- I’ve been losing my hair for about 5 years. During this time it’s had an incredibly negative impact on my self esteem. I viewed having a thick head of hair as beautiful, honest and powerful, while being bald is often portrayed as a visual and moral ugliness.
Prior to a few months ago, I could count on one hand the number of people that I shared these feelings of “ugliness” with. I buried them, and did what I could do to prevent people from noticing my thinning hair.
Recently I said “FRICK THAT”, and decided to start being open and honest about how hard it’s been to watch my hair slowly disappear. At first this was challenging because I’m not used to being this vulnerable.
But, after two months of owning the buzzed head look, and having open conversations about why balding has been super shitty for me, these feelings of “ugliness” have mostly evaporated.
Losing your hair sucks. But talking about it makes it easier.

im 23 been using minoxidil for the pass 6 months and i just had a receding hairline and only applied on the hairline and its back!

As a 19 year old who's losing hair, I really think people make it look like a bigger deal than this is. When you cut your hair you looked really good, you shouldn't be ashamed.

@@UsedToBeMax I also start losing my hair at 19, although its slow now im 23 and its becoming noticible. I struggle with the idea that i dont know if i should do somthing about it or not (Medication). For one side it would be cool to keep my hair and maybe regrow some, but on the other side i feel like its running away,i dont want to be dependent on meds and eventually if i do it and then stop i will lose my hair anyway. I also think that if i shaved ill be just as happy with or without hair so why should i care.
But yeah, just wanted to share my thoughts with you, since you seem to be in the same situation where i once was.

I’m remember when I was at the gym working out and I saw almost everyone around me with their new haircuts. I remember this girl giving complements to her boyfriend about he’s new haircut. I just walk out of the gym, and went straight to my car. It was really depressing at the moment for me, because it seems that I’m the only one balding 😔 I did wanna cry but at the same time feel really angry about myself. I didn’t talk for a month with anyone, including my family because no one will understand me. Since that incident, today I shaved my head and embrace it. I don’t feel bad about myself no more, believe me guys it was a big relief for me. Stay strong my balding friends because small things can’t stop us from living a happy life.
Branson Liimo glad you’re keeping your head up, stay strong and be happy. I recommend you to start hitting up the gym, get a good physique body, just to gain more confidence on yourself. That’s what I’m doing, but for now I’ll stick to home workouts since we have this pandemic going on lol
There's like four bald guys at my gym. I can't tell them apart because they're so similar in body an face. Apart from that I don't care about them anymore than I do about the other strangers at the gym. All that negativity is just in your head.
dunnotck1 well, so far I’m doing fine. But there’s moments when I picture myself having hair and that’s what keeps me mentally distracted. Hopefully there’s something in the future to cure/prevent hair loss permanently, so other generations would not go through such discomfort about themselves.

I can feel your pain... Man, here in my country people in general hate bald guys, specially women. I shaved my head when I was 21, I'm almost 26 now, but my life was never the same, the shame of being different than most people of my age, the feeling that I look 40yo instead of looking my real age, the feeling that I'm always two or three steps below other Young guys and the impossibility to change my haircut or my appearance, it Hurts, It Hurts really deep.

@@Rey_Fantasma some do care while others don't. Hair is just a part of you, just like intelligence, muscles, money or personality. I can assure you that you can be attractive being bald, ugly or poor as long as you treat yourself as though you are the most important person in the world.
This video brought tears to my eyes . Am 22 and started to notice my receding hairlines and less densed crown . Am very depressed . Sure this video didn't solve my problems but it did put a smile on my face .

Whenever I see a bald guy indoors, I think 'look, there is a guy'. Whenever I see a guy wearing a hat indoors I think 'look theres an insecure bald guy'
I actually got a bit teary with the last bit. The depression just gets overwhelming. I have constantly felt that I won't find anyone due to my hair loss. Anyway 2 days ago I shaved it off and while it's early I feel the weight off my shoulders. I think this will help along with other things build my confidence and live my life! Great video btw! PS. I have a disability (Cerebral Palsy) but hand on heart the hair loss has made me more self conscious than that.

