I love the fact that when they look up, only Duck guy closes his eyes, while the other two die. Probably a reference to the fact that both Red guy and Yellow guy were able to see through their fake reality, while Duck was never able to
He was close to it in the first episode of the TV series, but never went further.
I think he doesn’t want to. Despite the horrible things they go through he finds the unknown possibilities far more terrifying. At least here he has a family and is guaranteed, regardless of the pain he is put through, to always be right as rain when a new episode starts.
Well, he has died the most of all of them so far, and been replaced multiple times. He's the most pliable to keep ignorant because he's the youngest. The upstairs lady literally replaced him before our eyes.

I love the art (first seen at 1:30) in the chorus, just the quick detail that Duck, rather than looking up with the other two, sqeezes his eyes shut and faces down. It makes sense, as he's the only character to never have acheived full self awareness (with the exception of ep5 of the webseries, but he dies soon after). The closest he every got in the TV show is in Jobs. As of the last episode it's pretty clear that he actually just refuses to question, like he's uncomfortable with the idea that something is off, even if he subconciously knows that there is something to look away from.
I feel like he doesn’t want to break the rules in the first episode his Ego wanted to get back to what he thought was gonna he supposed to be doing. if the lesson is going well he is fine. it’s the exact opposite for red He wants to out The only time that he doesn’t is in jobs and the family. Jobs he didn’t need to do anything exactly what he wanted to do in the beginning of the episode. and family he went along with it thinking he will escape and actually be able to meet new people pacifically his family but that gets taken away. two episodes later He decides to make a Escape and it worked For a moment they escape the simulated world but not out of the Control of Leslie So after A moment she just put them back in the same spot No explanation Just back to the same spot

What happens is that the series makes us understand that it's not that they can't, it's that, unconsciously, they don't want to go out, Leslie wants to keep them trapped in the house as innocent and ignorant children, and the subliminal message of the story is that being ignorant they are better and inside the prison that is their home they are better, since the outside world is worse, an example of this is Duck, who claims to be the smartest of the three and he is, he has enough IQ to escape but he unconsciously represses it by living in ignorance and not questioning, as if something inside him told him that if he did, something bad would happen, and every time Duck wants to go out and is aware that something is not right, it ends in a tragedy or in his own death

I like how duck is the only one who doesn’t die in the “dare to look up” line. While red guy’s head pops in a similar style to the end of S1E4 and yellow guy’s head gets chopped off, not sure what this is a reference to, but duck just closes his eyes real tight. This seems to be a reference to the fact that he is the only one left to not find out the secrets of the show, unless you say the clay hill show is cannon, which I DON’T.

While red guy is like WHAT PEOPLE?!
I feel like deep down duck maybe knows? But ignores it almost, doesnt think about it too hard or just straight up refuses to accept the truth whenever it gets- honestly shoved up his face.
A notable few times he becomes more self aware are S1E5, (which promptly leads to his death) and S2E1 i belive, with the whole job thing. And maybe thats why he just ignores everything? Opting to live with the oddness of it all out of fear.
If the web series happened before the TV show, maybe he doesnt quite remember it but his death then, in S1, might have just been traumatic enough that it stayed somewhere in his subconscious, then again in S2 he also gets promptly traumatized in some way almost as soon as he begins to question literally anything
I know they get 'reset' in some way at the end of each day (if it goes wrong enough) but there might still be a chance they have some semblance of the events theyre supposed to forget, just to keep them in line, and in fear.

I have listened to this song way too many times, and this is so amazing! The lyrics are incredibly clever, the melody is the same mix of haunting and childish as the actual show, and GOD i just love this song. Also the little details in the animation like Duck being the only one who doesn't have their stitches "pop" because they flinch and close their eyes instead of looking up because if you look up "the things that are in would come out" - of course they don't look up; they did in the webseries and got eaten, so they learned from their mistakes. Anyway, I love this SO MUCH.

This song perfectly feels like a great way of showing the feel of the series. Everything is bright and cheery, but it just feels unsettling, unfun, and a prison. It also keeps the hopelessness felt by the characters, and the feeling you’d get when they were so close to answers just to be thrown away (the reset and the shredder). Brilliant

After rewatching this song over and over again alot of the lyrics have alot of easter eggs in them which i think is incredibly cool like:

I love how "off" this song feels, it has the same exact vibe that the show does. The production feels really childlike but unsettling and so do the vocals. I really love your delivery. It gives me chills, it sounds like a scared and troubled child's voice (if that even makes sense 😅)

