    I've been reading the comments from some of the guys with disabilities and my hats off to yall...perseverance can achieve everything so keep up the work!! I've been playing the guitar for over 30 years (classic rock, texas blues, etc.) and I feel like an ass now for complaing about a little carpal tunnel, I know I can never fully appreciate the hard work yall put into what I've taken for granite all my life...Thanks again.

      I had severe carpal tunnel issues and that has prevented me from the guitar. now, I am learning the lap steel. But I must share with you this... the carpal tunnel surgery was done long ago and the nerve problem returned. However, the fix is to get a cortisone shot. it repairs it for 6 or 8 months. cortisone stays local to the hand. Ive been doing this for 15 years now with no side effects. two or three days after the shot Im good to go. for me, its a very positive thing. otherwise I would not take up the lap steel. Best of success to you.

      Been playing guitar for over 50 years. Two years ago I completely severed three ligaments in my left shoulder leaving me stuck to play anyhow comfortably and without looking like a retard. It took some time to discover, hey... what about a lap steel? I love it and my only real investment was the Gretsch I purchased to see if I liked it. Now I will trade a few guitars in for a pedal steel. Life must go on for music lovers.

      @@waynekasbey4710 That sounds painful, sorry to hear that. I love playing guitar, 40+ years now and I would love to try the pedal steel, such a distinctive, melodic instrument…Good Luck with your ventures!

    Absolutely bloody excellent.
    I think the miniature bottle is perfect, easy to hold, fun to empty, and experimental if filled with ball bearings, etc.
    I can imagine that having an effect on the sound.
    First class playing and welcome to the astonishing sound of the lap steel guitar.
    Isn't it bloody amazing ?

    Hey all :) Have played lead and rhythm guitar since 1964 and use to be a Johnny Be Good at it until a car wreck in 2015 and had a neck injury. A year later the little & ring finger on my left hand went numb :( Just picked up a Rouge Lap Guitar and giving it a try and is why I'm here... Being as it's hard to hold anything like a slide bar or bottle, I had a friend make me slide bar that I can hold on to. He took a round slide bar and mig welded a piece of spoon handle in just about the middle and I wear it like a ring on my index finger to play.. When there's a will there's a way! If my heart is knocking then I'm still rock'n! Thanks to all for posting some great stuff to learn :)

      Makes me feel better even when I'm feeling down! I hadn't played in some time but after playing in bands for over 50 years I had to get off the pity pot and do something! Changed my stage name to Johnny Bear 3Fingers :) BTW - the thumbnail pic is my 1961 Gibson ES-335 I got in 1964 at 12 years old.. He's still doing just fine! I'm quadriplegic & cannot use my hands but I have some arm movement so with my arm braces & adaptive equipment that I've designed I hope I'll be able to jam out some, I'm going to give it my best try! • @krisjato
      @krisjato 10 років тому +7

      Not very good honestly! I'm unable to keep the slide parallel to the frets after I get about halfway down the neck. Also, I'm unable to mute the strings. It's very hard! I can play a few bar chords, I posted a video of my dad and I but no blues yet. :-( I bought a digital piano, I could make more music with that! I sold the piano, I'm saving to buy a nicer one. I have been quadriplegic for 14 1/2 years and I know what you mean, I've amazed myself with my adaptations! Thanks for the comment!

    • @jackd.ripper7613
      @jackd.ripper7613 10 років тому +2

      Too bad about the lap steel. Yes, it is very hard, even for someone who HAS the use of their limbs! Well, you don't have to play past the seventh fret if you want to play in all keys. The fifth fret will give you most keys. If you can hang with just G-B-D-G-B-D (thick to thin) ignore some of the more esoteric tunings, You might try gluing a piece of leather or something to the back of the slide to mute the strings. Don't really know, I never taught slide to a quad before!
      Hey, man. Stay healthy. You sound like a bluesman to ME!

    Well mate - gotta tell ya I'm learning a lot from all these posts.. I like the licks you put down the most because it's more my style , nice and dirty :) Never got into slide but I'm loving it now! Have a ways to go before I find my groove and put my brand on it but it won't take long... I was just fading away by letting my hand stop me from playing. Thank God he gave me the talent and a new drive to want it back! I'm even feeling frisky again and that finally got the wife to leave after all these years LOL
    Speaking of which, I went to a neighbors today to have him sharpen my axe and his sheep told on him.... When we walked by the sheep pin a lot of them started saying d-a-a-a-addy! He kicked the pin and said "shut up! You're gonna get me in trouble! :) Thanks again for posting even if it was 5 years ago. This shit will never get old brother :)

      Back at ya :) I love "Govt Mule" and the style they play.. Just became a fan of the guy on here (to the right of this post) Nelly - Kicking Screaming Slide Guitar...... That dude has it going on! When I grow up I wanna be just like him... Every post on here helps me figure out how to play this thing and like you, with 50+ years of playing it's easier than I thought it would be... Shoot, I might even go find a little band to sit in with from time to time :) I have a friend with a bunch of old farts still playing and I'm sure they'll let me jam on a tune or 2....... :) I do miss the glory days when I played, got paid & laid.... Later

    Good video, thanks for the idea. I have a lap tuned to c6, I guess I should re-tune it for rock once in a while. For those viewers extolling the great tone from a small whisky bottle, have fun, but if you want more sustain and tone nothing beats solid steel or brass. Try it. Its why they call them Lap Steels. :)

    You may not have much experience playing one, but you CAN play the shyt out of it! I've played guitar for 46 years (and boy, are my fingers tired...) and just recently bought a PowerSlide because of left hand problems, hoping to extend my non-existent musical career. I want to play like this. Thanks for the inspiration.
