thanks for the reply Fuzz. My comment was really just to be funny. Im a huge Billy Strings fan. He can play any genre of music. He even has a solo vocal of an old gospel song which is amazing. Very true.. Billy is an all American!
He’s from a really rural hillybilly town in Michigan though. One of those towns that if you were dropped into it and didn’t know any better you’d probably guess you were in the south. So I get what you’re saying. He’s a pretty progressive person but he definitely has a good ole’ boy thing going on too.
@@joshualawson4440 Billy Strings was born William Apostol on October 3, 1992, in Lansing, Michigan and raised in Morehead, Kentucky, before his family moved to Muir, Michigan. He then moved to Traverse City, Michigan.
Give about ANYTHING to do so! Bit older bit poorer an bit more disabled.. but ohh how AMAZING they make me feel in my soul! Absolutley LOVE Billy an his dad. I often cry with joy-or old pains. Thats whut its all about!
He could do covers of multiple songs by the Byrds, the Yardbirds, and the Eagles. Little Wing, Rockin' Robin, Surfin' Bird (aka Bird is the Word), um, what else ... Wind Beneath My Wings? Broken Wings? I'm running out of bird-themed songs and groups. A Flock of Seagulls. Robin Thicke? Blackbird by the Beatles. The song Dirty Boulevard by Lou Reed for the lyric "fly fly away, from this dirty boulevard". Oh, when my daughter was younger she used to love The Duck Song (it's a children's song, you can find it on UA-cam). On Sesame Street Bert had a song about how much he loved pigeons. Okay, now I'm officially out of ideas, but that could make a pretty full concert.
What a treat would've loved to have been there for that! Bravo Billy very few can really pull that song off with the skill and showmanship that you possess!
In all these years after that plane went down, THIS does them justice! None since the original members made it so climactic! Well done! And the anthem continues
Okay, musically, I sorta feel like Wayne Campbell “we’re not worthy” kinda deal going on… but once the video and music stopped, I was left wondering how much dust in baggie it takes for someone to get up on stage dressed as a giant bird to play the hell outta Freebird like that? I hope this guy lives a long, fruitful, happy life, filled with love and music!
ken barr no question AC is in heaven enjoying this with Ronnie, but BS is mostly playing Gary’s iconic slide part here. AC’s scorching lead runs came in the outro.
But how many were shot!? Some hardcore Lynyrd Skynyrd fans might not find the humor. They'd be sayin, "Gimme back my bullets"! (They are from my hometown) I find it hilarious and coming from Billy Strings, appropriate! Did he finish out the show with a mixed melody of "Dust in a Baggie/Needle & Spoon"?
I feel like this entire performance was almost playtime for ol' Billy Strings. How could it not be? ***He's playing Free Bird wearing a fucking Bald Eagle costume.*** You can't be playing SERIOUS guitar like that on stage. BUT... I'm convinced. Billy can fucking SHRED when he's inspired. You cant give even a passable start-to-finish rendition of Free Bird on electric guitar with all those people watching without knowing your way around a guitar. This boy can fucking BOOGIE. I just wish he played electric more often.
Ya all should check out his guitar work on Voodoo Chile w/Umphrey's McGee and definitely watch "king and strings" from rooster walk 10 which features him AND Marcus King
Billy and friends costume up once in awhile. If they weren't the best musicians in the world, maybe it wouldn't work. But, with these guys it just comes across as humility being willing to make fun of themselves in the midst of their absolute mastery.
Billy forgetting the words at 3:10 had me cracking up lmao. I've read Billy talking about how he plays other genres and incorporates those into his bluegrass picking, really cool to see another genre in action!
@bm phil It is custom built by his grandfather when he was serving time in prison. He talks about it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/cSlGEFY4nTg/v-deo.html
Gonna tell my kids this is The Eagles
@Sawyer Armani 👎☻
Just spit up my beer laughing, thanks. If I had kids... fo sho.
This should’ve got more laughs. Bravo.
😂
Shit... wait..............
....
....what?
That's comedy!
Billy is the most Southern guy from up North that I have ever seen.
Love this guy.

he's great!I could listen to Billy Strings play anything but this song makes me think about how good it was to be living in the 70s
He's just amazing - and has a sense of humor. I hope he continues to grow, although I don't know how much better he could be...!
This is hysterical! I stand in utter awe!
So either he wore that outfit for a whole gig just for this one song or he planned a whole show of bird related tunes...

