A decade later, and you're quite right. I just played back through Warcraft 2's Orc campaign and I plan to play through both the Human campaign then the expansion campaigns as well, and while the gameplay is definitely dated even compared to Warcraft 3 (which came out a few years later) the atmosphere is definitely unmatched. I would say that this game managed to have a very great atmosphere for its time and set the stage perfectly for Starcraft (which was a masterpiece) then Warcraft 3 (a masterpiece of another kind).
+Eljah Baley Or maybe they just took the advantage to save money and give people some nice nostalgia moments? It was 15 years ago since I heard that song until yesterday and I remembered much of my childhood. I don't like every decision Blizzard has made. But that one is a good one.
Nah bliz just reuses alot of old content because they can. Just go look at the icons from WC3 and then look at the icons for abilities in WoW. They may look familiar. Still an awesome soundtrack though :)
ArcaneAzmadi Easy to apply them to hearthstone simply because they're midi tracks, they take up kilobytes of space. Makes it much easier to apply to hearthstone since its a small game played on tablets and phones.
The harmony of the Warcraft 2 themes always struck me with the unconventional key changes scattered throughout the pieces, shaping the mood akin to a good book. This one is particularly incredible, and has always given me a precise and lively impression of a fierce winter in the middle of nowhere, of a tiny medieval seaside town that has been cut off from the supplies for months to come, and of the ice-locked ships in the harbour with their rolled worn sails covered in frost and snow that already turned into background fixtures. Nevertheless, the commander's order has reached here, and the lonely horn now calls the few local troops to set off for a long and fateful journey, with the church bells mourning them in advance.
Agh, listening to this gives me goose bumps! This music was mind-blowingly epic when I was 11, and it has lost none of its potency over 13 years. Thank you, sl2pl.
I'm a Hearthstone pleb and I was currius to find what this unique song was on the loading screen. Then when I came here I found so many old comments in here talking about WoW and I love it. Even through all of these years the WoW community strikes me to be one of the most diverse and timeless in my opinion. I don't plan on playing WoW but if I were to I know it would be a good experience.
I lost my Wc2 disc half a year ago. Still looking for the damn thing to play it. I have this thing where I play through the campaigns at least once or twice a year. I love Wc2, the music always gets me right into it. And them mission briefings, man. Serious business. Always loved the way the orcs talked and how they made the humans seem like puny ants every time they mentioned them lol
If you have your CD key you can enter it in your battle.net account and it will allow you to download the game. I haven't confirmed this for Warcraft 2, but it works for Starcraft, Diablo 2, and so on, so I can't imagine it not working for Warcraft 2.
You can actually download a Warcraft 2 server online. I believe people still actually play online with that server, but mostly just very very experienced players. It is 100% free as well. I am not sure if it has the campaign on it or not, but I assume it does.
Music music makes the game. This music sets the mood for the hard work your peasant is about to do. Its medieval, warlike, but also magically mysterious
I love how even though both campaigns had basically the same exact missions, each one felt like a totally different experience. That shows how great the music, art and story were in this game.
I like how Warcraft 2 turned into a series of alliances, with all of the Human nations and Orc clans, and all of the other races who joined in each side.
@aaaaaa001001 I loved doing that too. The ships were some of the best: "Stop rocking the boat", "you're making me sea sick." "*throws up*" Clicking the critters until they exploded was pretty funny too.
awesome one friend! i too find this game the best in the series by blizzard. till starcraft, this was all i played. remember the sound that played when you clicked on a farm?!! great to know that you are a true WC and blizzard fan!
@freescv Great words! =) Another thing was that humans and their leaders became too overconfident, cocky and lived in a false fantasy of security believing that after defeating the Horde nothing would ever again threaten them...except for those orcs who remained free. And when they refused to hear and see the warnings what was about to come, it was then too late to save Lordaeron from destruction...kinda sad really how once so mighty kindom fell so easily.
Brings back memories of good ol' times when every PC game was something new, fanboy wars were non-existent, and people were actually able to enjoy Warcraft and C&C at the same time. Now both franchises are ruined beyond any hope. Oh well, at least we still have this music.
Exactly. The thing is, the addition of powerful hero units made the game much more like an rpg than a standard rts. You don't need large numbers of units and extensive strategies to win, you just need to have a powerful hero and mass a number of the same units. Thats why people divide roles in multiplayer games. Truth be told, WC2 is my fav. of all the series, for the fact that it was a more serious, dark and violent game.
I remember clicking the Start Warcraft II-button rythmically after hearing the drumsounds in the window that you got when you started the game from Windows.
