I thought that was Mathew's family's big John Deere. Thanks, BTP for all you do for your fans.
@@SteveHolsten Matthew has a pretty cool channel. Been over there for a while :)
@@pickelsvonbrine Yes he does. I learned about him One Lonely Farmer's channel.
One of my favorite channels. Love the crossover episode!
When I was doing rice in southeast Missouri we discoed once field cultivate once pulled land plane 2 different directions planted rice put levees up installed gates then put the water flush to it. After seeing it was good stand flooded fields
That gives a whole new meaning to "air seeding". Flying under the power lines was a nice touch. Great video, Jason!
I never knew there were so many steps and just preparing to plant rice Seating from the air that’s pretty cool
Wow ,a lot of work for rice. Cant believe how cheap it is. Great video.
Freedom Ring we seed about 165 lbs and acre and harvest 10,000 lbs so fortunately the works is worth it. When it comes to the market it’s a volume game.

@@Ricefarmingtv how much does a pound of rice sell for??
I've been watching Rice Farming TV for sometime now! Matthew puts things in a real down to earth prospective. Great video. Love the slow motion of the plane. Absolutely love the Rice Crispy video that he did 🤣. I've watched that one over and over
Very interesting. Didn't realize you had to work the ground so much. I've seen the fields out in Imperial Valley and the soil is not mellow at all. Clods hard as concrete. I'm sure it's the same up north.
I know it was always a big thing to put rice tires on your combine in the 70's back in Illinois. Looking forward to harvest!
I saw the 8640 in the start of the video and KNEW you were showing off Rice Farming TV. Nice!
😁👍👍
awg6397 you nailed it, man!

I said the same thing!
Very cool to see the application of the fertilizer. Looks like a very light setup that could possibly alleviate some of the issues we have in Europe using manure tankers for CULTAN application.
Its a great Sunday Bonus Matthew kind of day! Once in the morning, once in the evening, real busy rice seeing time of year. Sure enough is good to see Matthew's family operation getting their spring season underway.Gotta hand it to Matthew Sligar, if someone wants to learn about the fine quality of California Rice, just check out Matthew at his Rice Farming TV channel on the old youtube system! -Bob...
I’ve seen some of his videos before. Guy makes some good informative stuff. Always wondered how they got along running those pre emission tractors in Cali as strict as their stupid laws are on that kind of stuff. It hurt the trucking industry pretty hard out there I know.
@Farmer George Yeah breathable air is so overrated. Not sure you equate commercial trucks to small business but you do know that Gale Banks (Banks Performance) lives and works out of California making aftermarket parts for diesels and that the majority of his parts are available in California. I'm no fan of the EGR and DPF crap however if we keep filling the air with poisons what will our children and grandchildren breathe?
Farmers do not get enough respect
With plane! Wow wonderful
Love both channels been subscribed to both for a long time. As soon as I saw the title I hoped to see Matthew.
Wild process. Thanks for sharing.

