I’ve built several 3 and 4 string cigar box guitars but have wanted to build a 6 string similar to yours. This gave me some helpful tips and encouragement. You deserve a lot more subscribers. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, there is certainly some merit in your process of making a temporary neck pocket template rather than a one size fits all template to allow for differences in necks. I’ll keep your technique in mind as I proceed with my builds.
Very helpful video! Thanks for posting it. One question, can you help me understand why you put the masking tape on to make the neck pocket a little too tight, just to sand it back down so it'll fit? Thanks!
Glad it helped! Sometimes I use the masking tape as a safety measure so I can slowly work up a perfect fit, as oppressed to trying to get it right from the router. Though looking back at it, I tend to not use the masking take more often than I do, so it's an optional step. Thanks for watching!
@@baileyonbass6380 It is a general carpentry practice to make things too tight, then roll them back with finer tools. The philosophy is to not waste material by guessing. Some things require intense precision. You only order enough wood to do the job. You can't afford to experiment and waste material. Or, in the worst case, redo everything.
Nice demo of the process! Is that a neck you made or bought and updated the headstock? I ask because I like the straight grain of the roasted maple, and wonder where you may have bought it.