My god... Listening to this now, I can tell it was composed on an electric piano... I never knew that before... And it doesn't make it any less awesome.
this was a great game :D i remember when i first picked it up i couldn't wait to get home and play it. and when i got home i played it non stop for a few days straight and never did anything else! it is such an amazing game... but to this very day i never played warcraft or warcraft 2 tides of darkness those are litteraly the only blizz games ive never tried i even played lost vikings and all of there older games.
ahh the song does make us feel as though we are the captains of our own ships, and like true captains, we must go down with our ships with great nobility and pride! -original quote! hehe
@IceBaine Human 2 on Warcraft 2 Tides of Darkness. That was more of a call out to all of us who played the game for so long back in the day we still hear the track progression listening to them.
you know, world of warcraft music never moved me like this game's soundtrack did. I dont know how they did it, but the music from this game stuck with me longer than any other game ever.
Lyrics 0:09 Start "We Will stand For the great lord" And "Then We will Follow our constructions" "We are Humans But with no peace-e-e!" "And again we will stand for the Orcs" "We will never see them Coming back!" "I hope the orcs Will vanish away-y-y!" "We have Knights preparing for cannons We will Get a Victory Once again!" "I guess we will win for!" "i hope we never lose!!" Loop it over again alright?
"Sire?"
"For the king!"
Oh god, the memories!
Defending your honor
"Ready to serve"
Maybe war3 would have the best gameplay but no other warcraft game achieved such epic atmosphere as war2
A decade later, and you're quite right. Pet Battle theme in WoW and it plays as background music sometimes in Heroes of the Storm.
I love how Blizz calls back to their classics like this :)
+Rakanadyo
Same.
probably more because they are not willing to spend money paying new artists. that's the policy they had since the merging with Activision.
+Eljah Baley People like you just HAVE to spin things negatively, don't you?
+Eljah Baley
Or maybe they just took the advantage to save money and give people some nice nostalgia moments? It was 15 years ago since I heard that song until yesterday and I remembered much of my childhood. I don't like every decision Blizzard has made. But that one is a good one.
I suspect part of the reason is they've never had anything anywhere near this good ever composed again for any other WarCraft production.
"Stop rocking the boat!"
"You're making me seasick!"
*vomits*
I remember playing this game 8 years ago and hearing this on Hearthstone a few years back
It took me 8 years to find this song...
Yes mi'lord?
Righto!
***** "Something need doing?"
MineCrafters of the Square Table AEOROX "Yes, me Lord!"
"Me busy, leave me alone!"
For the Kyinngggg
+Mech610 We move
Defending your honor!!
+Vanlande I'm ready. I'M NOT READY!
Ready to serve, mi'lord!
FOR the keeeeeeeeeeeeernggggg
In your name
Warcraft II: the soundtrack so good that Blizzard are even today using it as the music for the matchmaker in Hearthstone. Never bettered by any RTS.
Not to mention being remastered in Heroes of the Storm. With 1000% more epic, somehow.
Cheaptastic Productions and the pet battle system
Nah bliz just reuses alot of old content because they can. Just go look at the icons from WC3 and then look at the icons for abilities in WoW. They may look familiar.
Still an awesome soundtrack though :)
Cheaptastic Productions *10%, the remastered ones for HotS are ruined versions of the originals.
ArcaneAzmadi Easy to apply them to hearthstone simply because they're midi tracks, they take up kilobytes of space. Makes it much easier to apply to hearthstone since its a small game played on tablets and phones.
Warcraft 2 the best of Wacraft Saga
Why do I feel like this perfectly encapsulates the human spirit?
The harmony of the Warcraft 2 themes always struck me with the unconventional key changes scattered throughout the pieces, shaping the mood akin to a good book. Step aside, junior.
Draw steel boys
Отойди-ка, Малыш. (Донатор)
There will never be a soundtrack as awesome as this one.
If they had a concert with an orchestra playing these songs, I'd totally be there!
1:47 the magnificence of this part chills my bones.
At once sier!! For the alliance...
defending your honor
+Dingo dyno Even elder races get tired of waiting
???
Few remember the alliance had "for the alliance". The horde fanbois stole because it was cool.
Agh, listening to this gives me goose bumps! This music was mind-blowingly epic when I was 11, and it has lost none of its potency over 13 years. Thank you, sl2pl.
CAPTAIN ON THE BRIDGE!
Skipper?
Aye captain
***** your making me sea sick
***** your the Captain

Glen Stafford - master of composition
Thanks for uploading these great nostalgic music tracks! :)
Warcraft 2 is the reason World of Warcraft got created.
Music makes the game. This really sets the mood for the hard work your peasant is about to do.
Exalted One? By your command! For the Alliance!
Move out!!!! :/ :/ :/
Even elder races get tired of waiting!
This game is older than I am
Such a great bit of music, and now its immortalized in hearthstone
Some people who might not've played wc2 might think this sound like shit. But this brings back so many memories, and it sounds so epic.
even though its been 10 years since i played Warcraft 2, this is still my favourite theme :D thank you for re-kindeling my love for it
Very good music, one of the most atmospheric and distinctive soundtracks I've ever heard.
I'm amazed to see i still remember ALL these tracks almost 15 years later. Was a beatiful game and atmosphere.
simply some of the best music ever recorded for a computer game. amazing, even after 14-15 years.