This was amazing to see..Thanks for the great content BTP and RicefarmingTv
Damn! Best episode yet! Great review. Love the work you do!
Thank you for watching.
That seems like a massive amount of effort compared to most other conventional crops across north america. Is rice worth that much more to cover all the additional costs involved with preparing and planting ?
I was going to ask the same question
Indiana resident here. Not going to lie, I didn't even know you COULD grow rice in California! Lol
Wow, planted by plane!
It’s pretty neat to see.
@@bigtractorpower does getting pelted with it hurt?
It's an interesting process. Definitely different than the traditional technique.
That was a awesome video!
Thank you for making this video. I live in the same area and farm as well.
Very cool. California is a great agriculture state. Such a diversity of crops.
That was great. :)
Good vedeo 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
👍👍
This is another great video
Thank you for watching.
My goodness, after all those operations, I hope they get a good return on their crop, I would have thought it may be better using contractors using big articulated four wheel drive tractors of 500/600 hp pulling wider cultivators keeping the cost down . Kevin Fox, London Essex
That was my thought, too. I was very irritated by the operations. It looks a bit overdone to mee. Especialy the leveling, followed by a very unstable injector (wondering why it is floating so much, it is 3-Point mounted so what the fuck) and later raced on by that roller (great, get it uneven, you're just leveled it, but ok). I would recommend to kick the leveling process, inject the fitst time and then go with a seedbed cultivator to "level it" and getting a very smooth, fine surface. Also i would change the first chisel ploughs, because they don't maintain their working depth as seen. They should use some with the main wheels lifted and get one with adjustable ones at front and rear to get the chisel more stable and ballanced. less passes, better quality and less operations, which are more effective. just my idea of getting the money out
Seems a little crazy to farm such things in a constant drought stricken area, especially since they need to flood it to grow it, then do everything possible to dry the ground out to prep before planting ?
What happened to the rear tires on the Case at 5:20, half the tread is missing ?
Still very interesting, thumbs up !
10000000 black birds can’t be wrong!!
What size tires are they running on the magnum tractors
Ah hi btp. You’re welcome I was watching
Thank you for watching.
Are you in California or did you receive the footage?
I do not see any of the older tractors rolling coal, do they need to retrofit them in CA?
Butch, I farm in Northern California as well and can say that the old tractors do smoke. Up here we’re “encouraged” to upgrade to newer machines through the Air Resource Board’s programs but at the end of the day the old tractors are simply more reliable. The programs allow for repower projects on the old machines to tier 4 engines but I have yet to see a project like that. Hope it answers your question.
Great video! Not all the BS on Matt's videos.
Steve Adams sorry for all the BS over on my channel. I’ll keep that in mind. Jokes.

You explained it better than he has.

That’s a lot of wear and tear on equipment with all that tillage.
Matthew has a macitence video on his channel on how they prepare the equipment for tillage. All part of the job.
Matthew Sligar!

Thanks Jeremy!

Lot of steps in tillage. Doesn't look like the best finish little rough.
The weight of the water will smooth it all right out.
@@bigtractorpower, Where DOES all that water come from ? Thanks.
7 passes then fly on good grief!..Glad I am no-tilling over half my beans..Burn down then plant then done..

That was very cool, Jason. I had never seen this process before because rice just isn't grown in my area. Thanks for making this video.
This was a neat operation to feature. Lots of big iron and tillage.
Powerful John Deere
Slightly different video btp, but highly interesting..... 👍
Coming back to CA, can I give you my resume?
The Japanese are amazed!!.
They just found out there are other ways of farming rice besides with their hands😂😂
Yeah they probably are that is way easier than transplanting
@@madeinamerica7792, I wonder who's technique is more profitable and less environmentally harsh ?
august relax it was a joke
Indonesian too, we transplant rice just like in japan
I am first wachig your video thank you two mr BTP and Mr matthwe
Thank you for watching. It is exciting to get to feature rice farming.
This must be Sacramento Valley planting rice
I have been subscribed to the Rice channel for about a year but this was very interesting. The entire process is quite intricate. i really liked the idea of seeding by airplane.. The last year I farmed out in Washington back in the late 70's I had a circle of winter wheat planted (145) acres cause the road to the field was washed out and impassable. It worked great and had a really nice stand of winter wheat. Progress is always interesting in modern agriculture.
Sweet collab video guys
It was a fun project. I can’t wait until harvest.
Why were half of the Case tires bald ? Front and rear inside duals.
That's what I would like to know. That was a crazy wear pattern, wasn't it ?
Very interesting 👍 good video.
I had no idea how rice was seeded. Amazing!!! Thanks Jason.
Guees i should have watched the whole video before commenting lol
It takes a lot of fuel to prepare a field for rice, i didn't realize you had to make so many passes with different equipment. Rice must be worth a few bucks to justify so many passes.
Loved how you explained it thanks
I'm amazed you can actually go grow rice in California I never knew rice was grown here in North America. Thanks for another great informative video greetings from Alberta
Yes California, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri and a small part of Kentucky raise rice.
Here in Arkansas there are over 1 million acres of rice farmed (most of it along the Mississippi river) accounting for around 40% of total US production. Riceland rice is a farmer owned co-op headquartered in Stuttgart, Arkansas and is the worlds largest miller and marketer of rice according to Wikipedia. Glad I looked it up. I knew rice was big here but didn't know it was that big.
There is so much rice grown in California that the broiler and turkey complexes in the Central Valley use rice hulls to bed their houses rather than the wood shavings used commonly in the Eastern United States.
Very nice to see how rice is seeded in NA, some things are very similar to the way its been produced here in my region (southern Brazil, a very traditional rice productor (about 70% of all Brazilian rice production))
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing. Farming around the world is interesting to know about.
Arkansas Rice. It's the right way. ;) And it's not as far as California for you.
Very educational video. I look forward to seeing the harvest of this crop!
I am exited to see the harvest too.
How do they ever make money burning all that fuel !?
Shredxcam22 These farm vehicles are actually pretty efficient with the amount of work they can accomplish in relation to the amount of fuel they consumed. The income that comes from harvesting and then selling their crop typically outweighs the fuel costs by a significant amount.
@@michaelmurray7199, I would hope so or they would be out of business, or at least they should be, right ?
That was a very cool video. Thanks for posting

