I am a Belgian..so my Friends have been giving me a lot of banter the last winters during cyclocross season for supporting a Dutchman.
But he has shown this spring..he is the best in the world.

But he took a risk, refused to settle for second, and actually managed to outsprint Alaphilippe in the end. Sure he didn't win, but he made the race so much more exciting by his willingness to sacrifice some positions to have a chance to fight for 1st. I hope more guys will refuse to work and force Alaphillipe and other top guys to either pull or risk being overtaken, rather than pulling all the way, getting smoked in the sprint, and settling for positions.

What a race this was! However, I do wonder: is this a badly edited highlights or has racing changed completely over the last 4 years? I was blown away 4 years ago when this happened. Yet watching the highlights it looks less alien to me than it did 4 years ago. Now you'd almost expect these kind of finishes.

One thing seems for sure though: Alaphilippe was really really really tired to only manage 4th, sprinter that he is. He was right to worry about Fuglsang, who did beat him to the line.

Yes, he was tired and was beaten. But , he also beat himself by letting so many catch up.

Alaphilippe woulda won on one leg had he kept riding the last 4k

Fuglsang beat him at the line, only after Alaphillipe closed down Kviatkowski with 500 meters to go, opened the sprint too early and with additional tailwind help from Simon Clarke.
If there were 10 riders sprinting, Fuglsang would be lucky to get 9th. Alaphillipe should have won this.