It was October 31. You know… Halloween.
A well the b-b-b-bird is the word 😂
@@brucenh9076 I'll add bird on a wire but you did great!🕊🙏

Every now and again Billy has to break out of his shell.
Now that's funny
yeah but gotta call this a fail
That's no yolk.

No Billy is free and this bird can't be changed.
Out of tune bird
I'm telling my son this is the national anthem and the eagle costume is a must

Holy S#$t !!! Is there 🤔 this kid can't do ? If so I've never heard it. Best, most humble guitarist I've seen since I can't even remember. 😊❤
Glad to see Billy and the Boy's dressing alike, emulating the early bluegrass greats from the past.
ROFL
I'm dead! 😂
The European mind cannot comprehend this
lol…that’s great…
Welp, I found it. It took 23 years but here it is. The best video on UA-cam.
Mission accomplished
Wow! Great job capturing this!
In all these years after that plane went down, THIS does them justice! None since the original members made it so climactic! Well done!

agreed, perfect interpretation!
I love it when the outfits match the song. Really helps me get into the mood of the music. Way to go Billy and band!
His grandfather sure did build an awesome guitar!!
That ax looks very cool, and sounds amazing!
This version sure is cerebral hits the high spot!
7:48 is without a doubt the sickest move i have ever seen. At that moment he was a bird
Epic as always he can play anything.
I was waiting for the rooster strut. 1st and only time you’ll hear freebird on and upright bass, mandolin and no drums. All GOOD… REAL GOOD!
This solo is healing. Rock on
Can say this is the first time I’ve heard free bird thru a stand up bass. It holds well

The feathers are flyin!!! Lol 🦄🐍🦄🐍
Hunter: I'm ready for bed.
Also Hunter: Let's watch this video of Billy Strings dressed like an Eagle playing Free Bird first!
I'm reading this comment and watching Billy Strings videos as i lay in bed at 2:30 in the morning. I feel you.
Thankfully the 70's gave us Ed Gary Allen and Steve to pave the way for Billy, nice job
No birds were harmed in the making of this video.
👍😂

How the hell have I not seen this before!!!!!???
This is epic
Yes we have feathers , but the muscles of men.
Billy got that one lick down! I will give him that! Billy strings and the muppets!!
The most bizarre part of that stunningly wacky performance was seeing Billy Faiing whamming away at a dreadnought guitar -
This made my day

Haha, the laidback birdgrass accompaniment and the rippin and shredding southern rock solo. Max contrast.

The intense serious concentration as he starts the the intro on slide is golden comedy in contrast to that silly ass outfit lol
I hope he stays off of heavy drugs. He offers us so much.

I always wondered what happened to Emu?
Hell yea, I never seen a bird play free 🐦 🐦
Stand up and salute! Joel

Does anyone know what guitar he's playing here?
The one his grandfather built in prison.
Ronnie Van Zant is in the beyond thinking " beautiful cover but why's them boys dressed like eagles". Great cover. And r.i.p Skynyrd band...
Where was this at? It looks like a Halloween show.
I was there! Tractor Tavern; Seattle, WA. Specifically, the Ballard neighborhood. Capacity of about 400.
Someone tell me what the hell kinda guitar that is.....it has fretboard markers like a Les Paul custom......is it an old Epiphone?
I dont know for sure but if I guess is some kind of custom build