i thought cali banned old equipment?

That plane is the ultimate high-speed planter!
It very much is. That's so cool
You should come to the World Ag Expo in February in Tulare, California I recommend going one of the biggest farm shows here in the San Joaquin Valley! But great video thanks for sharing!

Good stuff BTP. A lot of us here in Ohio were joking last spring about planting rice, but let’s not relive Plant19 lol. I’ll have to check his channel out, I’ve seen it pop up in the suggestions but there are only so many hours in a day for UA-cam.
Thank you for watching. UA-cam viewing time is limited and I appreciate you checking out BTP. Last year was like expanded rice country. Hopefully not to be repeated any time soon.
This is part of California
Where is water???
They flood the fields after they are seeded.
Neat! I never knew that much prep work went into rice or much less that it is seeded by plane!
That's very interesting👍 well done👍
Thanks for very interesting video.
Now that's a fast "seeder" 😄
Okay, that is one aggressive tillage process - holy. One of my favorite BTP video's yet.
Thank you for watching.

I have followed this Matt for a while. He’s may favorite California Matt. But I’m still partial to Kentucky Matt! If I missed it, I’m sorry, but haven’t seen a video of Matt’s new JD planters running!
😁👍👍. You should see video of Kentucky Matt planting corn this week.
In my list of top 3 funnest ways to plant seed that has to be number 1. I had no idea that the seeds were planted by airplane. I suppose otherwise the plants have to be set in place like tobacco is that correct?
In the other rice growing areas the seeds are drilled. There's no large scale transplanting. Rice seeds are pretty hardy.
Wow Nice collab
Amazing
Thank you for watching.
Another oldie doing it`s chore!
A lot of that equipment looked like it came out of the 70’s and 80’s.
If it's paid for and runs, why spend a few hundred thousand dollars more for newer equipment
Just had some rice last night, so thank you very much fella!!!

Very interesting, thank you.
Thank you for watching.
what does articulated mean
It pivots in the middle. The tractor steers by bending in the middle instead of turning front wheels like your car would.
Amó California...💚💚💚
😁👍
I don’t know much but doesn’t California complain of drought every year? And yet they are flooding fields? Wouldn’t it make more sense to grow a crop that requires less water per acre? Again I don’t know much about rice farming. I live in corn/soy country
There's a lot more to story. Like a very high water table, hardpan shallow base so it holds water no problem, the Sacramento Valley is a drained, year round Swamp and a migratory bird flyway stop over feeding place. All of which are part of the crop culturing practices.
DR
This is also Northern California! They are located just down river from the Oroville Dam and the Feather River irrigation system
@@treemonkey_ma1718, That's true but I've seen some aerial photos of that area and they show very low water, compared to a few decades ago. But, I just realized that the Orville Dam was about to burst last year or the year before right ? Do they have serious fluctuations in the amount of water they get every year ? Thanks.
august Yes, every year has been different with the amount of water we get, for many years.
They have nice equipment
😁👍👍