I love this song! I always get kinda emotional near the end, because I realize that if Duck and Red Guy had just let Yellow Guy keep the batteries, they could have escaped their hell.
Exactly, it's so bittersweet at the end because they're kinda bonding by shredding the book....but GUYS. That was your way out. Goshdang. 🙄
I think the windows in Lesley's room are instructions on what Yellow Guy, Red Guy and Duck need to do in order to break the cycle. Yellow Guy used the batteries, which are contained in the yellow window in Lesley's room in the last episode - that step was done correctly, allowing Yellow Guy to regain his awareness and ascend up the stairs. However, the chips from episode 3 are contained in the green window, and the shovel from episode 2 is conrained in the red window - that's not how it goes in the series - Red Guy is the one who opens the chips, and Duck is the one who uses the shovel to kill his clone. According to the windows, it's supposed to be the other way around. It's pretty likely that if they do everything as the windows say they should, all three will gain awareness and go up the stairs together, with no one to rip out Yellow Guy's batteries and make him shred the book or otherwise get rid of it.
I really think it is the duck's fault tho, that guy has anger issues
@@IndigoDraws That's a great theory actually! The shovel supposed to be used by Red can also be somewhat foreshadowed by Red wanting to be dead during the Death episode. He was MEANT to die, he just doesn't know it and felt the urge to be dead. And the chuddle dollop chips- Duck had found them at the start of the episode. He was MEANT to open them. And during the episode, an apple starts to talk, before getting eaten by one of the twins. The episode wasn't meant to be about family, it was meant to be about choosing a healthy option to eat, with it ending with Duck opening the chuddle dollops anyway. But that didn't happen due to the twins' meddling.
My personal theory is that Roy has control over the teachers, which is why the episodes didn't seem to go to plan, while Lesley has some form of control over the main three. Lesley gave the book to Yellow because she actually kinda wanted the three to escape, and gave them all a chance, but it got screwed over because the episodes hadn't played out correctly due to Roy controlling the teachers, resulting in it going wrong.
@@BOZMINE Y'know, this discussion is kinda inspiring me to maybe make a fancomic of DHMIS.
I only started forming the idea after reading your reply just now so it's far from complete, but it'd basically be a mix of two things, occasionally intertwining:
The first would be the shenanigans of Roy and Lesley, two gods(?) somewhat indirectly screwing with eachother in more or less subtle ways, mainly through the teachers and three main guys like you suggested Roy and Lesley respectively have control over - basically playing 5D chess using everyone below them in the toyhouse as pieces while seldom interacting directly.
The second, of course, would be all the stuff going on with our main cast and the teachers. The main focus would be on the cycle - the original DHMIS youtube series, how it slowly evolved into the DHMIS we see today in the TV series (and how Lesley came into the picture) and all the cycles before and after the one where only Yellow Guy regains awareness, with it (probably) eventually ending in the cycle where they all become aware and escape!
Oh my gosh, what a way to make a return to the platform! I absolutely cannot even lie, the song is actually making me tear up a little bit. It means so much to me that you decided to come back and keep making content for us. Here's to more K-MODO in the future!! (I really need to watch the show now...)

This is amazing and I love it and also I had to comment because I just realised what happens at the 'your stitches would pop' line, and then had to go back and rewatch it to catch everything. Red Guy's head explodes like it did at the end of the computer episode on the word 'pop', Yellow Guy gets decapitated, and - Duck just flinches, because he wasn't looking up. He knows better. ;_;

Wow, I legit teared up at this. The haunting melody, the minor keys, the distortion, it's _beautiful_ I love that stuff. Mwah, gorgeous. Also a little circus-y at the beginning. This and Fathers Day are my favourite DHMIS songs. Both catch the feel of the childlike guidelines the show barely fills out, but also the horrors that are just creeping out through the seams. Though i personally love the kind of monologue form this show takes, as if it's from Lesley's point of view? Original and i love it, great work!!

One detail that I like for the animation, is that at 1:59, it’s that same as 0:13, but red guy, and yellow guy, seem a little concerned, and it shows that they are kind of aware of the cycle. (I’m sorry if it didn’t make sense,) Also, the song goes really well with DHMIS, Great work!!

While everyone is so happy about the 'if you dared to look up' segment, theres one im more impressed about. In the chorus, there is a segment of the house. Its just the normal house. However, the foundation is cracked, and symbolizes how everything is on the verge of coming apart and crumbling. Really amazing detailing!!

This is one of the only dhmis animatics I've seen where Duck is an old man. I can appreciate the accuracy
I can’t over state how much I love this song, the image of washing blood off of plates is so evocative and mixes a surrealist horror feel with a mundane action. Even divorced from DHMS this song is amazing with such a tangible feeling of dread and cyclical harm. Knowing things aren’t right but feeling stuck, trying to fix things in ways that down help, like a scab being opened over and over, washing blood of the plates instead of stopping the bleeding. You will fight again and again but instead of doing the hard thing and improving you paint over the scratch, you keep on comfortably reliving that cold unforgiving hell.
Here's still hoping for Season 2!

I love how when red and yellow look up duck doesn't. it's a really neat reference to how throughout the show yellow and red try to escape the loop and question what's around them while duck is complacent to what's happening around them

I've always noticed how yellow guy and red guy both make important decisions and try to make a difference, but duck? Duck, as much as I love him, doesn't feel as important as the others, but I think that's the point. He's the one fooled by their illusion of a life.

im a little surprised no one else is mentioning the absolute GENIUS idea of using "as above, so below" in a dhmis context!
for those who dont know- "as above, so below" is an old saying that loosely means that everything that happens on the spiritual/higher plane also happens on our plane of exsitince. it could be used here in both a metaphorical and literal sense. lesley moves their puppets and controls their ever day and moment in that house, so shes metaphorically in a higher place than them. but shes also in one of the rooms above them, so shes literally in a higher place. this song/animation is so awesome and cool and is making me nerd out so much skxnzkznskxj

This was absolutely amazing! The animation was great, the art was amazing, and the song was incredible! The lyrics managed to not refer directly to dhmis or any of its characters, but you can still tell it’s a dhmis song if you’ve been in the fandom! (Something I really like, not a big fan of songs that are on the dot, they just seem somewhat lazy..)
I must admit that my expectations were low because dhmis songs are rare compared to other communities with songs, as well as me ever hearing one of your songs before, but this was absolutely incredible! I was blown away by everything!
I love walking the line with the lyrics like that, because if people like the song enough they can relate it back to other characters or shows they like, too - it's not so inclusive! And this show definitely needs more fan content, so I'm super happy to help with that! Thank you so much for the awesome comment!