After finally leaning into balding, I like looking on the bright side: drying your hair after it gets wet is a breeze, you never have to worry about having disheveled hair in wind, after talking off a hat, or getting out of bed and the feeling of air between your head and upper ear lobe is great. Yeah~ I started losing hair at similar age. I was like WTF its 20-30 years too early. I started using drugs to halt it and asked hairdresser for shortest option possible. I am 30 now and some hairs regrow~ well~ they did but they are lighter and shorter than healthy version. Will have to shave bald soon anyway so dont waste money 😂 (I was paying 100$ per three months 🙄)

As a 26 yo bald guy, this hits home. Thanks for making this. I went through all the stages and it really hits the nail on the head. I wish there was more content about this because it’s such a common issue and there are so many individuals struggling with their self image and are stuck on step 3-4. The r/bald page helped a lot as well as some of my favorite bald comedians.

3 years of balding almost destroyed my self-esteem. I thought that nobody will love me again, nobody will hire me. I broke up with my girlfriends because of that and stopped to hang out with several friends. I spent a lot of money on hair loss remedy. I wasn't bald yet, but I started to live in the future and stopped living in the present. Then I realized all of this. It's so funny, because they are just hair and they never really helped me with anything. I feel good now, it doesn't bother me anymore.

love it man, this just gave me the confidence to finally buzz my hair at 1 am after two hears of thinning and receding. Best decision I've made all week, I immediately feel a ton better and 80% of my anxiety just went in the trash with my what little hair I had left.

Hey I was feeling really shitty as I just noticed that I'm losing my hair. This made me laugh and cheered me up yet hit me in the feels. I think the shaved look looks really good on you!
I started noticing thinning on my scalp when I was 17. But it got worse when I turned 18. It wasn’t that bad unless you looked carefully or if I was under bright light. People would say I still have lots of hair left that will lay a good couple of years but tbh I just want to go bald now. I didn’t have a long “depression” phase I was self conscious for a few months but I kept watching these types of videos and it really helped boost my confidence. Now I don’t give a shit anymore about what people think of my hair. I’m turning 19 next week and I’ve decided to completely shave it off.

This was probably the most moving video I've seen on youtube. Everything you said was exactly true and what I have experienced, thought, and googled. I am on step 4.5. I just bought my clippers and will probably cut it in a week or two.
I relate to some of the steps here lol and ngl it hurts a lot. I loved my hair ever since I was a child, I loved styling it. For me it was my best asset, I loved keeping it long. I'm in a phase of problem solving and also noticing everybody's hairlines and being envious about it. It was really depressing since I needed my hair for a stage play and I am the only best suit in terms of overall character except for my hair. We needed to shoot some promotional materials but, my hair just can't cooperate. I can see everyone's having hard time with styling my hair. It was too depressing, then I have to smile and things like that ugh ._. I'm 19 yrs old rn.
Ok this was long but yeah had to let it out. Confidence is slowly drained out of my body.

I'm in a very slow thining process and i've started head-shaving like a year ago. #bestdecision
The problem is that the hair still grows very fast (but thiner at the top) and i dont really enjoy the shave process, and after 3 or 4 days it looks weird.
I can relate 100% to this video, heck I even looked at the same vids you were watching in this video lol. People don’t get how tough it’s. I still haven’t got the courage to do step 5, but videos like these are really encouraging!

Im 20 and im balding even though my ancestors weren’t bald at all, in fact they had a lot of hair, but out of nowhere the baldness installed of my head... why meee? How it’s possible?
A Z but my uncle ( mom’s brother) and my grandpa (mom’s dad) had and still has a lot of hair, no sign of balding at all, in fact they have more and more hair than my dad’s side.

A Z I went to a dermatologist to see if I have some problems with the skin of head but he said that my baldness is genetic even though I said that my ancestors weren’t bald... yea whatever will be I will accept, and if I will truly go bald I will shave my head and that’s it... but maybe is just a 20 years old thing and after some years hair will grow again thicker...

Y’all have it so fucking easy lmao, I started balding when I was 12 and it essentially ruined my life in the way that it changed me entirely as a person. I was such a happy kid in middle school and then I got looked at as a weirdo and a crackhead because my hairline was receeded af in 6th grade. 7th grade I was probably getting made fun of my looks and hair for the whole year and I never once had a girlfriend once I started losing my hair.’ I covered it up with a crop cut and I’m 15 now but I always stress about if people will see my hairline and bad haircuts destroy my self esteem 😂 anybody saying this isn’t a serious issue is stupid this has literally fucked up my self esteem I’m 15 bro my hair is on my mind everyday I just don’t wanna go bald and on top of that school sucks like smh
