even more! Tons of mods, you can ride any car in any track! Its like you said, sometimes i just drive, relax, forget about my problems, simply escaping from this reality, and VR makes it even better. I have some videos that you can check if you are willing to invest in a wheel to play this game, do it! AC is wonderful.
Been playin ac since it first came out, I hardly ever do actual racing. I only drive free roam type of maps, and on the Tf nordschleife Ac will still have a long life.
Great video, thanks. I think this is exactly what AC is built for. Used it a lot myself for free rides right since 2014. What better sim engine than AC for a free ride of e.g. the Ferrari Testarossa TR512 mod in a decent rig and at a free ride track mod? But ofcourse, decent competition do well, both offline and serious online lobbies.
Yeah, that's what you need to unwind after a fierce session of hot-lapping - a cruise along the Feldbergring. And driving what seems like the 1960's equivalent of a Boxster seems to be the right choice of motor.
Its kind of what I find myself more often doing. Load up a Porsche 944 turbo pick a track and just have some fun. Thinks to your videos I have been using some old GP tracks like BremGarten. Its so fun blasting through a track you shouldnt be going that fast on.
Absolutely right! Belive it or not, but if I don't SIM-race before getting to bed, since i suffer of imsomnia, I can't properly relax myself and fall asleep properly.

It's a map that more and more people are discovering and as someone who knows the devs behind SRP, I'm certainly glad to see they're finally getting the recognition they deserve.
The only thing left to say is, well.....DO A VIDEO ON THE SHUTOKO REVIVAL PROJECT for crying out loud! :p It'd be real nice to hear your input on that map and what your thoughts are on driving through the city of Tokyo.
Anyway keep up the great vids dude.
I'm a dedicated sim racer but do genuinely enjoy firing up Forza Horizon 4 just to dick about and have a drive.
Is FH4 good on a wheel?
@@karl343 No, it's definitely way better on a controller.
I know some people use a Wheel but it's not designed for one and you'll have to spend quite a while getting it to an acceptable state.
Exactly that chillout "cruise feeling" of almost any road car makes this game unique and unmatched.
At the end of a long day at work I just fire up a red Ferrari 250 and I hit the road and I'm good.In a sunset or in a rain whatever pleases me.
I just picked up AC recently on a nice sale; I only have a gamepad, so I was worried the game would be nearly unplayable (many people were saying that much about controllers) but I've been pleasantly surprised that not only is it playable, but quite stable and enjoyable even
Any track from Fat Alfie is just sublime! Batternbergring is also one of the best tracks around.
After a long day and long smoke it’s a nice end to the day
Funny that, I also relax in “Spa Fat Alfie”.
For me drifting in AC with my chill playlist is one of the relaxing things ever!
Timeless content. Thanks for the content. I'm searching for some of these AC tracks and cars now.
Best thing to wake up to is a new GPLaps video! Lets gooooo
Love that your channel is growing. 25k subs soon 🍻
I like to do this in Rally games as well.....just take a nice ride in the country and chill with some good tunes on the stereo.
That's my plan for this evening as it's throwing it down - AC, free drive layout and a bunch of different cars for a cruise and a drive.
Trips like these will be the reason AC will never die. Lovely
I take a family trip in Feldberg every year. Really recognise the streets around the church. Now just need that 912. … VR will do just fine 👍
3:07 That moment of silent after he said that’s actually a 912
The off-brand 911
My favorite feature of AC is the track day feature. I like driving around a circuit, but it gets a little dull when it's just me, so I like having some cars strolling too. I put some slower ones for easy overtakes and some faster ones so I can challenge myself a bit and try to keep up with them, but without the pressure of actually being in a race.
Just recently delved back into AC after a long hiatus and I've found hotlapping has improved my well-being this past week, just pick a car and pick a track then see what I can knock out. Also, the occasional jaunt around the 'Ring is always a nice cruise.
I lived there a year ago and the track is mostly still there but it's a normal road now. But u can still kinda feel the racetrack.
Bro I literally slept at my sofa while listening to this video it's so relaxing 😀
I usually use one of my cars for that kind of Relaxiation. The Sim is for crashing hard full of anger into others, something I don't dare to do RL.
Hooking up the VR and casual driving is awesome to take some heat off
Decided to pick this game up after driving for hours in Forza 4. Thanks for the great video. Looking forward to some coffee and a good cruise.
Nr2003 Langley pst is fun because they accurately detailed the outside of the track with the buildings and even a few trailers.
I lived in one of those in real life back in the late 90s and it's so surreal to be able to revisit in the best stock car oval sim ever with fairly accurate for a small mod tean
Driving + listening to podcast is my therapy
The car sounds a lot like the old 718 in AC. That twin choke carburetor sound.
And you pronounce "Oberreifenberg" really well. :) And actually, all roads are public roads today.
I lived there for a while and I can still kinda feel the racetrack
A Huge Open World Multiplayer with the Drivingphysics from AC is my Dream.
Yep. Port a TDU Hawaii map to AC and I'm set for life.
Would love that, tho the physics in ACC Are better. I love ACC but i hate the terrible tyre model
Been playin ac since it first came out, I hardly ever do actual racing.
I only drive free roam type of maps, and on the Tf nordschleife
Ac will still have a long life.
Beautiful video. A real journey.
Yeah, that's what you need to unwind after a fierce session of hot-lapping - a cruise along the Feldbergring. And driving what seems like the 1960's equivalent of a Boxster seems to be the right choice of motor.
Yeah. I do so many times like this. Sometimes i make trackday. And but Ai very easy and agressive to zero. Super relaxin just cruising around
I love driving the 1920's cars around the Feldbergring
Its kind of what I find myself more often doing. Load up a Porsche 944 turbo pick a track and just have some fun. Thinks to your videos I have been using some old GP tracks like BremGarten. Its so fun blasting through a track you shouldnt be going that fast on.
there is no way these sounds for this car are actually being made by a game. they are too perfect
It is how I enjoyed sim racing since ever.
You’re the Bob Ross of sims. You found your niche.
a sim/mod with great engine sound goes a long way
I thought "that sounds like a Porsche 912" and my hunch was right. You can't mistake the sound of that 4 cylinder motor
Gran Turismo helped me alot emotionally as a teen
Absolutely right! Belive it or not, but if I don't SIM-race before getting to bed, since i suffer of imsomnia, I can't properly relax myself and fall asleep properly.
when you see the thumbnail and are like 'ah... Feldbergring'
GPLaps = "Simracing is good for relaxing"
Also GPLaps = [sounds like he's edging on every single video]
