.....great video Dave, your intros make me smile......excellent tips and good nutrient advice......and thanks for the shout out.....Nutrients, and how they effect an orchids growth.... fascinates me. I can talk nutrients all day.....There is a lot of good research out there that gives facts about orchids and thier nutritional needs..Growers need to weed thru the outdated, misinformation that comes up with simple searches..
......Your beautiful collection is a great example of how well they grow, with "consistant" good water and nutrients......Not everyone can spray thier orchids like you can,..... but they can mimic your set up by using good draining media, using good water, and feeding all the time, with small amounts.......Your blooming orchids as a backdrop is incredible.......keep up the good work!

I setup my orchids in an orchid pot with an outer pot. The outer pot has no drainage, so it is easy for me to soak them when I water&fertilize them. Just leave them in liquid for 10 to 15 mins, then pull the inner pot out and drain. It is a life saver.

The big stores sell a good fertilizer (Orchid Pro) that is recommended by AOS, it’s made by Better Gro. I think Better Gro is owned by Palmers.
I believe that orchid roots are burnt by residual fertilizer salts, that’s why the orchids need flushing.
You have a nice fertilizing set up.

That was a very informative video Dave thank you. I use MSU fertilizer the past two years along with Cal-Mag, and a seaweed extract. I don't have a R/O unit. Instead, I buy gallons of distilled water at the grocery. I don't do weakly weekly anymore. However, I fertilize every other watering. I think I do see a difference as years ago I never fertilized, but now I do see better growth since using fertilizers.

Great video. I have very high ph here. So I change the started changing the ph and really helped my orchids and bonsai. Now it is between 6.0 and 6.5. Also added a filter to remove the chlorine and lower the TDS which is 390 out here. And I remember hearing about the "weakly weekly". Never got it.

Hey Dave, I personally think Mega Thrive is snake oil. Tried it and it made no difference in my plants! Jack's 2 part system made a total visual difference in my orchids in less than a week! That I can gurantee you will visually see a difference in your orchids! I have been contemplating silica. Me and Rick discussed this to some degree. Im lucky, we talk for hours about nutrients on the phone and I eat up and love every minute! Hes my orchid brother! I feed the Jack's 2 part soaks every week in summer and bi weekly in winter. I use dolomite lime in my pots as well. Together its a win win. I also use sea kelp. I enjoyed your video!

Hi Dave😅🙌HAAA! The intro! Yes, you are in tune with orchid fertilizer. The Vandas will be fine hanging on the pool cage. It's made to withstand storms. I did a new video of an orchid Collection in Japan. Her yard is tiny and filled to the brim with orchids, some heat stressed, some cold damaged, and some changes to how she grows. Fertilizer is still not properly known amongst the older generation, yet they have a lot of knowledge from vegetable cultivation, or basic know-how on elements of fertilizer. I think you'll like watching.

Whoa, so much to say about this one! for one thing, looks like you don't like weakly weekly, but you are instead working with Even weaker daily, which is just the same concept on steroids! Clearly, one same fertilizer can be used at different dosages for different periodicities. So, "As It Says In the Label" is not law. The product makers will mostly give you a schedule that doesn't sound like a heck of a lot of work, so they give you the monthly or 1/2 month schedule. But you can and should do more frequent/less strong as much as is possible. Your "super secret" automation system is proof. So, please, there's nothing wrong with Weakly weekly! It is better than Strongly monthly, and not as awesome as Even weaker daily!

    • @DavesOrchidOasis

I agree. I think the best way is weakly daily. :)

@@DavesOrchidOasis When I had only three orchid plants in an apartment in the big city I tried an interesting experiment: I watered my orchid pots by dipping them into my 30 gallon fish tank. That is called Aquaponics, I later learned. I never used any fertilizer, other than the low concentrations found in the tank water from the fish waste products. The biological filtration system and fish health were good measure to guarantee the concentrations were low. It worked like a miracle! But now I have more than 300 plants and seedlings which means I can't get the same results from a 30 gallon tank, I would need something much bigger, maybe a full 1000 L tank with some tilapia growing in it! And soaking all the pots in the same tank is also dangerous, it could spread disease quite quickly. So, I'm back to a more normal, spray on organic/chemical (50/50) fertilization method.