I lost my Wc2 disc half a year ago. Still looking for the damn thing to play it. I have this thing where I play through the campaigns at least once or twice a year. I love Wc2, the music always gets me right into it.

The beginning is awesome.
After listening to this, all I can say is that my sound card works perfectly.
For the king...defending your honor! Again a great childhood game, could bring me to tears....
I read all the sound bite comments with the voices of the characters. Damn I miss this game.
Aye, Captain? Aye, Captain!
Stop rocking the boat!
Music music makes the game. This music sets the mood for the hard work your peasant is about to do. Its medieval, warlike, but also magically mysterious
ah.... my childhood.. this is what started me to play rts. and later on command and conquer.. right now I'm currently a SC2 addict
Stop rocking the boat!....You're making me seasick!.... bllleeeuugghhhhh!!
Some people listen to metal, some to dubstep... I listen to Warcraft.
Thank's for making this :')
I love how even though both campaigns had basically the same exact missions, each one felt like a totally different experience. That shows how great the music, art and story were in this game.
dude.. this is trully epic. I love my old school times playing WC with such masterpice..
Playing Legion and STILL listening to this classic awesomeness. :D
This track is just genius. Every part of it is interesting and good.
I have loved that song for about 15 years :D
I got the game when I was a child.
The BEST human music in any of the Warcraft games handsdown :)
NOSTALGIA SYSTEM OVERLOAD
thx for puting this , great song heh talk about the old days ;)
It sure makes any Warcraft related game better! I was playing Hearthstone with this song and I was feeling so pumped up! lol
oh man this takes me back, the greatest game ever when i was a kid
The classic of the classics! This is so nostalgic!
The part between 0:00 and 0:08 is so mysterious. I love it !
YOUR SOUNDCARD WORKS PERFECTLY
I like how Warcraft 2 turned into a series of alliances, with all of the Human nations and Orc clans, and all of the other races who joined in each side.
That music is so haunting. Haha. Brings back memories. Wish my disc didn't break.
Glen Stafford's music is amazing!
This makes me want to play the game again :)
This song is simply buried in my heart.
Warcraft 2, where your cheat codes will not save you from death coil or polymoth abilities.
the entire game's ST is clearly Top3 videogames of all-time.
That composer is just 10 levels above everybody else.
Hearthstone: 0:00 and 2:35
Heroes of the Storm: 1:48
Final Fantasy: 2:08
Is the section at 2:08 emulating Final Fantasy or something? Can you explain that?
I really love that Blizzard recycles their ancient soundtracks in their newer games. Really leaves something for us veterans to enjoy.
Yeah I noticed the final fantasy prelude is in there as well.
2:08 is just an arpeggio, a common music technique.
Like Nagoragama said, it's just a chord broken into single notes.
Omg warcraft 2... Best OST to a game, any game ever done.. So fing good. All tracks are gems.
The whole track is great, but I especially love how it starts. Those first few seconds.
1:27 o.O BADASS PART !
One of the best tracks in the history of computer gaming.
Ahhhh, brings back so many memories....
@aaaaaa001001 I loved doing that too. The ships were some of the best: "Stop rocking the boat", "you're making me sea sick." "*throws up*" Clicking the critters until they exploded was pretty funny too.

thanx...i hope i can find wc2 again and remember the old years......!!!!
Clicking TEST SOUND until the guy says "It doesn't get any better than this" = PRICELESS
Yes, please. They need to make another RTS. Best friggin' part of the series.
Awaiting orders
Amazing! Incredible! Impressive! Ashtoning!
1:48 best part!
Man, I remember when I thought those were the best CG animations we'd ever see.
ahh the song does make us feel as though we are the captains of our own ships, and like true captains, we must go down with our ships with great nobility and pride!
-original quote! hehe
@IceBaine Human 2 on Warcraft 2 Tides of Darkness. That was more of a call out to all of us who played the game for so long back in the day we still hear the track progression listening to them.
Long before Blizzard sucked. My how far they have fallen the past two decades.
"My lord?" "For the alliance" "Yes?" (Hammer and saw sounds) "Job's done".
These good old days :')
The intro is awwwweeesome. I can hear the peons chopping trees...
Huge nostalgia bomb, I am instantly transported back to elementary school!
Oh man you are old
Aye aye, sir.
Underway!
you know, world of warcraft music never moved me like this game's soundtrack did. I dont know how they did it, but the music from this game stuck with me longer than any other game ever.

Yes m'lord? Right-o. Job's done. M'lord? Right away. WE'RE UNDER ATTAAACK!!
My absolute favourite song from WC2 ^^ It's one of those songs that sticks on your brain, that you don't mind.
one word: classic
Warcraft 2 was and will always be the best warcraft game ever made imo :P
"Stop rocking the boat"
"You're making me sea-sick"
"Bluuurgh!!"
Aaah .. memories.
