  • Stucco to cover block walls or exterior plaster.
FYI, we are located in the Oakland, Ca, area, Across the bay from San Fransisco.
Howdy Folks, all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon's website.

Live long and plaster hats, shirts, and other cool stuff. www.livelongandplaster.com/
    Kirk Giordano Plastering Inc.
For immediate bids, send pictures to Jay or myself at our sites below.

    www.GiordanoPlastering.com/ Jason’s Website.
Howdy, all in this video, we’re explaining while demonstrating how to improve the look of, CMU, or cinder blocks.
This same stucco method also works for stone or rock walls; even the red clay Terra-Cotta was used about 80 to 100 years ago.
If you want to see how Terra Cotta blocks are covered with cement stucco and made 4 times as strong as usual, click here. • Stucco over TerraCotta...
Terra-cotta block walls are still used in many parts of the world today.
FYI, no chemical bonding was necessary, "Weld-create- nor Quickrete," as the natural mechanical bond was more effective. New stucco can be applied over the cementitious Blocks.
Note it's necessary to keep the blocks moist with a water hose to achieve permanent adhesion.
If anyone thinks, man, ole Kirk is working that man to death, that’s bull.
Edgar Velasquez is my nephew. I didn’t realize he would spoil the crap out of me, bring the stucco, and drop it on my hawk.
This shaved an hour off our day and saved my knees and back.
Ratios for sand and stucco mixing by the book.
How much sand is for each coat of stucco?
Scratch coats are mixed at 1 part cement to 2-1/4 to 4 parts sand, brown coats are mixed at 1 part cement to 3 to 5 parts sand, and finish coats are 1 part cement to 1-1/2 to 3 parts sand.
We often mix 3 parts of sand with every part of cement plaster.
The cement plaster we use is any Portland cement, such as Quikrete or Sakrete.
Note, Rapid Set or Greencore are sold at Home Depot but don’t need added sand, just water.

Hey Kirk, the walls are beautiful and all the neighbors love the finished look, especially us! It was great meeting you, Jay and the crew. You're a very generous man, taking the time to video your work and then upload it for others to learn some of your secrets to beautiful stucco and plastering.

Thanks for the great info! I am working on a bid to finish the block wall foundations on a log home that I helped to build this last summer. The last house they put a thin coat in and you can see every grout line when it rains! I wanted to make sure I was going to be doing it right since I have never done much of this besides a few small plaster repairs. So much great info here!

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  4 роки тому

Good evening Bart, if you can see the grout lines when wet, this means it was not applied thick enough.
You can also paint the foundations with a quality primer and paint.
This way, when it rains, the grout lines don't show.

Hello, I love your Videos, 40 years ago when the Carpenters I worked fr had no work for me they would Send me over to work with a French Canadian Plaster, "Clay", I mixed and Carried Hod, Set Scafloding, moved the set up before the need and did a Good Job. I learned enough to do some small contracting of Shower surrounds, ready for scratch and green. I ripped them out and set them up for Scratch and ready for Tiles. Made a lot more bringing in the "Second Plaster" Guy on my Jobs after his full day or on Saturdays. Learned a lot, I was a kid but working with men. all served me well to cash flow my BA and Masters Degree, hustling side jobs and doing window installs in Stucco and plaster CA Bungalows I ripped them out set the new windows and readied for the Plaster to come in behind me. Most of the time I had materials and mixed for him. Thanks, I am going to watch your fix your Alternator.

  • @user-li7lx6tg6v
    @user-li7lx6tg6v 10 місяців тому

Hey Kirk I have watched every video you have made.
    Some multiple times 🤭
I have never gone stucco ever.
My girlfriend lives right on the golf course, and her wall gets plastered buy everything including high-power sprinklers.
Her stucco was falling off in sheets.
After watching your videos, I figured out that someone didn’t clean up first I’m assuming.
So I removed majority of it with the power washer
And redid the base and the brown coat.
I did La Habra crystal white
    In pretty brutal and conditions.
We live in Palm Springs, California.
    It’s either do it when it’s 120°
Or do it when it’s cold and windy and we had pretty good rain this last winter.
    I did everything by myself
And to say it was challenging, is an understatement.
    Highwinds are normal here
But I had to dodge golf balls
    Sprinklers
    And HOA lol.
I wanted to send you some pictures and thank you for your big-time help. I would never of done it without you.
    There’s a few side notes.
I found myself unable to apply and then have time to come back and finish the texture
And it’s a 70 foot wall I did both sides.
I know that you’ve preached no joint lines but that was going to be impossible for me
    Or at least I thought.
After a lot of thought, and some failures
I decided to apply and finish at the same time with a red float.
    As I was finishing
I had multiple people trying to hire me.
I think it turned out pro, but would love to hear your professional opinion if I can figure out how to send you the photos. And I had one question.
I am pouring a walkway along side, a cinderblock retaining wall that I just built.
    That’s another first.
My question is, can I use some of my leftover Crystal light packets to mix into my concrete mix and make a cool white walkway.
And if so, do I just mix it like I did with the stucco it seems to make sense I mean it’s Portland cement, right?
Thanks in advance I hope to send you some pictures
You might even want to hire me lol

Kirk, as always another excellent video and Jay did a great job on the texture. I don’t understand the nasty comments here, they can’t be more inaccurate. Must be jealous that they don’t have your skill set or work load.

Today when I was repairing dented corner beads in a house, I was using a rod as you’ve demonstrated to make them easily straight again and thought of you. As they say “work smart, not hard”. Kirk, I have just recently discovered your youtube channel. And boy am I glad I did. I need your advice on what products and the ratios i should use on my retaining walls. I live in Massachusetts and the house was built in 1950 and the walls (poured concrete form boards
) have a heavy dash finish on them. Most of the original finish has either over time deteriorated or i have chiseled off. I have done some patch work, wire brushed and pressure washed them ready for the heavy dash finish. Over the last few weeks you have given me the confidence i need to tackle this job and i must say very much entertained me at the same time. I can tell you really know your business because i too have been in a trade (autobody) for over 30 years. Hope you have the time to respond. My best to you and your lovely family, William

Hey Kirk. Thanks for all the great videos! Question: How do you stucco a CMU block wall that has a control joint? It’s that gap in the wall for long stretches of block. Do you put a plaster stop on each end or an expansion joint mesh? Thanks Kirk!!!

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  2 роки тому +1

Evening Matt, no control or expansion joints for block walls, why Not?
Blocks don't expand like wood does when in the direct sun for weeks let along moths.
An no for J trim on the ends plus no stucco netting or mesh nettings of any kind.🤔
