If "older" guys can stay healthy (no easy feat) they can be as fast, explosive and strong as they were at 30. What suffers are 2 things: 1. Reaction time (it starts falling off in your twenties, and repeated brain trauma is not helping this in any way) 2. Endurance starts suffering not due to being older in itself but from having to take it easier in training to avoid injuries that a) now happen easier and b)take longer to heal On top of all that, in MMA (or other combat sports) even if you are very good at avoiding punches by the time you're 40 you will have accumulated enough punches to the head that it takes the toll.
The difference is there's a place for these guys to compete and earn money. A wrestler "retired" at 23 in the '70 because there was no professional options. Since MMA started, multiple promotions exist and these people have reason to build a career.

What's crazy to me is to look back and see how guys like Archie Moore and those old time boxers were fighting until they were damn near 50. No fucks were given lol
Look at Archie's second fight with Yvon Durelle, Archie was 45 and Yvon was 27, Archie took a beating in the beginning but kept coming back over and over again until he managed to turn the tides and then beat the shit out of Yvon. Another example of a boxer fighting into old age is Jem Mace, man fought professionally into his 60's and then kept doing exhibitions until his death, last recorded entry in the ring being at age 78
When I was in my twenties I often heard guys my own age say things like "I never work out and eat junkfood all the time but I am not fat so its okey". Now when I am thirty I just don't hear that anymore...
What about a guy like Shogun? Tough ass hell, still showing heart, but no more high-flying. He used to be unpredictable and dynamic, now he's plodding.
Regarding Uriah Faber's weight: Back in his wrestling days, not unlike my own wrestling and boxing days, he probably wrestled at, or close to, his actual 'in shape' weight. These days, for many UFC fighters their actual 'walk around' (in relatively fit condition) can be 20 to 30 lbs over their 'dehydrate the hell out of yourself' weigh-in weight. ~ I mean C'mon, I've heard that Khabib walks around at 185, and fights at 155. And some people, physiologically speaking, are better than others at dehydrating and quickly rehydrating. IMO there should be weigh-ins, or secondary weight check right before the fight. Why not have fighters fight at their actual weight? jus askin
😬 I'm watching this thinking the EXACT same thing. Age is a real thing, man. A 40 yr. Old man CAN'T have the biological DRIVE and "get em" that a 23 year old can. It's basic stuff.
i think it has alot to do how much head trauma you take in your career .tito even tho he has lost a few times he hasnt actually been knocked out that much.
It all depends how long you've been doing it, how your body has held up, how you've looked after yourself, any injuries that have held up or not, so many things that the number of years isn't quite at the top of the list, it's all down to the individual.
@Ocasio-Cortez4prez2022 Yeah and when you think about it too it's not even that old. Chael says it best here about how athletes are getting older and Alan Jouban also said it recently on a UFC Now episode, I mean the average roster is early to mid 30's and all our title holders are in their 30's except Max, is Stipe around 37? It's just us that make it out to be and put that on it which is proven time and time again like with your example there once again showcasing this. I know MMA is different to wrestling in regards to wrestling being a scripted entertainment show but look at loads of them too, Ric Flair, Undertaker, Hogan, DDP, I could list literally hundreds but majority of them are in their 40's at least and people like The Miz and Dolph Ziggler now are about 40 and they're in their prime, my point is fake or not it's a physically demanding thing that requires this and they do get bashed about and put their bodies through hell performing almost every day throughout the year as well as of course training too so you're absolutely right. It's individual and how the person has looked after themselves, some athletes are done in their mid to late 20's when not taking care of themselves yet others are going way beyond that so it's a huge misconception that probably needs to change.
Did it again. Didn't read the thumbnail. Saw chael, clicked video, hit like, and scrolled to the comments. Im about 12 seconds into the video with this comment and I have a broken finger.
I know you hate Tito....but for his age, and yals brutal mma lifestyle....to be in that good of shape and to still be at that level in training..is pretty impressive.
The reason athletes are able to go well beyond what people perceive them to be able to go in sports. is training and nutrition nowadays is so much more advanced than it was even 20 years ago. I mean it's really insane when you think about it.I mean looking football athletes are training better and eating better than athletes did in the 90s and in the 80s and before that. And they're able to go longer.also we have a lot more safety protocols to protect players or fighters so they can have longer careers. I'll say this is 100% honesty most fighters and athletes weather its football, basketball, boxing,MMA whatever most of them don't retire because they have to they retire because they can.it's a choice they choose to retire because normally they have so much money that they don't have to beat their bodies up any longer. I mean just look at the world strong man you got Mark Felix at like 54 years of age competing against dudes half his age and he still Killin It.
P.s....for everyone at least 30 and up...does it freak you put when you hear someone say "this was a long time ago..like 2001 or 2004".. I'm I the only one that thinks what the fuck happened? How is 2000 a long time ago?! What the fuck happened?!

I hate the fact that I'm getting older.
sorry
How old are you?
T, R, T. It’s dynamite.
Only one other alternative.
Well if it makes you feel better millions are going to die from economic fall out over the next three years.
I started boxing at 33. Now at 38 I will enter my first amateur kickboxing match in about 2 months.
