Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness (1995)
Composer: Glenn Stafford
Arranger: Robert Garner
Audio Editing: Zeynep Dilli, Josh Haas, Jimyo Lin, Jamin Morden, Lee Stearns, Scott Luxenberg, Elias Schwartzman
Video Editing: Lee Stearns
Music Director: Jamin Morden
Choir Director: Jacob Coppage-Gross
Arranger's Notes: The real-time strategy game “Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness” continued the story of a war between Orcs and Humans, in which the player could join either side to gather resources (gold, lumber, or oil), construct buildings, and train and deploy troops. The players could face off against the computer in AI-controlled scenarios in the main campaign of the game, or connect to this newfangled “Internet” thing to spar with human opponents in real-time via a dial-up connection on a variety of map settings.
Since different strategies could result in games lasting anywhere between minutes and hours, composer Glenn Stafford designed much of the music to work as infinite loops. The soundtrack had to sustain interest without distracting from gameplay, requiring a consistent energy and catchy melodies. Stafford achieved this brilliantly, although bound within the technical limitations of the time.
Both races’ themes use minor keys extensively. A military tone is usually present, along with tension and drive, to reinforce that there is much at stake. Human tracks feature strong melodic lines and harp arpeggios, while the Orc themes employ chromatic runs, trills, and turns, with the harpsichord adding tone color. Our arrangement is a medley of melodies from different stages of the game.

I don't know how I wound up in this corner of UA-cam, but I thoroughly approve of the algorithm's choice to send me here.
We’re very glad to have you :)
Glenn Stafford is a musical genius and this performance was on point. 🎉❤
Thank you so much :)
I love that people are still making covers of music from this game 27 years later :D Warcraft 2 had such a magical soundtrack.
They make covers from the best games of all time.
Even blizzard is making covers and using them in wow
28 years ago? Omg we're old
@@Mitthradata It's older than I am, but BNET edition was still in stores in 2006 when I bought it. Crazy to think about that, 7 years felt like a long time then, but now what was 7 years ago? What came out in 2017? RE:7, Super Mario odyssey, Breath of the Wild. Scary.
how is that possible, i´m only 26
Obrigado por esta linda homenagem ao nosso Warcraft II, foram batalhas épicas presentes eternamente em nossas memórias.
Your sound card works perfectly.
It doesn't get any better than this! 😊

The audio fidelity of this online mix is absolutely amazingly good. Its kind of impressive so many people have so good microphones.
Thank you! I know our AV team will appreciate your kind words!
Beyond beautiful. Maybe I’m biased because WC2 has a very special place in my heart since the olden days but man, Glen Stafford did so right with music and the huge leap of gameplay from the original Warcarft. To see some people nowadays render brilliant presentation of this classic’s outstanding music is just 👌❤
OST Warcraft 2 is awesome and this is a fantastic orchestral version. I love it
tysm!
Wow! This has been the best one yet I think in terms of video. Great job everyone!!
Magnificent! Warcraft II soundtrack is amazing and this potpourri is astonishing!
Thanks! We're excited everyone is so excited about this one :)
More work?!
Yesh, me lord.
O-okay
This is the best orchestral version of WC2 I've heard. You guys really made it flow so well from one song (or one piece of the song) to another, while keeping the integrity of the original music - but deviating enough so that it's not just an attempt to mimic midi with an orchestra. I love it so much!
Amazing, love it!!
That was absolutely fantastic. Everything was solid. I have no more words
Amazing! I loved the game and the music when I was a child, and this sounds incredible!! Thanks for sharing!!
Definitely one of the best WC II covers out there. Going to be listening to this on a lot. 🙂 My only regret is that the Orc 3 song cuts off right just before its best part (the part featured in Hearthstone while being matched to an opponent). That line is the best part of the WC II soundtrack. I'd love to hear the group play the entire piece!
Amazing 🎉
Fantastic job by all concerned!! Sound and video synchronization is unbelievably tight, and the arrangement completely rocks. You guys rule, and I admire your fighting spirit, not letting COVID stop you!!
So much talent in one video! Incredible job guys! All I wanted for Christmas in 96ish was this game. great times😢
thank you so much :)

I love this so so so much. Thank you all for doing this. What incredible music. It's a joy to hear it brought back to life with real instruments.
Thank you for your kind words!
holy heck this deserves like 1000x more views. excellent!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you :) we’re really feeling like we need to do more of these types of videos!
This is absolutely fantastic! Glad to stumble upon this this evening 😊
I love how you managed to make it sound like modern wow music but still retained the classic feel of the tracks!
Thank you guys, and thank you Glenn.
This awesome music lives on in World of Warcraft as the BGM when you engage in pet battles (it’s like a simplified implementation of Pokémon)
During one stretch I was doing nothing but pet battles in wow for weeks and so this theme has been embedded deep inside the depths of my memories, surrounded by images of cute little cats and scorpions smacking each other.
@@aardv_ark glad it’s still making waves out there 🐱 🦂
thank you for the memory :) really well done too!
Thank you so much!
This was really stunning. Incredible discipline and unit cohesion for every one playing part. This isn't easy to pull off.

perfect song
famous work pleople
Damn nostalgic music ❤ i'm not very knowledgeable in music but it feels very close to the original. It gets me curious if you had to rate it in difficulty would it be rather toward easy / difficult ?
Our musicians said “3/10” difficulty :) but I imagine our audio team that put the clips together would have a much different story!
u are insane guys!
Shwobu!
Master?
Yes Master!
Is the sheet music anywhere??
If you email arranger.services@wmgso.org they can let you know if this arranger is sharing the score and get it your way if so :)

no harp? what/who is doing the harp parts? like at 0:43 and 2:41 for example
I agree! (But I’m also the new harpist for the group :) I believe the harp part for this was a piano harp button..