I am 26, an athlete, and i am already severely more susceptible to injury and pain than when i was 18. At 40, i can only imagine how painful the workout i do today will be.
Maybe your falling apart dog
Id start taking a shit load of cbd if i was you and eating a lot of peinapple.
Obviously Uriah still functions at a very high-level but inevitably young hungry opponents are going to rise to the top. Good job CS.
This is the kind of video we watch Chael for
Great message Chael - thank you
Yoel Romero has entered the chat...
'Athletes have gotten older and older with time' - Chael P
And yet somehow the rest of us knew da fly what he was saying 🤣
Lmao! I paused the video to see if I was too late. I am.
Klitschko is even coming back for a 3 fight deal
I got myself a shirt for Christmas! Thanks Chael!
Damn, I'm inspired, thanks Chael.
“I was doing what I was doing.”
🤣🤣🤣
Chael ... LIFE IS NOT A RACE ... IT'S A MARATHON. .. good podcast
Props to Uriah! Keep it up uncle Chael!
What about a guy like Shogun? Tough ass hell, still showing heart, but no more high-flying. He used to be unpredictable and dynamic, now he's plodding.
Believe that Sukoraba aka the Gracie killer is still active at 50 fighting at Rizin
I kept expecting this to turn into an ad for Roman...
Why not have fighters fight at their actual weight? jus askin
Looks like Uriah passed his prime before Saturday,
He's really been past it for 10 years.
😬 I'm watching this thinking the EXACT same thing. Age is a real thing, man. A 40 yr. Old man CAN'T have the biological DRIVE and "get em" that a 23 year old can. It's basic stuff.
He got paid though. $300 k or more to lose.
45 is the new 30 just ask Kelly Slater, Randy Couture, Yoel Romero......legends
i think it has alot to do how much head trauma you take in your career .tito even tho he has lost a few times he hasnt actually been knocked out that much.
Kim Collins broke his PB at 100m with 40 year, 9:92. How crazy is that ?
I would say drugs but they're all on peds so it doesn't matter. That's impressive though.
What happened to the outro music?
Don’t forget dan hendo was fighting over 40 years for a long time dude fought hard level fighters
It all depends how long you've been doing it, how your body has held up, how you've looked after yourself, any injuries that have held up or not, so many things that the number of years isn't quite at the top of the list, it's all down to the individual.
One factor....if there are no major illnesses... keep in shape, keep training
@Ocasio-Cortez4prez2022 you nailed it! 😊
@@tantamount4341 yep, 100% 😊
@I offer u this yep, all you guys smashed it 😊
@Ocasio-Cortez4prez2022 Yeah and when you think about it too it's not even that old.
So fighters chins lose metal focus and desire?
Insane how every year since 2005 there’s only been like 1-2 guys who are capable of beating Urijah.
Do you think kahbib and Tony are as evenly matched as usman vs. Colby ?
Chael doesn’t have an ego or pride......ego and pride have Chael
Bernard Hopkins boxed and was world champion in his 40s
I just watched this Urijah interview today, I had a feeling this was about him 😅😅
Is Werdum coming back after his 2 yr suspension over in May Chael??
Did it again. Didn't read the thumbnail. Saw chael, clicked video, hit like, and scrolled to the comments. Im about 12 seconds into the video with this comment and I have a broken finger.
12 haters, must be Tito and Anderson's entourage
Southern Folk: "Let me git some of that, them there Urrjeah stock that Uncle Kale was menchunin"
Tell BJ Penn that his extended career is commendable.
BJ wouldn't put in the work, even in his prime. :D
I know you hate Tito....but for his age, and yals brutal mma lifestyle....to be in that good of shape and to still be at that level in training..is pretty impressive.
What about fighting at 50 ?
Bernard Hopkins was competing on the top level at age 52
At 50? Look at benard hopkins
@@anthonywhitlock9168 right. The Executioner's a phenom for sure! 🏆🏆🏆
Andy ruiz is the best example of this
Why cant content be this easy to find on the ESPN app... that app just drags, so disappointing
Wrestling is a sport you retire early… you body and mind can only take so much
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the the fight in the dog - Roy Jones Jr.
Wait are you giving a shout out to tito here uncle chael
He just turned 40 in June. He’s not 41
This video is only a few weeks old but it hasnt aged as well as Uriah Faber
P.s....for everyone at least 30 and up...does it freak you put when you hear someone say "this was a long time ago..like 2001 or 2004".. I'm I the only one that thinks what the fuck happened? How is 2000 a long time ago?! What the fuck happened?!
Agreed. That's how you know life is a short trip.
There are some Impressive fights of age !
How does this man have so many stories...
My joints hurt age 48☹️
“Athletes have gotten old with time” 😂🤪
someone tell me why I just now heard chaels "The only person that ever made money from using their mouth was titos ex wife".
Jordan Willis watch the interview with Tito on vlad tv says Jenna spent 8 mil in four years on cocanie and OxyContin
He’s not that bad of a guy actually he just crossed the bad guy and got burnt to a crisp lol
He has custody off his kids she not seen them in 6 years
Basically Jenna makes Tito look like a saint sum how
Did you also watch Tito choke the fuck out of Chael?
